Man this guy is so overbearing. He talks over her and she actually raises her eyebrows more than once when he does this. I love this woman, her intelligence and temperament is complete class.
I HATE charlie rose. He asks a question, and then endlessly interrupts. Worst interviewer in human history. I'm so glad he got kicked off the air for harassment.
What a gorgeous lady. Madeline Kahn was not afraid to play comic foils (in the Mel Brooks movies and in "What's Up, Doc") but she actually had a very elegant and intelligent presence. So obvious here. I love learning that she was a modest introvert.

@@unowen-nh9ov I am really grateful to you for your extensive research and write up. My admiration for Madeline deepens after learning much more about her theatrical life. I realize that aside from her appearance I loved her voice. I know I would be able to identify it with my eyes closed.
Somewhat an introvert? No wonder I connected with this lady for many years. Seeing all of her movies and enjoying each and every one. On the last Billy Cosby show, I do like Bill Cosby and all the others. However, I enjoyed this show the most when she was there making me laugh and smile with every line she delivered. I especially remember episode "Loving Madeline" and remember being sad and how my heart was broken.
Charlie Rose was always touted at this amazing interviewer, but he always seemed to me like he was talking over his guests. It was frustrating to listen to.
Miss this marvelously TALENTED lady who was so NATURALLY funny. She died in December of 1999 shortly after her 57th birthday. One of her BEST films came out right before she died called JUDY BERLIN. She should have been posthumously nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for it in 2000. She saved the best for last. Wonderful actress and very classy lady. RIP.
Truman Capote Supposedly there was talk in some circles that she was going to be nominated but the movie didn't reach wide enough to make that happen sadly. Both she and Barbara Barrie (my winner) should have been nominated for Supporting Actress. (11/19/18)
@@henryjackson2357 It may not have qualified, as a small independent movie it had a long, strange rollout, festivals & then theatres much later, Madeline helped promote it @ premieres.
She was so smart, beautiful and talented. I miss her and so does everyone else. May she rest in peace. I believe she could have played any part handed to her. Rose does not let her talk nearly enough. SHE'S THE TALENT!!!
Oh man, I've never seen her interviewed! Her characters are so high-energy, I expected her actual personality to match. One of the funniest women ever to perform!
Only Charlie Rose could fuck up a perfect opportunity to interview a stunning guest like Madeline Khan, constantly talking over her, she shines nonetheless.
She brought the quintessential flustered woman stereotype to every role, save for "Blazing Saddles"(which was just as awesome!). I'll always wonder if "Cosby" would have gone on longer if she hadn't passed away. She left such a gaping hole without Pauline there to torment Hilton.
Elizabeth in Young Frankenstein was the opposite of flustered - until the creature unzipped! Apparently Mel Brooks wanted the sound of the zipper to go on endlessly but couldn't get it past the censors, so Madeline's "Woof!" & "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" had to suffice. And did they!
So classy, articulate, sexy, humble and just lovely! Miss her :/. Another one of the truly special greats gone too soon! Woman was friggin hilarious. Had her own unique signature style. Legendary now. Only 57 when she died (similar to John Ritter) which is nothing today. Yes, Charlie Rose was kind of annoying. I truly hate when an interviewer is overbearing and doesn't let someone talk esp when they're kind of soft spoken and shy like Kahn was.
@thebigl156: And Lucille Ball was terrible to her. She kept growling “When are you going to give me “Gooch”? And Kahn was working her way into the character and Ball couldn’t wait, so they fired her. At least she wasn’t associated with MAIMED starring Lucille Ball who couldn’t sing, dance, interpret lyrics or deliver line readings. And she was blurry to watch. I squinted so much my eyes were sore. And all because she paid $2 mil of the $14 mil production cost. What a waste and missed opportunity of s property and not to use Madeline Kahn.
I became a fan of George Lucas because of his Rose interview, Charlie was trying to build something up (Kennedy Center Honors?) & Lucas would have none of it - "We give each other awards all the time." I think Rose's arrogance was part of his downfall, he thought he was beyond criticism or consequences. Ironic that Madeline could work with both Rose & Cosby but thought that her 1st interview with Mel Brooks was casting couch - because she was lampooning Dietrich, he asked to see her legs, she thought it was a come on. So Mel had to tell her about his happy marriage, & ended up inviting her to dinner with his wife Anne Bancroft repeatedly & the three became friends, Mel wisely repeatedly worked with MK.
At first glance I thought it was jane fonda and almost blocked the channel - then I saw 'Madeline Kahn' - my goodness she was an attractive and talented lady. Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles - was sad to hear she passed.
The comment about her playing a diabolical killer made me wonder how she would have played Felicia Tillman in Desperate Housewives. I think she would have been spectacular!❤❤
It amazes me how some terrible interviewers did or do so well in the US ... this guy is really terrible but of course Ms. Kahn shines thru... brilliantly intelligent woman
Madeline Kahn was such a great talent and a kind, thoughtful and intelligent human being. Miss her so much. Charlie Rose has shown what he is…another powerful person who abused his position and inflicted harm on others.
Very hard watching this knowing what we know about Mr. Rose & Mr. Cosby now. Ugh. This was one of Madeline's last projects before her passing IIRC. Love her.
She was the kind of woman that made me want to get down on my knees and thank God I was a man.... Yep, she reminded me of my mother all right no doubt about it.
He interrupts so much. I get frustrated that this interview couldn’t be completed. Because he likes hearing his own voice. More than being a good listener.
Holy shit, I can't believe all these people trashing Charlie Rose. He was one of the greatest intellectual talk show host ever. In fact I miss he just as much if not more than the beautiful and talented Madeline Khan. His show should never have ended. The modern media situation has suffered an intellectual deficit with the removal of his show. But, America in this current time loves to throw the baby out with the bath water. That's how the herd moves, Nietzche reminded of this years ago. Don't forget to move with the school of fish, you wouldn't want to stray from the flock, would you now?
Just love Madeline. Thanks for keeping her memory alive.
I love this woman!!! May she always rest in peace 🙏

At 2:57 Charlie Rose calls Phylicia Rashad "Phyllis". He did that in his earlier interview with Bill Cosby too. Cosby corrected him.
