When we went from Fort Lewis to Nuremberg Germany, in 1971, our stuff set outside a train station for months before they got it to us all of our pictures, slides, and everything was completely ruined. Most of our clothing was also destroyed,Everything had been ruined by the rain. The boxes were literally dripping with water as the movers brought them in my mom was pregnant with my brother at that time and nearly had the baby right there She was so upset!

Hey! It’s always exciting connecting with more Brits ❤ I hope your PCS to the States goes well. 8 years ago we PCS’d from the UK to South Carolina and it was certainly an adjustment!! Germany has been amazing so far, I’m so happy to be close to home for a few years and extra bonus, our base has a British store so I can stock up on my home favs! 🥰 our kids are magic star and quaver obsessed 🤣

    First off: welcome to Germany.
Even though those bats were a surprise I would gather that it/they was/were faaar more scared of the humans than you were of it/them. None of the bats in Germany are dangerous in any way, shape or form of themselves. Maybe the attic roof shingles aren't very tight and the bats found shelter up there, and the bats literally crawled through the woodwork into that room. The number of rabies cases in Germany is exceptionally low, no matter which species of animals. Forestry services keep a very keen eye on the cases and go around vaccinating as many animals if even one case is reported in a district. Any updates on the status of any of them?
Several decades ago we once had a bat fly in through our large moveable windows into our living room. It was soooo scared when it landed on our wall and clung to it. We could see it shiver in fear. We covered it with a towel and took it off the wall. It slowly calmed down and we were able to give it some very, very delicate strokes along its back. It's fur was sooo incredibly soft. Way, way softer than even the smoothest cat fur I've ever had the pleasure of petting. Then we carried it outside and placed it on an outside wall from where it took off. That was the one and only time we had a close encounter of the third kind with bats. 😁 But we are certain that under our flue shingles of one chimney we definitely have a small colony of bats. We often sit on our terrace porch and watch them take off during the sunset times.
When I saw the damage on your furniture I was shocked. What the heck did they do with that container?!? Use it in a slingshot experiment or what?!?
How could someone break of the pretty solid legs on a table like that?!? Incredible. 😯😯
From the mug I assume you're somewhere in the Ramstein base area? I hope you'll have a great time.
Once you've settled in take some time and explore first around the base, then further into Germany. I am pretty sure you'll come to love it here.
If you need some tips and other videos to watch for life in Germany here's a list of very good YT channels:
    Simple Germany
    My Merry Messy Life
    The Black Forest Family
    Passport Two
    Our Story To Tell
All of them expats living in Germany. The list could be extended by quite a few more entries but these will suffice for the start.
The algorithm is going to keep you

I agree! They were probably just as scared as our baby girl was. Hopefully the bats found a new home too.

Hi! It was certainly not ideal haha!
Oh wow, we absolutely love Germany and hope you will too.
Besides the car seat on the plane and using air tags, - we always take our little ones fav toys away a few days before flying so they’re excited to see them on the plane. Water-wow books are a travelling essential for us, along with stickers!! If you haven’t already started the no-fee passport or EFMP process, start asap as they both can be a hassle!
Make sure the movers wrap your rugs in plastic - all of ours we’re completely destroyed in the humidity on the ship!
The bases here have so many activities for young children like Storytime at the library, gymnastics classes and playgroups so definitely take advantage of those when you arrive! Don’t forget you’re entitled to 20 hours of free care with an FCC provider for your little one while you move!

@@RebekahSchwartz-nx4xw also! It’s worth taking the driving test before arriving! It can all be done online then you take your certificate in to collect your license. You’re too jet lagged and tired to do the online studying and test when you first arrive

How do you begin your search to see what part of Germany you would like to move it? Is it cheaper to sell all furniture then buy new once there? So many questions. The states are getting pretty dicey to live in and would like to move out.

    • @FowlerFamAdventures
      @FowlerFamAdventures  Před rokem +1

We moved where work was so we didn't have much of a say on where we were moving. We are so happy to be in Germany and start exploring. Most of the broken furniture we had was replaced with other used furniture that we found on the economy. Nothing too fancy!

Hey guys, welcome to Germany. I am sorry for an unpleasant start with bats and I thought you may have been landed downunder and not here. Do you stay in a military area or in a german community ? Hope your oldest daughter will find friends soon(which is hard with germans anyway) to feel good being here. Dont get to much shocked regarding differences in Germany but accept them and dive into your adventure. Lots of other americans managed to live here and when you are open enough you will enjoy it too. Fight against your first hurdle which is the language. If you show up willing to learn german this will be a key opener for most of the grumpy stubburn germans 😀Stay safe and healthy.

"grumpy stubburn germans" ? Being reserved doesn't mean you are grumpy. Finding friends is hard everywhere; a friendship is based on common interests and mutual trust; it's a thing that needs its time

We’re in a military community but we’re getting out and exploring lots of Germany. Everyone has been so kind and friendly, I don’t think we’ll want to leave when the time comes. Thanks so much for watching our videos 🥰
