MORE ABOUT US:
We met as Game Wardens in North Carolina and have moved across the country and world ever since. Living in North Carolina, Colorado, Washington, and now Guam, we are always outdoors and drinking beer. Nothing ever goes as planned here, but it doesn't stop us from trying. Fishing, hiking, off roading, skits, and more.
Superb review. Very detailed and unbiased. The best boat review I’ve seen. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the kind words ! We did the best we could on this review .
Great review. Looks like a great adventure boat. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Guys
Nice review on the Morningstar 498S.
I like how you guys give the value of the boat off the top.
Great looking boat with a solid hull.
Have a great day.
Cheers
Thank you for the kind words!

Well that was about as extensive and thorough a review of any watercraft that I have seen on CZcams!! Liked the style you did it in with separate segments for features and likes and then dislikes and future improvements. All in all this was a terrific review and I really hope someone from Morningstar Boats contacts you and perhaps would like to work with you on improving their product! As always my best to you both, and I look forward to your next episode! Take care guys!
Thank you for saying that . We tried to wait till we had lived with it long enough to give some honest pros and cons. It would be cool if they contacted us for sure !
Love the review, thanks! :) The positives and negatives you mentioned are both legitimate and here is some of the reasoning behind our current choices:
- Aluminium rivets vs Stainless steel screws: aluminium is too soft to be made into screws, so they have to be made from stainless steel. However, any metal that is not aluminium being in contact with the aluminium hull will cause galvanic corrosion issues, causing the metal to weaken and paint peeling off. We take care of that wherever possible by insulating stainless material with nylon gaskets and Tef-gel or similar in the factory. Once the boat is out of the factory though, a mechanic from the dealership or outboard engine mechanic doing servicing or installation can forget about this. In a few months time we will then get unhappy customers with paint issues or worse. That's why we currently stick with aluminium rivets. Similar issue can happen when people use copper-based anti-fouling paint on the aluminium boat bottom.
- Ladder: we have two types of ladders available for ordering, one is the aluminium ladder you have that is more suitable for scuba fins. The other is a 4-step telescopic stainless steel ladder that goes a lot deeper in the water.
- Drain plugs: we always send out extra ones to the dealers and you can ask them for replacement. We will send some over to you so you will have a life-long supply :) Unfortunately a standard size in one country may not be standard in another. Let us know which ones are easiest to find in your local marine store and we will take that into account. In an emergency you can also use the two drain plugs underneath the swimming platforms to replace the main one.
- Rod holder pin: that is bad design on our part and we are trying to find better alternatives. It is more difficult to solve than we initially thought since the gunwale is round (formed by hydraulic press and tooling) - while beautiful looking, it is not completely flat. That rules out most of the available choices on the accessories market. If you have a good recommendation for the rubber sleeve and rod holder, we will be happy to investigate and update our boats in the next iteration.
- Ski pole: Please message us on our Facebook page [Morningstar Boats] and we will arrange you a test unit :)
Love your channel and we watch every episode that's on the water :)
Thank you for the extraordinarily comprehensive response! We are honored to have the boat manufacturer watch our small channel.
For the rod holders, we just had a generalized idea of hard plastic or nylon as a barrier material (nothing specific). And as for the boat plug, perhaps the size isn’t the issue as much as just being able to replace it. It would be helpful to have easy access to getting another, be that with a part number to use for ordering online or picking up from a store. Based on our track record of losing these plugs, a life-long supply might be helpful 😂
We would love to test a ski pylon or anything else you might want tested in the future on these fun little boats! Look forward to speaking with you via Facebook :)
Kudos to Morningstar's response!!

