George and Jean Luc ... amongst the the most melodic and fluid soloists you'll ever hear. Love em both.
I saw Jean luc at the Royal Oak music theater in the late 70s. I've been amazed ever since! I'm 60 years old today
Hello, meeting these musicians while listening to them on stage is a privilege. Jean-Luc Ponty and Georges Duke are at the top of their art.
George Duke shouldn't need to tell you what Zappa songs he's playing. If you don't know your Zappa by heart by now maybe you' ain't about ur sh!t like you should be. Boy I sure am gonna miss hearing George playing Uncle Remus with so much damn soul. RIP Zappa and the Mothers
To see these gentlemen live is incredible. If you can't follow this groove you ain't hip.
JLP , a pure musical genius...
Guy Akwa (bass) & Damien Schmitt (drums)
Aug. 1, 2012.
I heard Jean Luc the first time in Munich at Jazz Now, Solo Now. He played for half an hour, in between Chick Corea's and John McLaughlin's solo performances.
There he played a tremolo on the E string and switched to the G string, without any sound from the D and A strings. At that time I knew that I was just witnessing a wonder.
This man is beyond any other violinist.
Music is the best R.I.P. George Duke !
The great thing about this is that the proof of the collaborations remain Eternal!@ Frank proved to be a total Genius but look at the Excellent geniuses that he chose to work with!
Duke and Jean Luc
What a great show
Merveilleux,
Musiciens au top
Zappa un génie
Merci
Beautiful. JL reaches the parts few musicians get to.
Due giganti fantastici....😎👏👏👏👏👏👏
Lo pude ver en Montevideo un fenómeno saludos a toso
Saw JEAN-LUC PONTY in 1978 @ GUSMAN IN MIAMI,FLA HE IS AMAZING THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN ,
Hey hey, yes: Jean-Luc and George are superior as always!!!
But look at Damien Schmitt at the drum set and Guy Nsangué Akwa at bass!!! They are wonderful outstanding musicians, too!!!
This drummer has a killer single stroke. Besides his great musicianship of course.
Are they (with Guy Nsanké Akwa) regular Ponty's sidemen ?
It's a great pleasure to hear Ponty. I discovered him with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Apocalypse was recorded in 1974, and his playing always moves me.
@@ofdrumsandchords
Guy yes, Damien on and off, well ten to twenty years ago, since Jean-Luc is 80 years old now.
Sitting here listening and watching this for the first time I'm digging the bass he's just back there grooving.
Jean Luc's technique of bowing very lightly, scraping overtones out of the strings, is such a distinctive signature of his style, and he's had it since his first recording.
Its also what we call 'insane bow technique'. Hes the only violinist i've ever heard bow a melody in such a way that it sounds as if someone is singing with the violin. Its one of his specialty techniques.
I think of Stephane Grappelli when I hear Jean Lu-Ponty. Stephane must have been his biggest influence?
This bowing technique is shared by most jazzrock violinists. Didier Lockwood was notorious for the same technique, Jerry Goodman and of course Grappelly. Danish Svend Asmussen was not one of them, possibly due to his classical upbringing, and also influence from Joe Venuti.
for electric violin you can't avoid the noise of bow, it's all about EQ guys ;)
That solo on the Duke medley from JLP really shines like the comfort of a musical family.
FZ would be proud!
So nice to see the band and Jean-Luc. Hey George you too!
Kudos to the rhythm section as well. George, we miss you still, but hey you left us some great music.
That drummer is TIGHT!
TIGHT !
like the Bass player,
and Everybody else in that Band.
Amazing how GD & JLP could imitate Zappa's guitar solos
(they spend many years playing, recording, touring with Frank).
I an listening to this concert at 3:00 am. Can't sleep, wasn't aware how great this two Played & Sound together
Music Maestro,FZ a good Friend 💐
Man this is so cool, long live FZ/GD Jean Luc the man too!!
I saw George Duke with the Mothers in maybe 1971 when he was still dignified. Sure is different here.
Two of my favorites. George is so natural.
Awesome medley rendition, great! Listen to the interplay of drums and moog on Inca Roads!
All I can say is...Wow......and when George and Jean Luc played with Frank.....Wow wow
Outstanding! Wish I’d known of this festival 30+ yrs ago 😮

The first time I saw him was at the Gammage Theatre in Tempe AZ 1979

Jazz fusion and eletro jazz gusion is the hodiern, actual school style of birth of polyrithmics mudicals genius of the world 🌎🌍.
It's a global fact.
It's another dimension of music 🎶🎶❤😅

Musical History!!

The master of the Dukey Stick!
The Dukey stick! You my friend are a member of my tribe. The fact you even remember that made me smile! Thank you for this comment!
@@christopherdusil2590 Yes indeed! And all who know of the Dukey Stick are legendary!
INCREIBLE , MUSICOS COMO PONTY , MCLAUGHLIN, METHENY ( MAS JOVEN), EL GRAN ZAPPA (RIP), Y OTROS , A LA EDAD QUE TIENEN TOCAN , COMPONEN Y ANDAN DE GIRA CASI PERMANENTEMENTE, GRACIAS POR ESTE TEMA
Wow!!! Nothing else...
♥️
Wowser!
Damien Schmitt on drums ?
👍 👍
I just wanted to see them make it thru "Inca Roads."
Technically they didn’t: Dweezil’s band do more technically correct and accurate versions.
Que podes agregar de estos monstruos hijos de Zappa
George was better without the vocal effects IMO. but still amazing & an outstanding keyboardist . 🎹💯🎶
RIP & Return if Possible
U can can tell, watt u want - as much as stupid as u want - as crazy as u want :
THIS music is ONE : ('s) // ZAPPA
Thank goodness for Bluetooth!
We need waaaay more JLP. Fk the american (yyeww) music industry for ignoring a master musician of such magnitude, innovation, and HEALTHY creation.
Can anyone tell me the name of this composition?
Brilliant, so why doesn't it have a wider audience? Because, may I suggest, the Zappa charisma is missing.
@@ThomasBlomster Of course, Dweezil is brilliant too at presenting Zappa's music to the audience and I do credit him for not trying to emulate Frank's charismatic showmanship on stage which was extraordinary and without question all eyes were on him. The show was always about Frank Zappa himself.
And an honor to correspond with you, Ms. Bird! Enjoyed your book! Best I saw with Dweezil was show in Denver with members of Colorado Symphony where hey we're allowed to stretch! Dweezil honored his father's instincts.
@@ThomasBlomster indeed, all praise to Dweezil. And thank you for reading my book. Mojo magazine this month (a UK publication) has a 10-page article on Frank Zappa which indicates he's still alive and kicking among us. And thank you for reading my book. I'm pleased that it is the only one that captures Frank's home life on a daily basis.
Son of Frank Zappa
the sound engineer must have had a hangover
It's hilarious that a guy several posts before you said the sound was great and seemed to come at him from every direction! 😜
@@jackzango7134 Hm, I don't know what he was smoking before, if the sound reaches him from every direction. 🤣
arf
Ha! George cheats some notes while Jean-Luc plays them all...
the toms are too loud in this mix
Duke and Luc. Need I say more. If you listened to them you have been blessed. Missing George always.❤❤❤
Indeed, sir👏🏾🙏🏾
