    There are 4 MagnaCut and 1 H2 steel blades involved. I am also testing the blade hardness on 3 of them.

    Spyderco has mentioned in some interview (its with one of the big retailers), that they have swapped the hardware in the salt knives to be corrosion proof as well. Regardless I am glad there is a channel that challenges that and shows that the things that companies states reflects what they do. Solid vid and wish you a good day.

    I just got the newly released Spyderco UKPK in magnacut, and it's one of my all-time favorite knives. I love how lightweight and ergonomic the UKPK is. I also love how the UKPK is a non-locking knife, yet when its blade is opened, it has zero blade play👍 I can also flick the blade of the Spyderco UKPK open one handed😁

      I’m wondering if the new Labour Government will be likely to increase or decrease the knife regulations in the UK? It is my expectation that the British people will soon be limited to carrying wooden blades only (like the ones provided on Lufthansa airlines with meals). Thoughts?

Both the LC200N and magnacut UKPK knives are made with FRN scales and have coated hardware/pocket clips, so they are virtually rust proof. The LC200N and magnacut UKPKs are good knives to carry this summer because where I live is been 90+ degree and extremely humid(swamp ass weather)🥵

    Your tests are very thorough, with a very scientific un-biased approach. I don't live near the ocean, but I have been sweating on my pocket knives for years. I've had some spots show up on a few steels, K390 and ZDP-189. The 5th pocket on jeans stays wet during summer months, mix of sweat and lint, fingerprints and cardboard dust are my real world factors.
    I've noticed spots in the jimping myself, but a stiff nylon brush and some oil are enough to stop any real corrosion. Got a Native 5 in Magnacut in my pocket some days, I bet it won't have the same spots.

    I have a native 5 salt that I used quite extensively and it was wet quite often and had no issues... until my colleftion grew and I put it away for about a year, when I took it out to maintain it had developed rust and corrosion in the jimping. This is not a bad thing. Your videos are very informative and relevant. I recently brought the Manix Salt and it came to me with cracked scales out of the box. I was so disappointed for a USA made spyderco. My other spyderco from Japan and Taiwan models were perfect out of the box. CB I don’t know your background but there is more to you than meets the eye I’m sure. Regarding the length of the videos, we will always watch and support you when you have the kind of in-depth analysis that you have and all the testing that you do. I did watch the video where Greg Medford was very annoyed at people who test knives that they buy and take them apart. But he’s on one side of a coin and we’re on the other side. We’re buying a product that they are saying is so superb and they are an extraordinary amount of money and they make accusations that we wanna make sure are accurate for the amount of money that we’re paying. If they send out a knife that has a bad bevel of course we’re going to be shocked and upset because he is on that Internet every day bragging about how good his knives are. so on the other side of the coin is where we sit, and he can understand that I would like to know what he spends his money on what he expects from his money that he spends.. would you get a good job on calling that out. Greg shouldn’t be so mad at you. He should be mad at the worker who didn’t do his job correctly never should he ever get upset at the customer for calling out a problem with his product comes out. Because of it happened once it’s gonna happen again and it’s happened before I’m sure but he would rather you call him and keep it on the down low then let anybody else know that these things happen. That’s what makes it worse to me.

    My Salt Para 3 is the easiest to deploy, followed by my Manix 2 Salt. My PM2 Salt also has a very tight action and is hard to open and close one handed. I'll likely rescale and tune the PM2 and not use it for water activities, and if getting wet will carry the other 2. My Para 3 is the lightest and most easily flickable and flicks closed just as fast, although I'm usually a bigger fan of the Manix 2 of any sort. My Salts will actually never see the exposure to salt-water like in your test, but rather maybe see fresh water in a standup paddle board or kayak or floating inner tube-like watercraft.

    I'm also surprised by the fact that on the serrations, there is no sign of rust. If I remember correctly, Spyderco had to start using the h2 instead the h1 because the steel manufacturer stopped the production of H1 and started with the H2 I don't know why but it doesn'tseems an improvement. As for me, my favorite is probably the pm2 just because I always prefer to have steel liners. Even though I prefer the ball bearing lock to the compression lock, that in my personal experience creates an annoying hot spot, at least in my pm2 (I have the cruwear micarta version).

    The salt pm2 in my testing on the water is the clear winner. Like you said corrosion begins to appear where water pools and the coating definitely helps. Where the water pools will leave an accumulation of dried salt. I found just wiping it off removes any accumulation with nothing left behind.

    Hi Buddy coating from the pm2 salt is DLC coating. Very resistant coating. I agree that Carribbean g10 handle is awesome. I love mine as well as my carribean. My theory for thoses corrosion spot on the jinpin and arround the spydiehole is due to machining process with aggressive abrasives/tools. The surface is not high polish (smooth satin finish is the best to prevent corrosion overt stonewash which creates micro void on the surface to trap the moisture). And also it's possible that this aggressive machining on the surface create a very small modification of the steel on the surface. We can guess that the serrations on the h2 are more representative of the unaltered h2 steel. Just my 2 cents nothing scientifically approved.

      @CuttingBoardRx  Před 13 dny +2

      @@armandkokotajlo2085 actually you are being too modest! Aggressive machining, such as required for creating the convex grind or jumping does alter the steel causing for example austenitisation, carbonisation… so yes, it is not the same. And, again, you are correct- the serrated edge is ground in with much more restraint than the primary grind. The enthusiasm to utilise the H2 steel has overwhelmed Eric’s typical balance 😂 probably because its use eliminates a step or two in the manufacturing process

The latter doesn't even respond to emails. When I asked Kershaw about using mineral oil on the knife (since I live in Brazil and there's only one store that sells only Nano Oil, which is extremely expensive), they replied that it's best not to use any oil to avoid residue buildup. On the other hand, Civivi said, which matches the information in their manual, to apply a thin layer of oil (they leave the type of oil open). So, there isn't a consensus.
