More than a feeling has to be a top 100 classic rock song, I would almost bet anything. Boston seems to be a heavy hitter, any other songs I should react to?

#MoreThanAFeeling #Boston #Reaction - Zábava
I was just thinking, a lot of you reacters are learning why we old fogeys talk like all the good music was done in the 70s and 80s. No autotune, no computer shenanigans, just pure talent on all fronts.
I can't love this enough!
Dudette, I was born in '62 and had a Mark Twain childhood. I'm talking pond, rope swing, ice skating, fishing, catching frogs etc. Such good times. Oh, and you forgot they told a story. Maybe they do now, but I can't decipher it.
Sonically PURE is what Boston is.
Rick Beato has a fantastic vid on this song called "What Makes This Song Great" (he has others as well). He isolates Brad Delp's voice to prove it's a real voice with NO help or remastering.
In my eyes (10yo in '76), Boston was the pinnacle for me.....and then Van Halen hit the scene!
@@VadersRage Oh yes....Beato's vid is EXTREMELY good.
Because it was.
3:29 "I would be interested to hear him sing this live to see what that sounds like live without being mastered."
It sounded identical... I saw Boston live several times.
Amazing that bands with that one ingredient called "talent" sound the same as the studio.
It really depended on when you saw them in the tour cycle. There are a lot of videos of Brad pulling back, sounding rough, playing safe. They lost a bit when not in the studio.
@@OneVoiceMore I saw them in 1977 in a smaller indoor arena and it was absolutely fantastic. Loud as hell with a great mix and his vocals were spot on and the harmonies were all perfect. It almost felt Heavenly feeling it just bounce around that arena in a haze of pot smoke and cigarettes, laugh.
saw them at worcester centrum for the third stage tour...thought they sounded great
i think they did 10 shows there that year
Agreed!saw them once myself and they were incredible!
I can’t explain to you how amazing it was to be young in the 70’s. The music was incredible and you were allowed to just be a kid and be free man
I’m envious
Sixties and seventies for me. Today’s music just cannot compare.
Yes!! I was a kid in the 70s and I miss the freedom of it. Everything was imo better. Even without technology like we have today.
Yep, it's was a time of innocent that the people today don't have. I feel sorry for the young people of today.
I was born in '72 and listened to all of thes greats when they were releasing albums thanks to my siblings. They are 6, 11 and 13 years older than me. I can't imagine not having this music in my life, it's so ingrained in it.
My generation grew up with the best music in the world! Glad to see you younger generations appreciating it now. More Boston please! 👍❤
Everybody jaming and loving a 50 year old song and everything you hear today won't last 6 months...a damn shame there is no good music anymore.
Es reicht mir völlig, dass unsere Musik überlebt hat ❤die heutige Generation hat auf der ganzen Linie versagt.ob sie das wirklich so wollten?🤷♀️
Brad Delp on vocals. This entire album is at least this good, every song was a hit. This album stood out at the time and still does. You could say it’s genre defining and iconic. It’s also brilliant. When you find out how this album was made it will blow your mind.
It’s Delp
@@joshuadeshaies7106 Yes. Spellcheck strikes again. Thanks.
Still have my album!!
I was driving in the truck from Maine to NYC decades ago when I heard an interview on the radio about music. I believe it was Tom Scholz. I was captivated by what I heard.
Its an amazing story and the absolute genius of it all, Jesus. When Tom Sholtz could find the right sound with the equipment available he invented and built it himself. This is one of the rare "perfect" debut albums, followed in 1987 by Guns and Roses.
Brad Delp is on vocals. One of the greatest voices of all time.
Yes he was! Incredible Vocalist!!!!
InCREDIBLE💯
In my opinion - he is the greatest. But I realise it is subjective. Top 3 on most people's list.
The greatest
Best show I’ve EVER seen live…no smoke, lasers, fancy lighting…just pure ability!
Definitely the Top 100, but I would put it in the top 10. There is nothing like it. Brad Delp's vocals are nothing short of spectacular; the way he trades off notes between his voice and guitar and back! This is one of the six songs I would have to have on a deserted island for my very survival.
