    Lorimar Television was an American production company that was later a subsidiary of Warner Bros., active from 1969 until 1993. It was founded by Irwin Molasky, Merv Adelson, and Lee Rich. The company's name was a portmanteau of Adelson's then-wife, Lori, and McClellan-Palomar Airport in San Diego. The firm "expanded from television and movies into advertising" in the 1980s. Their headquarters were located in Culver City, California in the United States.
    My next logo history will be on Filmways, and it will be uploaded/premiered on Christmas Day (if I finish it before then).

    What are your favorite logos from Lorimar?

    • @TR3XProductions1stChannel
      @TR3XProductions1stChannel Před 2 lety +8

      The first logo from Lorimar Television (1971-78), the second logo from Karl Lorimar Home Video (1985-89) and the second logo from Lorimar Telepictures (1986-89).

    • @JontyMaster
      @JontyMaster  Před 2 lety +5

      Mine would be the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from Lorimar Television, the 2nd from Lorimar Home Video, the ident from Lorimar Sports Network, the 2nd logo from Lorimar-Telepictures, and the Spanish bootleg logo due to its music.

      @ManF3 Před 2 lety +2

      Mine would definitely be the Lorimar Telepictures logo from 1986, due to the impressive cel animation. I also didn't see that Lorimar Sports Network ident before, and the Lorimar Home Video (Spanish bootleg) logo is very cheesy, just like some of the other home video logos from the 1980s.

  • @EnriqueMcQuade
    @EnriqueMcQuade Před 2 lety +23

    The reason the 1986 Lorimar-Telepictures logo was not computer animated is because of the low framerates of the animation and drawing style, which is actually cel animation. Funfact: Lorimar-telepictures actually owned television stations like for example, they owned a TV station in the past in Puerto Rico but the station is currently a Univision affiliate.

    I believe both “Full House” and “Family Matters” were made back in the day by Miller-Boyett in association with Lorimar Television, which I believe might’ve been called Lorimar Telepictures before that rebrand, at least for “Full House”, anyway.

    The last series to premiere under the Lorimar Television name was Time Trax, as part of the Prime Time Entertainment Network programming block. Several shows slated to be Lorimar productions, such as Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Living Single, It Had to Be You, Café Americain, The Trouble with Larry and Family Album ended up being produced by Warner Bros.

      As a sidenote: they would've at least lasted on the remaining productions for full house and family matters until their series finales. Even the latter one.

    Great video Jonty! I came into the premiere in time after I saw it in recommended, and I'm surprised to see Lorimar had a sports network in the 1980s. I also didn't know that the second logo from Lorimar Telepictures used the jingle from the first logo of Lorimar Television often, which is my favourite logo from Lorimar. Looking forward to your logo history on Filmways, since my T of Wonder logo symbol uses elements from the Filmways logo symbol! Early Merry Christmas! :-)

    • @JontyMaster
      @JontyMaster  Před 2 lety +6

      Thank you, Fabian! It is quite surprising to see that Lorimar had a sports network! It was an ad hoc television network providing syndicated college football and basketball. It's also interesting to hear the 1978 Lorimar TV logo music on the 2nd Lorimar-Telepictures logo. Plastering at it's finest. Stay tuned for Filmways Logo History! Early Merry Christmas to you too!

    Out of all of the Lorimar logos shown in this compilation, there is one that you have never of before. It was Lorimar Records. That’s right! Lorimar had a record label. I did checked on Discogs that the soundtrack to the forgotten 1979 basketball film “The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh”, and the label says “Lorimar Records” on there. The label lasted from 1979 until the label folded in 1988 after the “Action Jackson” soundtrack when Lorimar folded into WB, the Lorimar Records label shut down. It was a subsidiary of CBS Records. If you look at the label, you see a Lorimar logo appeared on a label with the “Rainbow Border” around it, and it looks exactly the same as the 1978-86 Lorimar like the one seen here.

    The two variations of the Lorimar company that I remember was the one in the late 80s when the view was zooming through a sky full of stars and then the words Lorimar telepictures burst into view in a shower of sparks and light glinting off the words behind it. The second variation is the screen going white and then the word Lorimar appears in black letters and below in a long red box The word television appears in white letters. I’ve never seen the Lorimar television logo before those two variations that I had described.

    So the 1988 Lorimar line of doom was different from the 1978 line of doom....the O doesnt continue to form the first R, the line in the A is added, and the R at end's tail doesn't stick out like the 78 version.
    But in the 89-93 in-credit version just added the line in the A, reusing the 78 LOD and adding 88 "television" script underneath.
    The 88 logo was used on VHS sleeves and a "print" logo when they showed the credits on Lorimar movie promos of thaf era (Action Jackson).
