He really was a kind person. My mum, dad and older brother, who was about 4 years old at the time, met him on the docks waiting to board a boat to France after the '51 Silverstone race. He graciously accepted to hold my brother in his arms for a photo and had a short chat with my dad.
@@hmdwgf I wasn't born at the time so I don't know exactly how it went down but my dad spoke a bit of french and spanish. I imagine it wasn't a very complicated exchange! Just being able to get close and personal with a star like him would be a bit more difficult today.
The most impressive thing about Fangio’s accomplishments isn’t his 5 championships, IMO. It’s participating in those insane 15 day South American open road capital-to-capital races in the 1940s, and winning them.
Fangio came to European F 1 racing at an age when today’s F 1 drivers are retiring. Fangio was a true gentleman driver and always raced fairly and whatever team he was racing with he always got the best out of car. A very respected world champion.
What a fantastic film! I knew a bit about Fangio and how good he was, but didn’t realise how much of a brilliant man he was off the track! True Gent and talent!!
Stirling Moss rated him as the greatest driver , and those were the days when racing was really dangerous , unlike today , when playing dominoes is more hazardous .
Lol racing is still dangerous today, yes not as much as before but that’s because of the safety measures implemented and nothing wrong with that, that’s always meant to happen.
Come On! The Cubans Never meant the great man any harm. They (Fidel?) just wanted to meet 'im. 46 y old and killed lap record atth Ring(!) 9 times. The Don.
@@matvt.2451 For Italians we are Argentines starving. But when an Argentine with an Italian surname transcends, then he does have Italian blood. Caraduras !! He is Argentine, not Italian. Italy did not give him anything, Argentina did.

do you have the photo?
@@nehuencah5883 Yes, I have an 8 X 10 photocopy, the original was smaller and I think my brother has it.
Wow. That is SO cool! But I’ve heard Fangio didn’t speak English, so I guess your Dad spoke Spanish or Italian.

Each country had great drivers and Fangio was great! In the US we had AJ Foyt!🇺🇲

Such a genuine being. One of a very few.
Thanks for a nice documentary on Sr Fangio. Star racer no doubt. Absolutely dominant at the whole scene of F1.
Embarrassed that I never heard of him considering I was in the race car business for years (Le Grand Race Cars, Willow Springs, CA)
Netflix has a fangio doc coming soon!
Thank you for posting. I hear his name constantly during the F1 season but, I hadn't ever seen a documentary about him.
No words. Thankyou.🌹

Seems a bit hypocritical to hear him bang on about the importance of the family...given he never married, and never recognised any of his 3 sons.