There will never ever be another Brad Delp. Not only was his voice from another stratosphere, he was known as the nicest guy in rock & roll. RIP dear Brad - you are sorely missed.💔
Heard him live and can assure you he's that good live.
Every song on the first album is great. Foreplay/Long Time will blow your mind.
It's in a rare crowd. Probably a handful in it.
I was born in 1961, and lived through arguably the best time in modern music history. Boston, Styx, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc ....
When we tell younger generations that their music isn't as good as when we were growing up - well, we're right. Sorry. lol
😂, LOVE your comment!! So true! Born in’63👍
100% TRUTH! I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Going to concerts and getting up for school the next day on no sleep was living lol. Without having to drink a Monster or other aids. Just pure energy and loving life and living life. So many great memories! The youth, for decades are Debbie downers.
Agree, born in 1960….
I was lucky to be around in the 70's. Best music, Best Cars, Best Hair.
Best movies too.
Best girls.
Absolutely!
I second that!
Rest in peace Brad Delp your voice was bigger than life!
To answer your question about hearing Brad sing live: I was in the Omni in Atlanta when Boston came to town in 1976. I heard him live. I was 8 rows back, center and the man was absolutely cosmic. At Such a gift. Beginning at At 5:28 of your video, he goes up to a D5 and when you think that's all there is, cranks it to an E5 -- With power to spare! And he's so high, it sounds like a guitar, but it's the man's actual voice! He had a four and a half octave range. Sadly we lost him in 2007, but his voice will live forever in these recordings.
This is considered one of the top debut albums in rock history. Boston came in HUGE and everybody had this album or cassette. As I understand it, Tom Sholz played ALL the instruments on it except the drums. He then formed the band so he could tour it. What an effing genius…top playing of all instruments. Whole album is outstanding, Sal, and deserves a listen. You just hit classic rock gold with this one. BTW…the flying saucer on the album cover is really a guitar….
Yeah I remember the trending belief that they'd never be able to tour because of there being _no band_ to speak of. Hogwash, said Tom Sholz. And if I also remember correctly, this was first out on 8-Track before cassettes even existed? I know we wore out the 8-Track in my brothers VW Beetle!
@@MoMoMyPup10 I heard this on 8-track to. I recorded my album on cassette to play in the car on this cheap after-market unit. Cassettes in car stereo did exist from 1970 on. 8-tracks started in '65 and were fully in use before cassettes showed up, but by the mid seventies (when this album came out) many new cars came with cassette players installed. My thinking is it took a years for the cars and 8-tracks that were in them, to meet the junk yard. Love your post. Good story!
Like others have said, try 8-track. That's what we first bought this on...and somewhere in my garage I still have mine (player and Boston 8-track tape). I truly believe this is in the top 5 of debut releases all-time. Every track made it on the radio and on the charts. (Not talking about "The Greatest Hits" which SalvoG played it from, talking about their debut LP "Boston")
Tom Sholtz recorded this in his basement, playing all the instruments except drums and vocals. He was some sort of computer engineer, but with an amazing musical bent. From my hometown, and quite proud of him!
Tom has a master's degree and a bachelors degree from MIT in electrical engineering.
Tom invented his own amplifiers and sold them to other musicians.
He literally invented their guitar sound. The distortion and chorus were created by Tom
Scholtz actually started his own company to sell the Rockman brand of guitar effects devices
This is why I smiled when he said, "It's not too technical..."
Foreplay/longtime is awesome
Rick Beato, on his YT channel, breaks this down thoroughly in his "What makes this song great" series. This particular video of his is spectacular, and the whole series is worthwhile.
Agree. There is not a single note, a single tone, or a single effect that Tom did not put there intentionally. IMO it's the most perfectly engineered rock song ever.
Beato said Brad Dell’s vocals were superhuman. I totally agree with that.
