What an amazing musician. He went from growing up in a childhood that one would deem as incredibly traumatic. He built himself up and created a rap empire. Unfortunately, drugs took a toll in his life and he down spiraled. He had to teach himself how to grow as a person and all in all, he is an amazing, resilient human being with so much talent. We are genuinely blessed to even hear a snippet of his god given talent.

You don't make a movie in a month. It takes a year for a best case scenario.
They shoot the movie in 2014, after years of pre-production (it was a long-gestating project, was supposed to be shot in 2010/2011), so Em dropped out to focus on his music career instead.
In 2013 he published MMLP2, in 2014 he promoted the hell out of it with a tour, and at the same time, he was producing SHADYXV. Then in 2015/2016, he produced both Yelawolf and Skylar Grey new albums.
If you consider he does not look like a multitasking guy (in the sense of doing two completely different things at the same time, not just producing two plus albums at the same time), you can realize that acting in Southpaw was not that great of an idea for him.
Also, you don't produce an album overnight either. Most likely it's a year or more of work.
He was going to be the main role and I think it was in some way meant to be a sequel to 8 mile in the original script
