Freakin Tarn .... Milne and Roberts created , i feel , Thee most impactful IDW villain in that universe .His introduction with the DJD . How he conducted himself . Everything . Almost dethrones Shockwave as my personal favourite character. Whenever he appeared he had monumental presence. I wish i had a place to put this figure and the available funds to possess it .Thanks for uploading this sir.
I felt relieved when I got to the end and Bobby didn't break anything. Except for the fingers falling out of course lol. Articulated fingers are great, btw, they just have to be done properly and ballpegs at the base is not it. Ham-hands aside, articulated fingers are better than swap-out when the figure is large enough to properly accommodate them.
Stunning simply stunning. I’m a sucka for things that have LED light up or statues/figures that have a look of levitating. I wonder if Takara seeing Flame Toys price point is the reason their slapping that ridiculous $450 on MP44. Duuuuumb.
Amazing sculpt on these Flame Toys figures..... But I kind of want my Transformer figures to, well, transform. Totally get it for people who have viewing collections. There is nothing even close to these figures for that type of sensibility. It allows them to focus on making a great robot action figure instead of sacrifices made for transformation. Which is cool and all if you have a collection to look at.

The swap out vs articulated hands debate. I love both but I’d rather have swap out hands than poorly executed articulated hands. Even in master grade gunpla I tend to prefer swap out hands because they hold accessories better and don’t break and are easier to use. However from what I’ve seen perfect grade gunpla hands are basically the best articulated hands out there so maybe flame toys just needs to look at those.
You think Metal Club MuscleBear would be comparable in quality to flame toys? The price is certainly attractive! At least for me, since flame toys is too expensive for me.

So I got mine (here in Scotland) three days before Christmas, but the day it arrived I had a massive blow-out with my best pal, as a result of which I couldnt even look at opening the box that day. My friend phoned the next morning and we mended fences so when I opened the box it was just *such* a beautiful moment and yet utterly tragic as this thing blows everything else out of the water in my collection. The purple paint is possibly the most beautiful painted finish I've ever seen on a Transformer. I'm already putting a bit away each month to get Star Saber. And hoping for a Drift reissue. And hoping they do either a Springer or a MTMTE Megatron... or Whirl.... or Cyclonus... or Ratchet..or Magnus... etc etc etc
I get why you like Flame Toys and they seem very good action figures. The engineering is good but not groundbreaking, every good model kit company is doing that for ages (Bandai Perfect Grade does the knee thing even better), I'm not saying this aren't very good high end action figures (even though without having one in hand I will have to take your word for it) but they seem a bit to expensive. They have more details, better sculpt and better paint then the MP TF but they can't transform so that's to be expected, I think that all things considered they are on par with some 3 party and Takara MP TF and the price point is way to high. I'm 41, I've been collecting action figures since I'm 5, the first time I saw well executed fully articulated hands I went crazy because I was dreaming with those for years, they just need to be well executed and they don't work on every scale (Bandai on the Perfect Grade Model Kits does them perfectly). That was an honest review i think. The hands are cool, but annoying. The foot piece isn t a problem on mine. The stand annoys me. But i was amazed by how amazed i could still be after getting drift. Imo, tarn actually adds to drift's value. drift didn t really fit in my Masterpiece transformers/Hot toys collection, to the point of me almost selling him even though he s great. But together! The shared quality/finish and also the contrast they have is amazing: drift seems like a nimble sophisticated martial artist and tarn is such an impressive savage beast!! 😁. I would have liked lightup features in both the cannons, seems fairly easy and an obvious thing to do. Really impressive as a pair. I think you'd be blown away by the added value in a paired display aswell Stylewise to me, tarn combines best with drift as compared to the other 3 pieces on their way. *hinthint* 😉.
Absolutely stunning piece, tacked a bow Flame Toys, great review Mr Skullface. I agree that the finger articulation and design of said figures is my only issue, cutting a notch in the ball sockets would make a huge difference at minimal effort and cost of manufacture. Swappable hands would as you say also solved the problem and most likely been the better solution, although the price point would be greater. If I was going to be critical, I would wonder if more mechanical design could have gone into the elbow and knee joints to make it really appear robotic just to really finish it off but that is a minor subjective point as again it would impact the price point. Overall I’m very impressed, Tarn is my favourite IDW character and I would love to own this figure at some point.

