I can blame "I have a bad past" to excuse acting erratic while having a gun in hand, or close to where I can get it whenever I want? Just because he's "trying to rationalize" what he did does not mean what he did isn't wrong. You shouldn't give him an ounce of sympathy, instead tell him to fix himself then and not hurt other people.

If you were an alcoholic and blamed being one for the pain you bring to others, I would believe that there are steps you could take in the right direction for you to healthily overcome your addiction and redeem yourself. I feel like no matter what he said you would still throw word shuriken at his visage. You acknowledge that he did bad, but is he just doomed now? Should he go yeet himself in front of a fast moving truck? I don't think so. Not everyone is manipulative and everyone is multifaceted. Sometimes apologies are sincere. You don't have to accept his but you should at the very least understand that he isn't using those words to justify current actions like your analogy. In your analogy you use present tense with words like abuse instead of abused or acting instead of acted. He isn't a hypocrite yet, if he were to continue being a rat phucker after saying this then everything I've said would be moot and you would be aligned with my sentiment exactly. What he did IS WRONG. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT. He owned up to it in the best way using logocentrism and language that he could. You don't get to tell me where to put my sympathy, but I could guess you might need some of mine since you have none for him. I can sympathize because I understand addiction. You can't maybe because you've been hurt by it. I'll hazard to guess your idea of a mistake is like "damn I forgot the jelly". People aren't radios, nobody is broken unless they are hopeless. It doesn’t sound like he’s blaming the alcohol, it sounds like he’s taking responsibility for abusing alcohol to the point that it makes him abusive towards others.

Addiction and alcoholism can lead you to do many bad things and it is a severe mental illness but we are still responsible for our actions. Once you clean up most people don't really have a reason to do anything bad anymore...unless they are just a bad person or have other mental illnesses going on. I hope that makes sense

Listen man, as an alcoholic, we drink to cope. Even when we're mad, and that's when things get bad. It takes away all of our restraints and we then act on how we feel. If we manage to quit drinking, we will be happier and we won't do bad things. I've never done anything super bad while sober.
I can't see him blame it on the alcohol. He is giving context to the situation while clearly stating that he is hurting those around him. This honesty is rare and the first step to change. You really shouldn't be twisting someones words like that. It makes you look bad

I'd suggest everyone watch his interview with Jon Bernthal. He's says now he is trying to change for the better. He got back together with his wife and they now have a daughter. He's trying to make a new life for himself. I realize we live in a world full of judging others for their past behavior. And yes, he has make many mistakes over the years. However, imo, we all deserve a chance to rebuild our lives. I think we should give him a chance and see how he does for the next few years. Hopefully, everything will get better for all involved.🙏

As someone in recovery for various substances, I can say addiction can completely change who you are as a person. You do things you normally wouldn't do when using. Apart of recovery is taking accountability for your actions and making amends. Idk the whole situation but as long as he's remorseful and making things right that's at least somewhat redeemable

This is a bit misleading. He has denied the "sexual battery" charges, and has admitted to the battery and alcoholism. You literally skip over how he says that nothing he did was related to sex or sexual in nature. I'm not saying I immediately believe him, innocent until proven guilty I guess, but you can't just do that.

I was a really bad alcoholic and fentanyl/amphetamine addict. My disease caused me to act in horrendous ways to get the next drink/drug, but all of my actions were my own doing. While I did not abuse people, I sure as shit was an asshole to everyone around me, and I take full responsibility for what I did in my addiction. Disappointing that he cannot do the same.

I’m actually friends with him in passing. He hangs out at a spot that I won’t mention but I’ve had many convos with him. He’s a very damaged person but is actively attempting to change. No drugs, no alcohol.
