Does Noise Cancelling on the XM5 just reduce outside noise or completely nullify ? What's your experience like?
I first have to say that I have very little experience in audio and am only speaking as a novice listener. When I listen to music or a podcast with noise cancelling on, I hear no outside noise (even in the gym unless there is a loud yell or something right next to me). If I just have them in my ears playing nothing, then yes, noise seeps in for sure but drastic difference than when noise cancelling is off. @@av365
@@av365 the nc is so good that I didn’t even hear my train coming. I only noticed it was coming from the vibrations lmao
@@ceizhore4498 idk.. But the anc on ur until seems too good. For me, the sound intensity is reduced but i could still hear noise. Suppose the TV is playing and sit nearby, i would still be able to hear the voices clearly even though the volume seems much reduced.
Now u make me wonder if i should really return
@@av365 oooh that does not seem right. When i have it turned on I legitimately hear nothing from the outside world while playing my music. I would get it checked

Hi aaron how are you? Look i have a question, is the quality of the foam on the xm5 better than the xm4??? If not what 3rd party eartips will give me the exact same anc quality and bass. I need to sort out this issue before i get mine delivered 😅
Just got my WF-1000 XM5s, and despite having the WH-1000 XM3s and XM5s, the earbuds felt like a completely different beast to understand. Thanks so much for this video - each point was concise and helped clarify all the questions I had (plus gave me helpful tips I would never have considered, which really helped optimize my listening experience). Hey Aaron, thank you for the hard work! Hopefully I'll be able to trade in my XM4s with the XM5 soon. But btw, did you notice that with the latest update, the XM4s can't independently connect? I used to be able to just either the left or the right earbud independently but now, only the right one! Please help with this if you can, the feature was super useful and it helped me mentally as I could use one after the other knowing I'm not draining only the right earbud's battery.

I just got those. XM4 sounded better. I could never wear xm4 for longer than let’s say 30 min b/c they would hurt my ears. The new ones are more comfortable but the sound quality went down. They sound very thin. I cross compared them with AirPods Pro and beats studio buds +. For iPhone - AirPods work best in my opinion.
Great video, and a huge help to me. I thought that the app would allow me to completely customise what the taps on each earbud do, rather than just choosing between playback on one side and noise cancelling on the other. Have I missed something?

In notifications and voice prompts can you turn off the touch control tones ? everytime you tap on the earbuds touch controls you hear a noise and I’m sure you could switch it off on the xm4s
Is there any way to change the touch sensor settings for playback. For example, if I want to tap twice (instead of 4 times) on the right sensor to increase volume, can I change that and have 3 taps on the right sensor to skip to next song? Thanks!
Hi, for the voice guide on mine its turned on but I dont hear the voice, just the little bell notifications. Is there a way to hear the voice for the wfxm5s??
What would you suggest trying if my XM5 gets cut out like each 1-2 minutes for a fraction of a second? It happens when im walking and my phone is in my pocket (lets say left pocket), so the right ear would cut out. I tried switching phones and it didnt help, i am using already AAC codec.
Really annoying thing when listening to music and given that these are really expensive earbuds, previously i owned XM3 and it worked just fine (the mic sucked though), it never cut off like this
Enjoyed your video, Aaron but is possible to change or program the touch sensor functions because under "Ambient sound Control/Quick Access" settings are currently showing "Not Assigned" for Double and Triple Tap and I can't seem to change it. Is it how Sony meant for it to be i.e. unassigned?

Is it possible to properly edit the playback settings? I want to change the command assigned to each tap. Remove voice assist all together.
Are the only customization of the touch controls left or right ear? I really like to have 1 tap on the left mapped to skip track and 1 tap on the right play pause. It's so annoying when you can't make the headphones do what you want. My soundcore liberty 3 pro battery is in rough shape and I need something new.
How does the sound of these compare to beoplay ex?
Am I right in saying that if you have ambient sound turned on it drains the battery just the same as ANC ? So your better off Havering the option to turn it off right
Hey there! I was wondering if you have any updates on using spatial audio for the WF-1000XM5 in other devices such as samsung phones. I recently bought a pair and i was really hoping to use the spatial audio, but i cant seem to find any options for such. P.S my phone is a galaxy note 10 lite and a friend's galaxy buds spatial audio worked completely fine.
Can you download the app and just link it to the earbuds or do you have to create an account?
Dis they ever fix the microphone with the firmware update or does it still sound like crap. If yes, can you do a before/after video?

I just bought xm5 and first thing happened at the gym was continously turning off. I had to close app. Then it stoped and it was great. What option in app could cause that problem? I would rather use app than turn it off every time I workout.

It doesn't fall easily. Foam tips keep them in place well

First time with Sony buds. My LDAC was turn on in Android developer mode but did not know I had to turn on LDAC in Bluetooth setting. Also, I did not know how to activate Noise Cancellation. This tutorial was very helpful. Thanks.

