    Hi mate...đŸ‡ș🇾🚜🇩đŸ‡ș
    Crops coming along nicely..
    You guys farm alot different from our farm. Here we don't really have many sloughs, we do have wet spots. These are mainly due to variations in soil types and not so much in difference in hights. Though we also have to go back and plant these areas if it drys out. Here we use drones with thermal imaging cameras to detect moister variations in areas, so that we know when we can go back to plant.
    Hope the season goes well for you..
    Stay safe.

    Hi Mike, thnx for informative and great video again!
    like the speeding and joy with the quad in the field. Hard to compete with the Green monster, particularly with Ashtyn at the wheel?
    Right, so with this sole rainfed based farming approach, ur using nature and the water available in the soil in best manner throughout the season this way! Giving sloughs a change too to generate substantial additional crop, wheat from the same field (and limit weeds to flourish there as well?). Great!
    By the way Mikey, I like a bunch the yellow flowers at the side of the road ;). We call that nature and biodiviersity and that kind of stuff ;). Don't call those weeds okay :). It add some color to the area, which thusfar is mainly grey, isn't it? Further some insects, bees, caterpillars etc. may like these flowers. It allows to enlarge the animal family out there a bit ..;). Enjoy!

    Mike has the last 20 years been wetter where you are??? A friend lives/farms in Alberta and he has sloughs that have hundreds of acres in them now that did not have water in them for the prior 50 years he could remember. He had some of them dry out some 2 years ago but a lot of them refilled in later 2019. Totally different style of farming when compared to my Iowa soils. I Thank you for your videos. I get a lot of enjoyment out of seeing different areas and farming styles.

    Hi Mike. Would it be worth it to have a smaller, maybe 40 ft. drill for doing the touch-ups?

      No, there's too many sloughs and it adds up.. 68ft drill is the smallest drill we have and it's too small.. We ll go out with a few drills to finish the sloughs.. Remember, if there was even 2000ac, that 2000ac will take you 4 times longer now because you have to move and hunt for them and you want this done in a week or so

      What if you were to get a 40ft drill and pull it with the Fendt. And maybe you can with the lighter drill go faster on the road with that fendt. I mean if your only doing ~30 acres a quarter but you can move fast between fields it would be I assume beneficial.... idk what can a dealer loan u guys a smaller drill and do some testy tests?

      Would a say 1895 be better for replanting vs a shank type drill?

      Why do you call them sloughs, in Australia a water hole is called, wait for it----- “a water hole”. ha ha

    When you update the sloughs, does it update the maps and then are those maps used when you harvest to know where there should be product to harvest? Or when you harvest, do you start over?

  • @Grimskarr
    @Grimskarr Pƙed 4 lety +1

    So you plant wheat into the sloughs regardless the crop in the rest of the field? How does that work come harvest when the crops are different (ie. a lentil field with wheat planted sloughs)? Do you just combine around it and then come back later?

    • @mikemitchell2554
      @mikemitchell2554  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      Yes.. Because wheat is the shortest growing season crop we grow.. And it's the toughest, can handle chemical residues from different crops and can take that July heat when it's young (late) the best. We ll go around and then come back

    Hi Mike. Did you/ leave the land furthest from the farm to seed last so that you did not have to go back to seed sloughs, or was that how your crop rotation worked this year?
