personally, this is my favorite Interpol song, I can't believe it isn't one of their more popular songs. To me, this song perfectly captures their uniquely dark coolness and signature sound. Along with PDA, Stella, Obstacle 1, Rest My Chemistry, All The Rage Back Home, No I in Threesome, Say Hello to the Angels etc.
At 2.30 Paul looks to his right because he noticed that Daniel's pick has fallen to the ground, at 2.43 Daniel bends masking a smile to retrieve the pick, at 2.55 Paul smiles rethinking the whole scene, at 2.60 Paul, still smiling, takes a last look at the ground to see if the pick has been recovered by Daniel. At 3.26 Paul, after the song, looks amused one last time Daniel to meet his gaze, as if he wanted to check his reaction to that funny accident. It's all so Interpol! One thing I did not understand: if Daniel, for that short time in which he was without the pick, continued to play with his fingers or simply pretended to play.
This song always reminded me of one of my good friends that I’ve known. That line “he always took the time to speak with me I liked him for that” made me always think of him :)

the thing is so beautiful in itself that there is no need for any explanation. But read this old comment of mine anyway gabby, because it enriches the beauty of the gesture and makes us understand the peculiarity of Interpol from the beginning: "At 2.30 Paul looks to his right because he noticed that Daniel's pick has fallen to the ground, at 2.43 Daniel bends masking a smile to retrieve the pick, at 2.55 Paul smiles rethinking the whole scene, at 2.60 Paul, still smiling, takes a last look at the ground to see if the pick has been recovered by Daniel. @@giannipaladini2929 I could never notice this. I guess that's because I really enjoy Interpol bass, and never focus on Daniel. But we could of course listen to some "mistakes" from the lead guitarist.
Perhaps I saw and read the wrong interviews- I was so shocked I put the phone down and finished getting ready- maybe it was because I never saw him physically before or seen their photos or interviews before my first show in 2006? New solo album& ep are just amazing- His passion is back- which is a relief. Diva or not- he is my favorite musician. I cant stand to see a person without any passion. He is redeemed in my eyes. I was wrong.
I heard this interview he had with a radio station and they asked if he was shocked that he was selling out madison square garden and he replied coldly 'well why should I be?' when I saw interpol perform on stage in atlanta for the second tour he was dressed casually while everyone else is dressed more formally like they used to. He still made me cry when he sung Take You on a Cruise as always- the performance was still powerful. It just seems like its gone to his head. His lyrics have lost s
I saw them in this very club tour in Philadelphia!. And looked just like this. The only difference is that there was no stage! They played at ground level.
I do believe he suffered inability to express himself freely. I had that problem when I used to work for other people teaching- feeling that way training all my life was enough- then I had to be under someone else's creative control all the time. It becomes so depressing monotonous and resentful. Resentful was actually what I saw in the Interview. Paul gave Interpol a soul- give me any Morrissey or Bunnymenesqe track any day- a sound's a sound- it takes raw emotion & passion to make it art.
I see what your saying that in the group dynamic of Interpol he doesnt feel the same freedom of the past records and he probably does let lose more during his solo periods now. Its sad how they do seem to have grown apart in the last album, they were the best and most original out there but I think they'll reconnect. That said Paul's solo stuff is quite magnificent, very personal, innovative and with a touch of whimsy I highly recommend to everyone both albums and to check it out live if you can

You got it 👌
Call anyone a diva but not Paul Banks... Saturday, he jumped on 3 amps to get off stage to give us autographs, he is the most amazing human being!
I love how Carlos seems so into it I wish he would've continued! 🎸

Awwww young Interpol - they were so cool. Still are - but great clip of them with stars in their eyes. I miss Carlos!

the old times when Carlos amused himself.
2:56 that beautiful smile and moment... something historic, when a band enjoys playing
The best part of the song
I think Paul was smiling at Daniel losing sound on his guitar for a bit, but yeah enjoying none the less
yay i noticed that tho
Frenetic song played
@2:55 I smile just like that when that part starts most awesome outro I've ever heard, well maybe tied up with the outro of PDA.

He definitely missed that whole section due to lack of pick. I myself, personally hold 3:16 in highest regard.
when you listen to early Interpol you breathe the speed and confusion of XXI century. their music is truly modern
Es joy...mal..esto..
I loved that venue. I once rolled there and screamed at people to get a friend laid. It worked out for no one.
I have to admit this sort of strategy hasn't worked for my friends either.
Clumsy Sandbocks
Lol
What venue is that?
Incredible song, incredible performance....fucking incredible!
carlos could've legit been in the misfits and interpol at that time and his hair would be ready for both
This song is singular, this band rocks, and I love watching this show.
at the beginning paul's voice sounded so enthusiastic about everything and full of life aww

There just isn't a band quite like them. Their songs all sound so different, can't tell if they're a rock band sometimes like with Our Love to Admire.
