  • This is my first video using a goPro. My friend let me borrow hers. When I travel to Montreal I always take the 747 bus into the city. Most of the time I take the metro as well. I just like riding the train. watch the video to see what it actually looks like to go from plane to the downtown area in Montreal, Canada

    Can't tell you enough how useful this video became for me when I traveled here! Thanks!
    A few things to note: When landing on a domestic flight, the machines are on the very far right side of the airport entrance. You have to walk quite a ways, but they do have 747 signs with arrows so you'll know you're heading in the right direction much like when you get outside, seen in this video. International flight, the machines are right in front of you when you come out of customs.
    There's also a huge 747 information booth set up for those who want to buy a ticket there and get more information. I simply used the machine and it was very easy. One was cash only and had absolutely no line up. The other machine had 4 or 5 families waiting.
    Once outside they now have two queues to line up in. One green, one pink. If you're just heading to the metro like in this video, line up in the pink line, however pay attention to what it says on the side of the bus that pulls up. It may be worth it to hop on the other line if there aren't many waiting in line on green!
    The other thing I wanted to note is that GETTING BACK to the airport is a little more confusing. You can go back to Lionel-Groulx and walk to the corner of Atwater and Delisle. There you'll see a bus stop that says 747 (#61334) and it will take you back to the airport. It took me quite some time to find this stop as the signs pointing to the bus stop at Lionel-Groulx were all taped up (for some reason).

      Just wondering does the bus stops at every station or we have to press some sort of button if we want to get off at particular station ?

    I had my honeymoon in Montreal in 2003, my wife and I LOVED the Montreal Metro! So easy to navigate & get around the city. I look forward to returning someday, probably in 2027 whenever the city finishes the Light Rail extension to Trudeau Airport.

    Aa a local I notice the special blue and orange slip for the Opus card. This is an electronic card that can be used to load "titles" or electonic tickets and lasses not only for the STM but also for the more regional sercvices in the 8 zones concentrically surrounding Mount Royal. It is also good in the Quebec city and Outouais regions (This does not mean Ottawa, but the area in Quebec across the Ottawa River.)
    Note: to use this you must first buy an Opus card. If you are a senior over 65, ask about the senior's version which will hold an embedded photo.
    The opus is refillabble and lasts typically 4 years. After that, when you get a new one, you can have he remaining titles ion the old one transferred to the noe so you don't lose money or titles.
    The Opus does not hold electronic money. it is not a revolving cash card.
    This can be very handy if you visit Montreal, /Quebec city or the area from aylmer Quebeec through Hull to toe town of Gatineau.
    For registered students between the age of 5 ans 24, when registering in school ask the school oiffice for the special form you need to be authorised for student discount. If a university student, ask the registrar of the University.
    This can save you about 50% of what you might otherwise spend, and you can also get a subscription at a further doiscount and with some added perks. Simply put, it pays you to learn!

      That elevator is only the first of 3. Each level has a separate elevator.
      That one shown takes you down (quite a distance down) to the ticketing platform where the turnstiles are located, as well as more ticket machines and a kiosk with an attendant.
      In high traffic times there may also be additional staff with more kiosks.
      At the turnstiles, follow instructions to use your card, and watch for the lights on the turnstile.
      If you have baggage that is too big for the turnastile, look for either a wide entrance or a plastic swinging gate. To open the gate, you many need to signal the operator in the kiosk to release the electric lock. After passing through, reclose the gate so it locks unless signalled otherwise, but keep an eye on the attendant for any adcded signals or instructions.
      Then watch the colour coded signs for further directions.
      A track on one side of a platform is not the opposite direction of the track opposite! so pay close attention again to the colpour coded signs which show the name of the last station in that route in that direction, green, ornage, yellow or blue. (however at Lionel groulx you have only the green and orange line.
      Generally the Orange line is the busiest and most important, but the green is a strong second. the other two lines are accessed from other stations which connect on the orange line at Berri-UQAM and Snowdon.

      Question about the one week STM regular fare purchased at the airport. Does one have to buy an Opus card to get a one week pass? I realize for a reduced fare an Opus card is necessary and the STM website only mentions "Available on Opus." Thanks.

    • @MikeNaples
      @MikeNaples Před 7 lety +2

      I have since found the answer to my question and will post it in the event anyone else has a similar inquiry. Yes one needs to buy an Opus card in order buy/use the one week STM fare. The card can be purchased from STM fare machine along with the one week fare at the airport (YUL).

    • @gingerkitty4
      @gingerkitty4  Před 7 lety +2

      I have used it alot. I don't know if there is a limit but apparently I havent hit it. An average ride costs $3 CAD plus change. I have used the 747 that is $10 just that ride. I have hopped on and the metro and buses up for five or more times in one day.

    • @poetnk
      @poetnk Před 7 lety +1

      If it's anything like other major cities (London, NYC, etc), the 3-day pass is unlimited for 3 days. Travel as much or as little as you want. Of course in both London and NYC, they're 7 day cards, and for half the price....

    How long it took from airport to Lionel ? Did the bus take highway 20 ? Thnx

    • @gingerkitty4
      @gingerkitty4  Před 7 lety +1

      maria stone . the traffic was terrible when I recorded this. the highway was closed for construction and the bus was taking back roads. I always plan about 45 to an hour for the trip. It also depends on your arrival time rush hour 5 to 7 pm and morning Rush hour is ridiculous. So 45 min average. hope that helps.

      @@gingerkitty4 dont expect it to be better now one year later the highway is still closed and it has been since I started secondary school which is in 2015. Now its part of our everyday life and its a big joke everyone joke about it and how it'll take them 10 year to finish(this is not the joke they actually said it'll take 10 years)

    This is great. I'm travelling to Montreal for the first time in a few weeks and was very dismayed that the Metro doesn't go to the airport. I see that there are technically two 747 routes. Do they both go to Lionel-Groulx from their airport?

    • @gingerkitty4
      @gingerkitty4  Před 7 lety

      I know recently they split the 747 to have a lionel groulx stop and then another one that will take you to downtown. I don't know if both stop at Lionel Groulx...good question.

    • @MikeNaples
      @MikeNaples Před 7 lety +1

      On the STM website Lionel Groulx is listed as a stop for the "downtown" 747 bus. So yes, either will get you there. www.stm.info/sites/default/files/planibus/en/747.pdf

      Having been there, I now have my own response to this. Yes, they will both take you to Lionel-Groulx HOWEVER, hopping on the terminus line (pink) allows you to skip ahead of everyone else waiting to get to city centre on the green line.

    • @gingerkitty4
      @gingerkitty4  Před 6 lety

      They have maps at each station. Peel to Berri would be on the Green Line going in the direction of Honore Beaugrand,

    • @theepicjamez99
      @theepicjamez99 Před 6 lety

      BD MW The direction of the metro is always towards the final stop on the line. So if you're going from peel to berri, you would go toward honoré beaugrand because that's the train is going from angrignon to honoré beaugrand so that's what the direction is :)
