  • Irises are popular perennials for the Western Sycamore Palette, featuring strap-like leaves and growing 12-18 inches tall. It spreads by rhizomes to form clumps 1-2 feet wide. Its blue-purple flowers bloom in early spring and can reach 4 inches across, with many cultivars available seasonally.
Native to moist, shaded slopes from Oregon to Southern California, Irises are well adapted to Inland Empire gardens, thriving in well-drained soils with moderate summer watering. Ideal for borders, around rocks, and in light sun or shade, they tolerate some summer dryness but prefer moderate moisture. Notable cultivars include 'Canyon Snow' (white flowers with yellow markings) and 'Pacific Coast Hybrid' (varied flower colors).
