Great trip report Nick! I was wondering about Zipair because I see them flying daily from LAX. Good to know they have lie flat seats. Hope to see you streaming from SFO soon!❤️✈️
Great report, Nick. Very jealous. I love Japan. Lived there in 1988 and would go back tomorrow if I could. Glad to see ZipAir since flying coach on that long of a flight is difficult and most first class seats are restrictively expensive.
I Absolutely Am Most Certainly Thinking About Traveling With Zipair Airlines Whenever I Do Go On Vacation Trips To Japan And Other Parts Of Asia With My Friends In The Future As Well Too Now And I Also Absolutely Wish That Zipair Had Nonstop Flights From Houston Texas To Japan As Well Too Now Nick! And Absolutely Much Love To You And Your Content Too Nick!
Most Asia airlines have a 7kg carry-on limit, and most don't have an option to pay to carry it on. They don't ask to weigh your carry-on unless it looks like it is too heavy (i.e. 22" roll-on suitcase, larger backpacks). You need to be aware especially if you take a US flight over there and need to take an Asian airlines flight somewhere in between. The US airlines will let you go as long as you meet the size limits. Now you can try to be sneaky about it by checking in and having someone else watch your bag so they don't see it and ask you to put it on the scale. This only works if you are traveling with a friend who is on a separate ticket. Tokyo is my jetlag city. The flight leaves CA late morning and arrives in Japan the next day late afternoon. This means you can immediately check into your hotel since it is after 3pm and the entire flight happens in my waking hours, lands around 11pm CA time. Get to the hotel, check-in, grab a bite, shower, sleep and wake in the morning on Asia time. Little or no Jetlag. Then a couple days later fly to your desired destination well rested and on Asia time. No better place to recover from jetlag than Tokyo.
Greetings from Tokyo. Last Monday was my special day, it's my 1st time flying Zipair flight number 1 from Honolulu to Tokyo Narita, flight is 85 to 90% full and the flight is good and okay, almost 8 hours, I pay between less than $300 to $400 and it's really cheap.
Loved the review! I'm only hearing about Zipair today, and I'm going to keep it in mind for my trip next year. I appreciate the chapters you put in to get back to specific information quickly. It doesn't seem like I'd want thge full flat seats as I will be with two other people and I want to sit with them.
Thanks for the review. I'm taking ZIPAIR out of SJC this coming May/June for my first Full Flat trip. I took ZIPAIR economy for the first time this past July/Aug out of LA. I liked the lower cost compared to ANA and to be honest I didn't see much difference in service. For a budget line, it was just as nice and the attendents were awesome. The only gripe that I had was the internet wouldn't connect on any of my devices from LA to NRT, but was mostly fine on the return flight. But, it was a great trip nonetheless.
Nice to see you back here, Great report! A request…Would you mind editing this to add a cost breakdown of your flights? Most if us want to know. Thanks! Looking forward to more SFO and SJC plane spotting! Rick in SMF.
When I booked the flight, it was still on promotion for the opening of booking for the route. So it wouldnt match real world prices now. But this is what I paid. Base fare for Standard to NRT was $384, not including any addons. Fare for Full-Flat to SJC was $705, no extras.
Great review, Nick! Too little padding on a lie-flat seat is just poor design, especially for - ahem - _slightly larger_ folks like me. Shame they couldn't get that right, but looked pretty good otherwise! Nice to see SJC getting some love. We'll see how long it lasts. Other international flights have come on gone over the years, but they never quite seem to get traction. Here's hoping!
Great Video! Interesting that zipair has the economy seats in a 3-3-3 configuration even though they got the plane from japan airlines, which had 2-4-2 (i think). Look forward to ur sfo streams!
hey nick-- WE TALKED ON THE BRIDGE A FEW DAYS ABOUT !!! QUESTION for you. I know the 1500 can live stream and they claim it can connect to the wifi on the cellphone and let you do a live stream to youtube from your cell signal without a computer... Have you ever tried this setup and if so, did it work? thanks!!
IDK whether ANA has resumed their flights to SJC out of Haneda. It kind of makes sense because the more elite option would be closer to Tokyo's city centre while the budget option would be further away from downtown Tokyo, hence Narita Airport. Also I believe ZIPAIR is a trans-Pacific version of Avelo Airlines instead of Spirit Airlines, where there are no frills whatsoever and the overall service is fair rather than subpar.
I believe the arm rests next to other seats can be raised all the way if I remember, but the ones at the isle and at the window do not usually on planes.
Flat-packed food! Shades of a Swedish furniture company's method of presentation. I have never flown on, and never will fly on a B787. I need control of the window. It's too hit-and-miss to risk spending my money on an airline that may, or may not give me control. Also, when I book flights I look at seat maps and watch videos like your superb report. If an airline doesn't have window seats in Business Class, like Zipair, I avoid it. Finally, thank you! You have solved the question of why plant-based food is healthy. Your ice cream was so bad that you didn't eat it, so it contributes to weight-loss! 🍦🍦😁😁
Very good and informative review. Would be interested to try ZIPAIR if they come to the UK. My last trip to Tokyo was on JL out and BA return. ZIPAIR seem like great value.
Wonderful trip report. It's weird that you couldn't pay for overweight luggage at the check in. I never thought their full flat seat ticket doesn't even include meal. I have mixed feeling about Zip Air... I think I'd choose ANA/JAL to fly from/to Japan instead.
I’m all for saving a few bucks but is it worth it for that peace of mind? I’m actually looking for tickets to Tokyo and am considering ZipAir. I’ve taken Spirit Airlines but that was only a one hour flight from Vegas to Bay Area. I’m seeing JAL tix for $300 more…not sure which I’m gonna choose (again saving money vs amenities).
Just bought the full flat seats for the same San Jose flight round trip! This is definitely the most affordable option if you wanna lie down in the air. The business class from ANA is 5000+ more expensive 😂
Weird question, but I keep watching videos, to see if the seat lean back on the main cabin seats. At least to nap. Can you tell us? I know some low budget airline seats don’t lean back at all
@ 15:03, there is a Delta flight landing, but I thought that Delta stopped flying to NRT in early 2020 and this inaugural ZipAir flight was late 2022. Is that a codeshare with Korean Air?
Wow, wonderful trip report! Very uncharacteristic of a Japanese carrier to have such a chaotic boarding line. Very mixed feelings about Zipair, just having to pay for everything and worry about the weight of the carryon among other things is a pain especially for an international flight.
Responding to the comments below. If I was a business flyer, no way am I flying on a LCC. ANA is my first choice, then JAL. If I'm flying on vacation, is it worth saving $1,000 off a RT ticket to fly on ZipAir to Tokyo. Well, certainly worth considering.......
Thank for the video. I just visited Japan last month by ANA. I love ANA airlines. But this time, July I will travel to Japan again. I am thinking purchase Flatbed fr Zipair on departure and regular seat on return. I have been using other low cost airlines in asia like Scoot, Air Asia, Peach airlines, so I understand what need to buy extra package.
ANA JFK-Haneda economy seats are so narrow it is criminal. 11 seats per row, 3 on each side and 4 in the middle. The Narita to Beijing flight which is less four hours have much more spacious seating. Not again
I myself have not flown via ZipAir but checking on their site it looks like it is 500 ish (depends on date) for regular seats, and 1400 for the full flat seats. I think other airlines it is usually around 3-6k+ for business or higher
How the hell do you get the seat to go back like everyone else? I dont see any controls to bring my seat just a little back like how everyone else has. Frustrating
If I will fly from Manila to Seattle....I prefer to have my meal included and not pay an additional 11,- for a small meal. I can almost never sleep well on flights...so having movie choices is great for me. With that being said....Zipair would never win me over. There are other affordable airlines that better suit me
Could somebody please explain the checked baggage charges on Zip air? I’ve been looking to book a flight from Seoul to Tokyo and upon choosing the upgrade to 23 kg, moving to the next page it said there would be an additional charge I would have to pay?
Great flight report Nick, very jealous of the route.
We take a lot of insights from your flight reports! ✈
Great double trip report! Good to see Zipair, I was thinking of flying them to Tokyo in September but opted on JAL/ANA instead.
I'm flying ANA out of SFO NH7 in Business and flying back on NH118 to SEA in business
Great trip report Nick! I was wondering about Zipair because I see them flying daily from LAX. Good to know they have lie flat seats. Hope to see you streaming from SFO soon!❤️✈️

