Man I just love watching these what if videos stoned. I mean I feel like he made a video about a what if that apparently wasn't even a possibility at all but I didn't know black holes had stuff orbiting it just like the sun. Can you freaking believe that. Like space is so unknown. And if you think about it, look how little we progressed before like a few hundred years ago. I just think people back then were lazy maybe? Or just not very smart. I mean I like to think maybe Jesus is real sometimes but then I think if that was true, we would have real hoverboards by now. Like I'm sorry, but they barely have good scooters. And driverless cars. That shit has been expected. But what if aliens came and gave us all this smart knowledge instead of Jesus. And what people really think is the Bible, is a story of a bunch of people following around an alien. Like abraham probably an alien told him you should show me what you're really willing to do for the continuance of your life and the rest of humanity. I mean what's more believable, that there's some other more advanced life forms or that there's an almighty being behind the creation of the whole universe like its a fucking puppet factory and studio all in one. What would it look like to him? Probably a big black ball right? Fucking dumb. Now I can get behind some aliens being like hey check out this cool thing that makes water into wine but the whole time they did it like a magic trick so they didn't know how just to make them feel more powerful. What if Mark Zuckerberg was an alien really trying to collect as much information on us to send back home. I wonder if that would be good or bad for us as a human race

What if we, the entire observable space, are inside a black hole so massive that our size is negligible
we are negligible regrardless of the large scale structure of reality. ;)
As far ad we can tell we cab move freely in any direction which would not be possible inside the event horizon. So our observations are incompatible with our us being inside based on our current understanding.
@@Wtfukker we are significant
there is a region, for some black holes, which is beyond the event horizon but not falling into the singularity. this region scales with the mass of the black hole in a way that makes your scenario possible
yeah there is a theory about it actually, in a blackhole massive enough, spahgettification may not occur as violently and therefore it's safe

Hi Thoughty! How about doing a video on the FAILED STAR Jupiter and what would happen if it suddenly decided to ignite?
Now that would be interesting.
Jupiter is *not* a failed star. Calling Jupiter a failed star is like calling an rc car a failed Humvee. Brown dwarfs are failed stars and the *smallest* ones are 14 times the mass of Jupiter. Jupiter has nowhere near the amount mass required to start fusing.
@@jamx02 Well that's one opinion. The scientific community is divided on the subject with many considering all gas giants as 'failed stars' or 'stars in waiting'. While I'm not doubting the points you make, it would be an interesting 'what if' video either way IMHO, just like this one.

100 trillion years? Well that gives me just enough time to take a hot bath. Love your research.
Hmmm. This brings a valid question to the table. As we all know, there is a super massive black hole at the center of the the galaxy...being a spiral galaxy...who's to say we are not caught within the accretion disc of said black hole as well the possibility of experiencing time dialation. Would we even truly know if we were?
The bigger question is: Would or should we even care? These are things no mortal being will ever "solve" in its life time. And looking at our species, before we get to the bottom of this or before this knowledge becomes relevant we'll have either died out or bombed ourselves back into the stone age repeatedly.
uhm...because we orbit around the sun. And we don't get shred by plasma and a radioactive h-bomb mixer. And we are "some" light years away from the center.
And i guess you mix up gravity and accretion disc..?
We aren't orbiting the SMBH in the middle of the milky way, only stars within 27 lightyears are gravitationally bound to it. I've said this before, but if you ever hear someone talking about how galaxies orbit around black holes, please personally slap them in the face for me because this is very false. Sgr A* (smbh) could disappear right now and it would make no difference in the milky way.
@@Diree Why shouldn't we care? It's searching for answers that we believed unanswerable that has brought us where we are. We will likely never have the answer to many questions, but we also could find it, or our children, or perhaps 100 generations down the line. If we never question it however, there is no chance of finding an answer. No reason to not question, search for an answer, but be prepared to not find the answer.
I enjoy your snarky humor in commentary involving the universe, you should do more videos like this.

Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."

The gravity would be essentially the same.Gravity works the same with black holes as it does with everything else, the planets will continue the orbit the black hole as normally, except without the sun we'll still all die.
I bloved all the bluns! It’s like an annoying guy was drunk and naming everything.

Merry Christmas Thoughty2 🎄
If Earth was in the Goldilocks zone of the accretion disc, would it still have day or night? Considering that we would be surrounded by high speed contents of the disc that is constantly producing friction, so heat and light. And if we don’t have day or night anymore, should we still have time zones?
Not as day and night as we know them in my opinion.
Depending on the light emitted by the accretion zone material and if the planet was spinning on its own axis, one could have different lighting conditions, as in maybe the inner part of the accretion disk would be spinning faster and thus emitting more light than the outer part so if the planet was spinning, you're get more light when facing the brighter side obviously.
So no, you wouldn't have days and nights as I understand it.
Great video, funny as always but a planet would not become a brown dwarf if it's mass became too large. Unless the planet you were referring to was a gas giant comprised of hydrogen and helium. If the planet was solid like Earth, Venus, Mars etc - it would never become a brown dwarf due to a lack of essential light elements required for sustainable fusion, it would never achieve 'ignition.'
Yeahh i was thinking that too

Awesome video completely mind blowing. Aaron must have an IQ of 200+. I was thinking the observable universe is expanding faster than the speed of light so it's impossible to see what is beyond that horizon. Could there be multiple universes occurring similar to ours beyond this horizon? Is impossible to imagine and see but it's awesome we could see as much as we can. Merry Christmas and god bless everyone. Maybe if possible in near future Aaron could look into and share his ideas on god and maybe cosmic destiny or destiny of humanity or something. as Gino D' would say...