I think they should stick with a wide array of interchangeable hands. I haven't had my fingers pop off yet but it's bound to happen. My ankles are also super tight, I feel like I have to apply the right application of force or I'll snap something. One of my favorite things about him are the eyes. They're not just red, flat lenses. They have little "pupils" sculpted into them, and no one will ever make a better Tarn product.
Glad you like it. He is the centerpiece of my collection. I Love the character and will buy any figures of him. I didn't get Drift... I really think instead of a shattered glass drift they should have done Deadlock with that mold because they would have gotten more of my money. I will still hold out for a Deadlock. But I'm not a Drift fan. I am interested to know if they scale. If drift is the same size I would be less impressed. I have my Tarn holding the Matrix from MP01 for shits and giggles.
At TFCon they had this dude out, and they were like "Pick it up! Check out this! Check out that!". It was soooooo good. If I ever get a Flame Toys product, it'll be Tarn.

I prefer Fans Toys most commonly used hands to all others. I don't mind if we get swap out hands if they can stay on in both modes. I'm not a partsforming hater but I dislike when major parts don't attach in a mode. I stopped at Zeta Bruticus because of that. I think it goes back to me hating how the fists didn't stay on as a kid on G1 seekers. I lost 1 & that landing gear. It's still with me today.
I had the choice between picking this guy up or Lewis’s resources Optimus, in the end the sheer size was too tempting and I order the big boy. Might order tarn at tax time if he is still floating around.

Tighten up the pegs on the fingers and ankle piece with some clear nail polish. Let it dry really well before installing. :) I've been waiting to see your review of this guy ever since my wife had to pick my jaw off the floor after playing with him at TFCon. He's so ridiculously good.
I have FT Drift & HT Optimus. I like both but I wish the base was painted on Drift. Tarn looks to have the same base. It would of really brought it home had they painted it & gave it a 3D name plate w/ faction symbol. Also feel like the base should store the extras underneath as it's hollow.

I also would like it if companies who make premium collectibles with light up or electronic features would make them all with a wireless remote included or maybe an app with Bluetooth or something to turn the effects on/off. My Hot Toys IronMan is beautiful, but there’s no way I’m going to open my glass display, turn him around and flip on the 3-4 separate switches for his hands/eyes/chest lights. It’s insane to think that some people may do that everyday?
Couple of questions- On the TFW boards people are complaining that the perfect tolerances (especially in the legs) start to loosen up fairly significantly. Do you have any sense that this will happen? Do you think it should be handled as a poseable statue instead of an action figure?
@@kaseyflemingart Yeah, that's what I thought. There are some folks who've mentioned their drift and tarn figures getting loose. I don't mess with my stuff too often, so I've not had that sort of problem with... anything really. Still, I do think having ratcheted joints in something like this would be nice.
I have the same gripe about individually articulated fingers, but I prefer them to typewriting hands or permanently closed fists. Give me a straight index finger to point with any day.
Haven’t read any of the comics this guy or Drift is from, so I don’t have anything invested toward the interest or desire of this character. But if this company starts cranking out G1 accurate (not the stylized versions they’ve shown) figures like this, I would probably begin to swap out my MP collection for them. Or at least have a separate shelf for these.
The hands are my only real criticism of this figure. I’m not a fan of individually articulated fingers and would’ve definitely preferred swap out hands.
All this detailed articulation and moving parts is just expected in real grade gunpla and seeing people get wowed by it here is always interesting to me. Skull face you should really check out a nice Gundam figure like a metal build or a perfect grade.
I said the exact same thing, on top of that I believe metal build or perfect grade does it better and for a way better price point. I'm not saying this don't look good but... to much money and excitement when we have groundbreaking transformers that can transform, made with excellent materials and that look very good.

The fingers are much easier to maneuver if you remove the hand first. They just peg into the wrist same as Drift

I like articulated fingers but hate balljoints for each. Gives me 1/60 or 1/100 gundam nightmares. They just need to do hinges for fingers instead.

I haven't messed with mine too much, but have a hard time seeing the joints just give out less than a month after the figure is on the market.
