    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 3 lety

      Same steps for just a controller replacement. It will be much easier since you won't have to cut the hole or rearrange the wires. The CIC is a hardware retrofit so it cannot be downloaded but I highly recommend it on your car since you already have the controller -> czcams.com/video/91ZByqsSLxI/video.html

    Hey BMW DYI
    If I understood u correctly, U have a E60 pre Facelift with the CCC and professional navigation from round about year 2006?
    U were not forced to code the new knob to Ur CCC? Means, just changing the cable pins and rest is just mechanical plug&play??
    I'm going crazy cuz I have the e61 535d preface 2006 with the CCC professional navi and the silver huge knob with the menu/voice button.
    Didn't found any guide, just Urs.

    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 2 lety

      Mine is a 2008 LCI E60 and I upgraded it to CIC. The controller is plug and play on the LCI cars, you just need to rearrange the pins like I show you. You are better off selling your car and finding a 2010 E60 with CIC. That way you will have the other LCI upgrades.

    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 2 lety

      No, the controller upgrade is optional, gives you the shortcuts, and makes your E60 look nicer and newer but that’s it. For the newer IDrive (CIC) you need the newer headunit, newer screen, some cables and glovebox USB port, and some coding. You can get the parts on your own from ebay and ecstuning and code it yourself with a Windows laptop with the right software (its free) and the K+DCAN cable that goes in the OBD2 port. I’m coming out with a video on how to do this on a 2008 3 series so stay tuned since the process is very similar and will save you some money.

      If you have a pre-LCI car then I wouldn’t bother, but if the car is a 2008 model then the iDrive knob is the only thing keeping it from looking like a 2010 model. I used to think like you but the new controller looks so much better, especially at night, and the shortcuts really come in handy

    Would you recommend adjusting the opening on the trim to fit the new controller as it is, as you already mentioned, difficult to find this exact trim from a newer model car.

    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 4 lety +1

      No, I don't recommend that, if you skip to 6:00 I explain why. The reason is because it will not look OEM and you have to use the trim with the wider border from the 6 series in order to cover up your cut. Also, the material of the trim feels like metal and will be much harder to cut than the centre console material so the Dremel I used will not work on it. Just be patient and keep checking on eBay. I was checking for 1 year until i finally found it.

    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 4 lety +2

      Skip to 9:04 and 30:05, you take wires 1,2,4 & 5 from the knob connector and put them in the 4 slots on the menu button connector and then put the menu button connector in the new controller, use a metal pick tool to release the wires from the connectors like I show you at 30:05, put electrical tape around all the other wires as they are not needed anymore

    • @bmwdiy
      @bmwdiy  Před 4 lety

      Only the one I show you at 6:08 but I would advise against it since the trim piece is made of really hard metal and it might be too hard to create a fine enough cut with the Dremel so the bracket covers it, good luck though!