Watched Beato’s analysis on it twice. When he isolates Delp’s voice on that high note it’s mind boggling! My all time favourite tune❤
Also a huge fan of the education Beato provides, and his breakdown of this song was FASCINATING.
The late, great Brad Delp. And, yes, he sounded that good live. The whole band is amazing
I was deployed when this song was on the hit parade, it brings back so many memories of that time during the bush war.
I heard this song live in 1978 on the tour for their second album, "Don't Look Back" and it sounded like what you just heard only BIGGER! It was my first concert ever and it will be with me until I die! I have counted Boston among my favorite groups for 44 years and don't see that changing.
58 years old and I still listen to Boston ALL the time. Don’t have a favorite song, love them all. And my 22 year old son with autism loves them too.
I bought this album weeks after it was released and it still blows me away. Brad Delps vocals were simply amazing! R.I.P.
That is my favorite Boston song!!! It rocks!!!!!
The guitars fly into space. After all these years it still crushes it. Yes Tom sholtz the brains behind BOSTON had a cousin Marianne . He had his first crush and when she moved away he couldn't forget about her and made a song that eventually got on to his masterpiece the debut BOSTON record. I don't think there'll ever be another multitalented player and composer like TOM.
Riding in my friend's car to lunch as a junior in high school in 1976. Over his car's cassette player he said "listen to this new band" and this song came up. I was hooked.
Nice reaction to Boston. Literally NOTHING prepares you for the first time you hear this band.
This is one of the few songs in Rock history that if it were re-released today would go to #1 in a week. Most young people have no clue who Boston is or was. It’s as fresh and amazing today as it was in the 70s. There’s just something timeless about “More than a Feeling”. I can’t explain it. The story of Tommy Schultz MIT engineer, and Brad Delp lead vocalist is fascinating. Tommy recorded most of the album in his basement. He even designed and created mixing machines and sound boards from scratch. They were years ahead of their time. Yet are not in the Rock and Roll HOF. That is a crime.
That moment when voice turns into guitar, and you realize you have no fucking clue exactly when that happened! I love it! ;-]
😂😂😂
Boot Camp, 1976, and my DI had his radio on and I am supposed to be listening to every word at attention and this song came on... ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION TO ME??? Sir, no sir. What is that group, sir? Who is that, sir? An hour of bends and thrusts that night, and every minute was worth it! I had never heard anything like that.
Boston is the greatest band on the planet!!!!
Thank you for jamming Boston. You might want to check out. Let me take you home tonight. It's a great song.😅 Love your show. Thank you so much, you rock.❤
When this album came out it was so different in sound and vocals in rock music. Us 60's kid were blown away.
Foreplay/Long Time is on another level…..some prog in there. Smoking’ is just balls out banger….it never lets up.
Please please please listen to Boston's whole self titled debut! It's truly outstanding
That build up to the final chorus is, for me, one of the most joyous moments in rock history. An extraordinary song that deserves all the love it gets. And yes, as others have said, he can sing that flawlessly live. The entire album is incredible, but this song is the one that lingers in the mind for me.
OMG!!! I envy you! Boston’s legendary debut album (1976) is one of the biggest selling debut albums of ALL TIME: 17-18 million copies sold. Every freakin’ song on this monster album was a hit - and most were HUGE hits. They came out of nowhere and blew the planet apart just like their debut album cover art shows. Just listen to their first album beginning to end - and keep in mind it’s a DEBUT album! Their 2nd album was almost as good (7 million sold) - but it’s hard to duplicate the stunning impact of that first album. You have a lot to look forward to!
Truth 😎
As a teenager I remember this song very well and was only 16 then I'm 60 now and still absolutely love the song
Once you hear boston you will be hooked for life
"That was nothing to play with, right there!" You're damn right it wasn't!!! Fricking incredible song. I was in 6th or 7th grade when this came out and was mesmerized by it.
