  • Riddle of the Skies combines tantalisingly ambiguous footage
with the eyewitness accounts of distinguished scientists and
astronauts, all braving the stigma of confessing belief in life
elsewhere. Boston University professor and former NASA scientist
FAROUK EL BAZ describes unexplained events on the moon observed
by one Apollo astronaut. In another bizarre incident, astronauts
witnessed flashes of light outside their shuttle. Their tense
radio conversation reveals nervous uncertainty - "Who'd be
taking pictures?" asks one. In Puerto Rico, astronomer SETH
SHOSTAK scours deep space using the world's largest radio
telescope. As part of the NASA initiated programme SETI (Search
for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) Shostak and his team may be
our best chance of making contact. "The vastness of the cosmos,"
he says "is a lot of real estate and this isn't the only galaxy
where anything interesting is happening." And there are over 50
billion other galaxies. Astronaut STORY MUSGRAVE spent 30years
with NASA and has been on six missions. Though he is adamant
that he has never found any proof, he's open to the idea of
advanced civilisations out there. "I believe that they are so
advanced that they are even doing interstellar travel."
Colonel ANDRE AMOND of the Belgian army recounts the
extraordinary events of 1990 when hundreds of separate UFO
sightings were recorded. He and his wife witnessed a UFO
hovering over his car one night. "There were three triangular
yellow lights and a pulsing central light," says Amond, "The
object flew away very fast." Recorded on film and tracked on
radar, these unidentified flying objects even evaded Air Force
jet fighters. The conclusions made then were that these were not
meteorological phenomenon or experimental aircraft. In this case
at least, extra-terrestrial activity cannot be entirely excluded.
Since rumours of alien spacecraft emerged from Roswell, New
Mexico in 1947, UFOs have increasingly been the subject matter
of grainy, hand-held, out-of-focus 'proof'. The proliferation of
video cameras has multiplied the often absurd evidence. Riddle
of the Skies however presents footage of a far more convincing
nature. The accounts of Soviet cosmonauts and NASA astronauts
describing strange objects seen in space are accompanied by
mission footage, showing some extraordinary and inexplicable
    formations around the Earth.
Next week's programme The Evidence on Earth features pilots, air
traffic controller and high ranking military officers talking
openly about their experiences with UFOs.

I remember watching first episode on channel 4. On February 1999, recorded all 3 parts on good old VHS, watched them for many years.