What if Uranus was a black hole?….
Considering the hypothesis that the planets as they a drawn into the black hole are literally torn apart atom by atom as they approach the event horizon, I very much doubt the possibility of them existing as anything that closely resembles what we know as a planet once on the other side of the event horizon... I'd love to know your thoughts on this everyone.
well being ripped apart by gravity doesn't necessarily happen at the event horizon. for a supermassive blackhole it happens quite a ways in beyond the event horizon. for stellar mass blackholes it happens even before you reach the event horizon.
true, but at some point we will come to a point where living around a black hole is the only way our species will be able to survive by harvesting the energy of the blackhole. Also there are safe distances where you could orbit quite nicely around blackholes without running too much into risks. My question is however, if all the blackholes die through hawking radiation or everything is turns into iron 56 and then also fades through hawking radiation, there will be NOTHING in the universe anymore. All matter would be gone, what is our species then gonna do by then? Except for quantum fluctuation there won't be anything. Also sidenote, there's a very good chance the big bang happened due to quantum fluctuation, if this stuff intrests you, there is an amazing youtube channel that coverse quantum mechanics: czcams.com/video/Akw1FQcYe5U/video.html
@@energeticstunts993 well, turns out we detect minute amounts of protons popping into existence "spontaneously" from virtual particles at a certain rate per cubic lightyear in intergalactic voids.
given that proton decay has been shown not to follow the standard model -- I'd argue that with such a sweaty empty space the full heat death scenario is actually off the table
as per iron 56 and hawking radiation great thought though. i can only speculate what fusion may be like near the singularity
Well that doesn’t mean the matter doesn’t still exist on an “other side” for it to ball back up into planetoids hypothetically, life existing on them is a whole other can of worms, but I feel that’s far more unlikely
Thank you all so much for your perspective on my comment. Brilliant to read x
Happy late new year Arran!Wish the best for you and your channel mate.
Great video food for thought over the holidays lol Merry Christmas Thoughty 2
Even if a planet (blanet) were able to find the right orbit around a black hole, with just the right size, just the right amount of energy, to keep water liquid, it would still have one major problem that you neglected to visit. Radiation. If you look at a black hole through a radio telescope, there are extreme amounts of radiation around the black hole.
Since carbon based life forms that rely on DNA for not only life, but also for reproduction, it would be terminal, before it even got started.
If life were to arise in such a place, it would have to be a completely different form of life.
Wouldn't the beings bodys like be made for that radiation
God forbid we orbit a big ball of radioactive plasma instead.
"one major problem"
Just one?????
Ok, so mutations would occur much more frequent if time passed like here, but with time dialation it might occur about the same rate as here.
Could time relativity make objects older than the Big Bang?
Pass the blunt
I would say no but also yes, time is percetion. And if youre perception is that on millers world things can be omder than the big bang
@@marshallstan8979 .....jeah...because if something that created another thing didn't happen the created thing will be older....that makes so much sense ._. maybe stay with making silly 1 minute dance "moves"
No , never
Whatever time dialation and perception of time, earth orbit compared to the age of the universe has the same ratio I think.
brilliant as always Thoughty2
I feel like the phrase "nothing can escape its gravitational pull...not even light" is such a throw-away comment that I think most people don't fully grasp just how INSANE that actually is. Allow me to mansplain it for y'all 😂:
Nearly everything in our universe has mass, i.e. weight. Objects with mass can be manipulated by gravitational forces, and that's how (with sufficient gravity) we can go from carbon atoms to dust particles to rocks to planets, etcetera. Whether it's something as massive as a star or as miniscule as a quark, everything has mass to it...except for photons. Why that statement "...not even light can escape it" is so incredible is that black holes have SO much mass concentrated into such a small radius, and their gravitational pull is SO unfathomably strong that they can pull in and manipulate something that is literally weightless. To put it another way, try to think of a way to bend empty space -- something that you can't see, weigh, or detect. Yeah...but black holes CAN do that. 🤯
Hopefully I've helped a couple people lose some sleep over this thought. 😂
I've flown through the sun in an astral projection and found it is a black hole seen from the inside.
On the other side is a super Earth.
Of course "imagination" lol

Man your videos are always amazing. Thank you 🙏
This is the sorta thing that will keep me up at night the sheer size of space blows my mind to the point I can’t comprehend it 🤯
It occurs to me that a star could form in the accretion disk and orbit a black hole, and then be orbited by its own planet. Since there could be a lot of life supporting planets that are a lot closer than we are to other stars, that's where an interplanetary super-civilization could form.
The "heat death of the universe" theory hinges on proton decay following the standard model -- which it absolutely defies in spectacular fashion
