Gulag - it is _NOT_ prison, but soft form of punishment with variety of freedom, in most cases just colony (similar to military camp), in some cases just ordinary settlement - village where prisoner only sleep and works in nearest city during day like regular citizen (de facto kind exile).
In US there are no gulags, they hold people only in prisons, in real cells. In Russia there are only several thousands people hold in prisons, it is considered as too brutal form of punishment, only for most dangerous criminals (manics, terrorists, etc).

@@expatamerican3234 Yeah. Didn't answer you yet regarding religion in Russia, if you remember, we talked a while back.
So, having this chance, here is the answer.
Though being a Russian, I'm not an orthodox, but Russian evangelical baptist.
We hold on only to doctrines from Bible, not man made religion and traditions.
Hopefully Russian Orthodox church wouldn't follow now or in near future their terrific mistake of 19-th century, when they heavily persecuted us, evangelicals, thus by doing so, brought horrible God's punishments on to Russia during almost all of 20th century.
To understand this deeper, please, -when you'll have a time, - go watch this important video with your beautiful Russian wife.
This is an extremely important, yet thoroughly hidden history of Russia, that actually was a linch pin to all of the unimaginable suffering of all of 20th century followed that persecution of evangelicals.
Because as Jesus said to Saul: it's tough for you to go against the goads, - same with Russia in 19th century before Red Revolution, when even famous classic Russian writer F. Dostoyevskiy participated in this travesty against Russian evangelicals, who have done zero evil to Russia, but only good.
You will find in this video a very important name of an extraordinary rich Russian gentry person, who came to God, became a born again person, and did lots of good of charity with it, proclaiming Biblical faith in Russia.
For which he was kicked out of Russia by these hotheaded zealot orthodox folks, including from the governmental structures of those days.

Many comments have mentioned that Tula is famous for its weapons manufacturing, but it’s also home to microphone manufacturing as well. It houses Oktava factory which produced many microphones used at USSR radio stations, and the production keeps going to this very day. Some engineers from Oktava some years ago started a new factory and are manufacturing Soyuz microphones which are very high end (and pricey, of course) - but this brand is pretty well recognised in the western sound recording scene

Tula holds one of the best weaponry museums in Russia IMO. Been there a couple years ago. Best 1000 rubles per adult person you can spend. Several floors of firearms of every kind, some naval rockets and six-barrel guns, special unit tools, prototypes, uniforms, russian military history on top (простите, Туляки. был проездом на пару дней буквально пришлось за пару часов пробежать четыре этажа, что крайне мало, поэтому познания мои посредственные).Kremlin's embankment of the river Upa, Kremlin and this particular museum are a must go to.

Have been on the highway that goes from Moscow to Black sea few times, and always stopped in Tula region next to small booths selling Tula gingerbreads. But, unfortunately, this highway doesnt go next to Tula itself, its far from town. I like gingerbreads a lot. But what we can buy in Moscow area are just standard small ones, shown by Svetlana. Plus round ones, packed in bags in dozens. I want bigger ones and fresh, and this is possible in Tula only.