Wow. They really need to add custom options for the touch sensor buttons like they do with the xm4000. I want full volume controlls on my left ear that I can scale with only 1 or 2 taps. Pressing both side of my ear 4 times to try and get the volume just right is a ridiculous oversight. Its so bad I though it just needed and update but there is still no way for volume customization like the previous model.

Can you test some foam eartips replacements for this Sony? Are there some reputable ones? I dont want to buy some random tips from Amazon and cross fingers they will be a good choice for such an expensive earbuds.
Maybe you could ask Sony why they dont sell bulk replacement packs at the reasonable price? Maybe you will be treated seriously.
How do you reply to message read out by google assistant, I hear countdown beeps after message has been read, which I presume is my cue to reply , but I dont know how. Help, love your videos by the way.

This was a fantastic video Aaron! The speak to chat is problematic during calls though, because it not only stops noise cancellation but also pauses any audio, including the other person speaking :( Is that how it is expected to behave?
Great review, but like every other review, not enough emphasis on audio reproduction sound quality, which is the earbuds primary function for me.
How would you compare these to the Technics Az80?

Bass is heavier in MTW3. I have both and the sony sounds much more true to life and clean. You can really boost bass in MTW3 to absurd levels. Overall I like the xm5 better

Anyone have issues with the microphone on these? Mine were great for about 3 months and now the microphone on the left earbud is very muffled and quiet and sometimes doesn't pick up any sound at all. Have factory reset and initialized many times and it's the same regardless of what device I connect it to.

If it only had good call quality, I would have kept them, I talk to my mom 1 hour a day almost every day, I have no problem with the Buds2 Pro, L3P amd the Tozo OpenReal, with the WF-1000XM5 my mom and my wife said I my voice sounded scrapy, muffled and cutting off in a QUIET enviroment, while driving it got worse, I think I will buy the Linkbuds S again to get that Sony clean sound, not saying Sony sound is the best, but on earbuds sound is pleasant and clean.
It'll get better in few firmware updates so just refund them and wait until they fix it
I think the Aiprods have the best call quality, not sure why. I always come off clearly om them.
Yeah my main problem with these is also the calls. Nobody can understand what I'm saying. If you don't install Sony app the can hear me a lot better, but then you loose some customizations that you are paying 300€ for.

In terms of earbuds apple usually releases AirPods on 3 year cycles. So we probably won’t get new Pros til 2025, though they will might be upgrading the charging cases to usbc on new models near end of year for the new iPhones

I want to know why the noise cancellation is so bad? I shouldnt hear the outside noise, wind noise, home sport blender noise ,vacuum cleaner noise.
Had Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds, no sound pr 23:13 oblem, warranty got off and Earbuds were in warranty fix about month, so they send the money. Thanks
Every time I want to use only one earbud, the noise cancelling turns off by itself. It is annoying because sometimes I pick the side which isn't set up with the noise cancellation control, so I have to pick the other side and turn it off actively. can somebody help me with this issue??
Bought the XM5 today but will return them if possible. The ANC is bad from my testing. It cant remove the noise from my kitchen fan, vacuum cleaner or my wifes voice. She has a pair of AirPods Pro 2, with those the fan and vacuum cleaner is barely audible. And her voice very low. Have tried all tips (the test in the Sony app thought booth medium and large tips was ok) and turned of the auto stuff. Really dissapointed.

just got these recently but i'm not happy with it. The sound keeps cutting from the left side for like les than a second but still is annoying. My phone is a Pixel phone
I've been wondering for a long time: Why did Sony abandon the rough but very pleasant surface of its XM4 for a shiny low-end plastic for its XM5!!?
And it may be bogus, but the primary function of these headphones is to better cancel out external noise... So maybe a highly reflective surface reflects reflects high-frequency sounds more than a rough one? I presuppose that by absorbing the high frequencies in the body (no reflection), the latter had more work to do in processing them? What do you think?
My take is that it was more an aesthetic decision. The plastic and lacquering seems very high quality but it came at the expense of practicality.
@@aaronloudnwireless Honestly, I find it rather down-market for me. I'm French and in France, shiny plastics are reserved for the "interiors" of budget cars, for example ;-)

I bought the sony wf-1000 xm5, just a few weeks ago, and it is not working in the way it supposed to. I cant get throug to the anc, it is simply not there. I was bought in Bandung Indonesia, knowing the anc part was not working, I did go back to the shop. The manager of the shop told me that nothing was wrong with the sony's and refused to give me a new pair. What can I do next? Service is out of the question, I visited the shop already 3 times. I think I'm in need of some help
DId you try different sizes of ear tips? the foam needs to be inserted securely into your ear canal for ANC to work.

What I noticed when I watched your video with the best custom settings, you had more to choose from, when I followed your doing step by step. To see your choices compare to mine, and my ANC that is not working, the refusal from the shop manager to give me a new pair of wf 1000-xm5. Can you please think of something that will help me further?
