    Wife and I installed this past month: koni shocks, sound dampening, sound blocking foam padding, shifter rebuild, steering wheel cover, speaker wires to the jbl amp, extra drink holder, found the AC button under the seat, stapled a torn part of the soft top, removed a rattling spoon from the top storage area, replaced the window bushings, cleaned and greased the window rails, fixed the hood rattle at idle, and replaced the hood rod holder. Corona has kept us busy, yikes!

    When I had my ‘92 Miata, I got so many “chick car” jokes from the guys at work. A friend that carpooled with me defended me saying the car rode rough, was loud, even in stock form. It was also hard to get in and out of, and couldn’t carry hardly anything. The AC just worked ok. With all that, what chick would want that? I now have a ‘94 but with a few creature comforts like power windows, power steering, power mirrors and cruise control. It’s got leather seats but they’re trashed. Looking for replacements.

    Hi, nice video, I own a Miata (1990, 148.00 Km) and use it as a holiday and leisure car. It is fun to drive and also the lack of options makes me feel happy.
    My wife and I use to go on holiday with it for two weeks in France or Germany (we live in the Netherlands) and the trunk is large enough to take clothes for 2 weeks for the both of us.
    An advantage is that my wife cannot shop during the holiday, no space for extra cloths 😊
    I changed the radio indeed for one with bluetooth and USB, futher the Miata is original and we have a lot of fun with it.

  • @jimmyjet07
    @jimmyjet07 Před 3 lety +9

    Pretty good advice here, but I'll add my 2¢.
    1. Wheel size and tire choice can affect noise and ride comfort. IMO, 15" wheels are best for their light weight while still offering some give in the sidewalls to absorb bumps. Larger wheels with lower profile tires may corner better, but larger wheels are typically heavier which adds unsprung weight. Simply put, the car is more responsive with lighter wheels.
    2. Some strategically placed dynamat does wonders for interior noise reduction. Firewall, door skin, behind the door panel, rear deck are very helpful.
    3. Be sure all your seals are in place and in good shape. Seal off any little holes in the firewall with mastic tape and check the upper and lower transmission seals. These wear out quickly and let in road noise and engine smells. By the way, if you smell a hint of antifreeze inside the car, it's probably time to replace the heater core hoses. Pull the dashboard when you do as it's a perfect opportunity to make the corrections I just listed and makes the job a hell of a lot easier.
    4. There's an opening in the trunk that leads to the passenger side seat. Stuff some foam or a pillow into this void.

    MIata is for people wanting the British sports car fun and feel without the issues. The list of 5 worst things are actually positives! If you don't like the ride or noise, get a nice soft car and cruise to your heart's content. If you want the rawness and fun factor, this car is for you. Might be a little rough for a commuter car in traffic, but it is perfect for a fun runabout on the weekends.

    Older April issues of Consumer Reports magazine at a library have ratings for tire noise, traction and life. I bought Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season tires for how quiet they are, along with long life, and less age cracks in the sidewalls compared to more expensive Michelins. The April 2020 issue dropped the tire info except a very vague 1 page summary, trying to get you to pay for their online subscription every year.

  • @hoehere_Gewalt
    @hoehere_Gewalt Před rokem +1

    The Issue with the cupholders is honestly just America's cup sizes.
    In Germany, the biggest cups you get from fast food chains like McDonalds are 500ml, they fit in there perfectly.
    Having 2l big cups is NOT the norm by all means.

    I was a long term first gen. MR2 owner & always felt it was a more refined car with better creature comforts than the Miata but we envied the amount of space the Miata's had. I recently wanted to get back to owning another roadster & being 5ft. 9in. tall I was surprised to discover I was looking at the top rail of the windshield when looking out front. I think it was an NB but not 100% sure.

  • @robber_h
    @robber_h Před 3 lety

    I have a couple of 'Miatas' or MX5s as we call them here. Here in Australia we always had electric mirrors and windows standard so that was never an issue for me. I guess the rest of the missing interior comforts and accessories are pretty well unnecessary anyway - and I have put aftermarket bluetooth head units into both of mine anyway. Space isn't an issue for me either as I accept that it's a small car. I find I can fit all I need to into mine unless I am buying something that I wouldn't normally need room for, and for that I borrow someone else's car! :)
    I have all good seals etc and TBH I don't get any nasty oil, fuel or coolant smells. My first MX5 did have a heater core leak like yours and I did get the coolant smell then, but that was a one off. As for ride comfort, I have one car on Tein coilovers with a large front roll bar and low profile tyres on 949 racing wheels. This car when the shock adjustment is turned to soft actually still rides very nicely, although I concur that it can be a little harsh on really big bumps. My other car has some quality lowering springs that are not particularly stiff but is otherwise standard, and rides very nicely.
    So luckily for me, there are no 'worst things' with my MX5s. Except that they cost more here and I can only afford two of them :) Thanks for the great channel.

    Valid points. The MIATA was designed to be a budget sportscar. Look at the early European two seater sportscar and there is a sticking resemblance. Most of what was listed, it made you "PART" of the car. Being able to feel and smell what was going on while driving enables you to push it to the limits of driver and car. Mazda never claimed it would luxury comfortable. I have a 90 NA that I heavily moded and I can honestly say that diving at 100mph and higher, you want to be able to feel what's going on under you. NB fixes all that, at least a little. Bigger trunk and roomier interior. NB has more interior amenities particularly in LS trim. NVH is pretty bad in an NB but it's better than an NA. Now when it comes to the ride, NB won't fix that. Even dead stock neither the NA nor the NB rides very well. So maybe the answer is an NC? Or a set of Ohlins if you are ready to double the value of the car. Bonus: NB only has the world's second worst cup holders.

    Appreciate your opinion but you gotta understand this car was built in 1989 is a lot of cars but they didn’t have things like your comforts that your generation needs now to drive a car now. Your last paragraph was the best thing you said enjoy the car appreciate the age appreciate that doesn’t have all the modern cons that cars have today

    there is a 6 & it's a bad one. due to envy or other road rage factors you may attract unwanted attention. the size doesn't help. if you want to play you're on your own. if your enjoying your ride, being respectful & obeying laws you're in trouble. suggest you slow down (no braking) pull over & hope the problem goes away. good luck.

    As far as carrying capacity "IT IS A SPORTS CAR - NOT A MINIVAN.
    As far as luxuries - IT IS A SPORTS CAR - NOT A TOWNCAR.
    As far as how it smells - the newest Miata NA is 1997 (24 years old) And you are criticizing how it smells after 24 years???
    As far as road noise - You are right on - they are noisy (part of their charm).
    As far as the ride - They ride like a skateboard.
    Throw a picnic basket in the trunk , take it for a trip and enjoy.
    We have a 99 and an 04 and love touring with them. Go Miata!

    Since this Miata is so awful and the sports car experience does not work for you, then get a truck, you will have lots of room and can take along a passenger. If you had known British sports cars you would not complain about your Miata. But I suspect you love the car, you are just trying to make it better, which you can not other then buying a newer one.

    Considering this was made in the '90s. Not a problem at all.
    All these worst things are what I like about the car. It is a pure driver's car. No more, no less.
    When you compensate for practicality, the car becomes less fun.
