Furthermore it's called punching down. That's why he wouldn't accept the fight. It's a very common concept amongst professionals as there is no glory to be gained in beating the untrained. Punching down is always a lose lose for a professional. In the extreme off chance he loses to some sucker punching scrub then he gets totally embarrassed for what would pretty much be an inexcusable loss. If he wins he gains no prestige at all in his sport because it was the obvious conclusion and then other professionals and the media will belittle you for accepting a fight with someone who had no hope, pretty much getting treated like he is a bully. If I challenge Floyd Mayweather to a fight and he declines it's not because he is a pussy. It's because my unprofessional ass stepping into the ring with someone of that level would be an insult to the sport.

I admit I wasn’t an avid follower of Michael Bisping and his UFC career. But I find stories of his personal struggles truly inspiring. To top it off, he handled this situation like a champion that he is. If there was ever a charity match between the two, it should be headlined as Champ vs Chump.