I love that boat it would be perfect for me...great review you guys are very entertaining
It’s a great little boat in fresh and saltwater !
Excellent review - very thorough
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for the review, good info. 👍
Thanks for checking out the review!
Excellent review guys. Hopefully the manufacturer will take note of your review and make improvements.
They reached out to us directly and left a great comment on this video! Really nice, small company 😁 Thank you so much for watching!
The lure boxes in the pedestal looks convenient as well as a space saver
First time I’ve ever seen this boat I do a lot of boating on lake Saint Clair and the Saint Clair river which connects all the great lakes and we can have some pretty damn rough days due to high volume traffic of boaters and size of boats this boat looks like a perfect little boat to endure these type of fresh water choppy seas. Nice job on the video you guys.
We actually had this little boat on lake Powell which is probably a similar situation to yours on the saint clair . It handled great in all the big boat wakes and wind !
I'm obsessed with Walter!!!! Grumpy old men is our favorite. We named our dog Walter after him and Walt Disney 😊 we are in CT and just got an older aluminum boat w cuddy cabin ❤
really nice boat. thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching! 🍻
Sounds like it would be a challenge to put in a hydraulic steering system. Which I think you should upgrade to in the future. What an extensive review! Well done!
Maybe we will wait until it’s time to upgrade the motor from a 60 to a 90 , that’s gonna be a few years though 😂.
I love how he mentions taking a nice piss off the back , hahaha
OH, wow! What an excellent review. I'm sold! Suggestion 4 a name. Taotaomona/Mona, painted both rear/sides.
Thank you so much! That’s a great suggestion! She is the low key star of the channel...so it may be deserved.
Great review
Thank you so much 🙏!
Morningstar should have paid you for your excellent review of their boat! Love your vids from Guam. I could never visit your island since I'm very allergic to mosquito bites. ☹ So, I'll just enjoy everything you do there. Thanks! 🤗❤
Oh thank you so much! (Getting paid for it would be nice 😅) We love getting viewers from off island, so welcome 🍻🏝
Nice boat I wish we had this for us in Long Island NY .......
It’s a super fun little boat! There are a few stateside dealers now , but I don’t think any are close to Long Island . Thanks for watching , maybe we can convince morning star to expand their network .
I really appreciate this review. I love the simplicity, lightness, and maintenance of aluminium boats. Your review of use options inspires thoughts about future boats for me. Also, future mods to my 13' Alaskan. Our son really wants a welder for working on his car. Maybe there is a tow post in the future of our little boat. Our swim boarding ladder is a cam strap around the thwart brace. it doubles as the boat hold down on the trailer. As an old guy, I love the Pee pod option. I would consider adding them to my boat. But I would have absolutely buried the bow of my little boat in steep waves when crossing bars or reefs. Maybe I need a bigger boat. ;-) Too bad, I don't see any dealers listed in the US. Maybe I will rebuild an old starcraft. After I get done fixing my glass CC.

A+++ Great Vid.
I saw you guys today on Marine core drive today. I was so excited to see you Iin my truck I was there they are I see them and know them. Maybe one day we can meet I person.
Should have honked at us! Our trucks horn doesn’t work but we would’ve waved back 🤣
@@CandEAdventures I was going to but it was a long day and you guys caught me off guard. I was driving and saw the boat and was like huh that reminds me of that couple on CZcams I saw then I looked at the driver and saw the dude and then you and was like oh shit it is them but by the time it clicked we already passed by then I did have that thought of I wonder if I honked would they have known lol.
No worries , we are always circling around the island 🏝
March 2024 36k views #dolphins 6 min mark great review of course
We do have rear post for water slide activity. I wish comment section here on CZcams allows viewer to attach reference picture.
There is so much storage!
So much storage for a little 16 footer 😄

I hope someone from Morningstar watches and makes use of your constructive criticism - especially about making the plug standard!

great review. which dealership did you guys go through. pls send contacts on the dealership
Decent bang for the buck
Nice
Thank you for watching!
Always just keep posting lol
I am curious about your fuel consumption on this boat, any idea how many hours of runtime you get on a tank (15 gallons)?
Do you guys still own the boat? How is it holding up? Any issues with the build quality?
JUST WOKE UP
Good morning, sunshine! Thanks for watching 🌞 😃
I miss Guam,Lived there for 26 years, you guys from Merizo? Is that Cetti Bay?