Wow, fantastic video. I loved you narration.
Right!? ❤❤
Since you pre-ordered the primum option, it should allow you 12 kg carry-on luggage weight.
I cant believe i just now saw this. Great report.
Thanks Jay!

Great video Nick. Flat seat 💺 looked good food also . And free wifi is a big + lol ✅
I've always flown JAL Economy, which is pretty solid, but I am considering a Zip lie flat for my next trip across the Pacific. Solid vid!

Hilarious pre-flight celebration😂 Nice video Nick!

Great review. For us we will only consider if it’s for the full flat seats. The baggage issue is a pain tho.
flying lay flat seats LAX to Tokyo on Friday - excited!! great video
11:25 peekaboo 😂😂 please teach me English. I really like the word you speak! ❤❤

Another very enjoyable..informative trip report. Hope to see some live spotting soon PS was there A water cannon salute for the inaugural flight?
Took this exact route around New years! Pretty great for the price I gotta say.

This is the best review of Zipair so far. Thank you so much.
In the standard seat (not full-flat), could you raise the arm rest all the way up?
I believe the arm rests next to other seats can be raised all the way if I remember, but the ones at the isle and at the window do not usually on planes.
@@NickFlightX Thank you so much!

I like EVA AIR. 2 free checked bags and full service. Chicago to Teipei to Manila.
I will be flying that last week of June!
Very good and informative review. Would be interested to try ZIPAIR if they come to the UK. My last trip to Tokyo was on JL out and BA return. ZIPAIR seem like great value.

looking forward to taking this flight from SJC to Tokyo.
Flying to Tokyo from SIN early Aug. I will report back how it goes. 😂😂 round trip ticket only USD 250 / S$350 ❤❤
Great info. We were thing of taking next year to Tokyo. Do I select the seat in front or to side when traveling with husband?
Amazing 😍🤩 flight ✈️🛫 vlogs 😊😊
Thank you for the review. I think I will pick ANA or Japan airlines.
Great suggestion to verify your carryon weight

I want to try ZIP air, but JAL was great during my last trip to Japan.
Love them! Hope the keep the prices down!
What was the price difference between regular economy and the lay flat seats?
Ikr
I am currently looking for flights (January 2024) and it’s about $500 difference
$670 regular or $1100 lay flat

If the seats next to you is empty in standard seating, do they allow you to lie down?
is ANA still flying to SJC?
When are you going to stream at SFO?

How much for the lie flat seats?
If I will fly from Manila to Seattle....I prefer to have my meal included and not pay an additional 11,- for a small meal. I can almost never sleep well on flights...so having movie choices is great for me. With that being said....Zipair would never win me over. There are other affordable airlines that better suit me
Zippy! 🥰🥰
Free WiFi?!? Count me in!
Could somebody please explain the checked baggage charges on Zip air? I’ve been looking to book a flight from Seoul to Tokyo and upon choosing the upgrade to 23 kg, moving to the next page it said there would be an additional charge I would have to pay?
ur cute