Where's a good place to research what options there are from lots of manufacturers when considering buying a cheaper boat like this overseas?
If someone wanted to live on it. What saltwater maintenance would I do?
In florida I see people keeping there small cuddy boats at the harbor all year round.
This is really small to live on. You would have to curl up in a ball under the cuddy to sleep if that's what you're thinking. Motor maintenance for saltwater would be about it. The hull is aluminum, so it shouldn't rust. But the small fasteners on the seats may rust/degrade over time. We've exclusively used it in saltwater and have had 0 issues
@@CandEAdventures thank you. Sorry I should of word it better. I mean if someone wanted to live on a small cabin cruiser boat. They would need to just worry about engine?
How many lifeboats come with it? Any iceburg detection systems?
We use a hard sided igloo cooler which is basically a Home Depot lifeboat . Not sure about ice berg detection , by the time we see one coming from Guam we will have long since starved to death or the second coming will be at hand 🤣 🧊 🏝 🐴 🐴 🐴 🐴 🌋 🛳
@@CandEAdventures Hahaha. As long as you're prepared. 🤣🤣 but the really question is what's the boats name? All boats have to have a name!
@@imaduckylover if you are familiar with the CZcamsr Ed bass master , he does a character called mumbles. The only word people can understand from this character is “bartle doo”. It’s like a universal word that everyone understands in the skits but at the same time no one knows what it means. So we named her the bartle doo 🤣🚤
Can these be imported into the USA
this fits in guarhe
Looking to buy this exact boat on Guam. Any tips??? I researched à little but seems used are same price as new.
Can't think of any tips. If you are as spacey as we are, maybe get a couple extra boat plugs because we have lost 2 so far and they aren't universal lol
biy it new
What about the livewell??? Isn't there a livewell on this boat?
Hey there! There are livewell options for these boats. Our dealership did not order that option from the manufacturer, but it would be in the back bench area.
Gorgeous boat. I am planning order exactly same boat. Please Share what is the exact dimension of boat fishing area? From front seat back part to end of aft seat folded; and gunnel to gunnel inner sides. BTW this is my 10th time i think watching ur vid.
Hey there! From the back of the front seat to the front edge of the bench is 38 inches, and to the back of the bench seat is about 55 inches. From gunnel to gunnel is approximately 66 inches. Glad to hear this has helped you with any decisions for a boat purchase! We’ve got lots of other videos featuring this boat as well :)
buy it
I never knew That you liked Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
Of course that song is a banger !!
they don't use stainless screws to minimise electrolysis from dissimilar metals full aluminium pop rivets is the preferred method
Wring
Chris how can I aquire a boat like yours? is it through a dealer in Guam?
We got our boat at Coral Reef marine in Guam. I believe there are a couple dealers stateside that sell Morningstar boats as well. I know there is one in Oregon.
@@CandEAdventures I live in Saipan CNMI. Just wondering If I could get one from Guam. Would it be cheaper from stateside with shipping or just get one from Guam?. I'll get a hold of CRM Guam as well. Thanks and keep up with the great videos! more views and thumbs up coming your way!

So i like the price
However
Why would you buy a cuddy thats not really a cuddy
Its just a place for one person to sit fown
Theres no sleeper v berth
Why
Why would yhey make va cuddy that teo people vant sleep in it
Theres no v berth
But Canellad aluminum boats have no cuddy and are 18 feet with a 115 hp outboard for an indane 70 k
They need toake a real cuddy cabin two people can actually sleep in
This boat has a great price
But its a disappointment disappointing
This small boats Cuddy is more to keep stuff dry in rough seas . It’s not for sleeping . Keeps your cooler in the shade and water out of the boat trolling in bad weather. It’s not marketed as a place to sleep. It’s way too small of a boat for that.
@@CandEAdventures yes it's way too small to be a cuddy
It's storage ok
So why call it a cuddy
It's not
I thought I was going to see a V berth for sleeping in
That boat could have easily been designed for a sleeper
It's long enough
Now the good part is the price
Compared to other Aluminum boats like it
They are asking 70k
So that's good
@@stephenpersic9474 I'm not too sure if you have your definitions right but, that is a typical cuddy cabin in a smallish boat mate, cuddy cabins are NOT designed to sleep in in a boat that size, a half cabin you could. The term “cuddy” has been around for hundreds of years and originally meant a small room or cupboard. If you want a boat with a cuddy cabin specifically to sleep in , you'd be better off buying something 6 metres {18 foot plus} and over... I grew up on the water and my father managed a boat company from the mid 1960's to the 1980's, I ve also worked on professional fishing boats and am an avid , life long fisherman, I've owned and been in just about every type of boat designed, from typical mono hulls to Catamaran , cathedral style and multi hull boats....