R.I.P. Bradley Edward Delp
You say live & trust me when I say, these are the bands I grew up with and they are phenomenal live!! One of the best concerts!!!! 💕✌🏼🎶
I remember exactly the first time I heard this- it was my sophomore year in high school, I was on a band bus coming back from an out of town game, and Kenny Galbraith (tuba player) had a boom box playing this... I walked back to him and said "What is this tape??" "Boston"... "Who is it??" "Boston"... "Oh...damn..."
I was a teen in the 90s and the classic rock station was always on when in the car with my parents so I got to know all the hits from before my time. Boston always stood out to me. Their sound was just incredible. The harmonized guitar solos in particular just blew me away. It was really hearing these kinds of songs that made my brain crave the more dissonant sound that was 90s alt/grunge/rock. To me growing up at that time the sound the 90s brought felt exactly like what should have come next. It's all superb. I think music today offers so much choice and sheer volume that what's played on the radio is only what companies know will make the most possible money and finding a sound you want is buried under an absolute overwhelming buffet of sounds. The music you seek is out there, yet ironically in the age of easy access it became harder to find and has to compete with so much more available content.
Loving this channel so much-and especially seeing young ppl are appreciating older music ❤
This song is the first track on their debut album. That album went Gold in 3 months after release in 1976; needless to say, it was massively popular, and for good reason. There are 8 tracks on the album and every one of them are outstanding & all got extensive radio play. It held the record for highest selling debut album for eight years. For 1976 it was actually groundbreaking. Nobody had heard anything like it, because the founder of the band, Tom Scholz, is an M.I.T.-trained engineer and built his own custom guitar pedals. Also on this album are "Foreplay /Long Time" and "Hitch a Ride", which IMO are even better than "More Than a Feeling".
He passed in 2007! It would be lovely to hear him again! I feel sorry for you younger generation, the 70’s and 80’s had the best music Ever!
LOL being number 1 This was and still is the greatest Rock Song ever written and sang. This song they wanted to sing live the same way they recorded it and you can hear me coming from a mile away from my truck or Hog when this song is playing.
Lead singer was incredible. Absolute top shelf rock voice. He was a Beatles nut and fronted a tribute Beatles band for years before killing himself in 2007. He died in New Hampshire. Very sad end for such a talent and reportedly great guy.
I bought BOSTON THE DAY IT HIT THE STORE AND STILL LISTEN TILL THIS DAY ,It’s addictive believe me .
So many times..i don't know how many but definitely over 1 million times I've heard & listened to this song & this Boston album.
Salvo. I was born in 1957.I witnessed the best music ever made.70s and 80s.
To answer your question, yes. He can sing this in concert. I saw them and it was absolutely great.
And the song is blast to play on guitar.
Brad Delp's voice. Beauty through the stratosphere.
I often play this song whilst driving and loud too!! Just love it, I am a 70's teen so these songs have wonderful memories for me. Thank you for the memories.
I can't imagine going through life never having heard this song. 💖🏵️♥️🍁🥀🌷🌷💓🌹💜
Now imagine being 13 years old in 1976 and hearing it for the first time. And waiting for the local TG&Y to get the record it was the best debut album of all time. Listen to the first album all of the songs are great
I've got a limited edition Picture Disc of this album. Played it only once to tape it in 1976. Then played the hell out of the tape for the last 47 years. As others have said a 10/10 first album. Pure talent back then. No electronic trickery at all.
Look up "classic rock" in the dictionary and it has a picture of Boston. Not just iconic, they were magical.
The song was written by the bandleader, Tom Scholz. Maryanne was a real person, a cousin of his who he had a crush on as a kid.
I was fortunate to see them live twice...1978 and 2001 in Toronto. My all time favorite band. Brad Delp the lead singer was so talented, he took his own life a few years ago. I wept...
Our band started in the Boston area in 1976. I will never forget us surrounding the record player and hearing this for the first time. Our mouths were hanging open looking at each other!! It changed us as a band and pushed us to create. We tried to play this at the reception of a wedding, and couldn't do it justice. Thank you forever, Boston.
I rarely hear this song on the radio because I pretty much stopped listening to the radio; getting older I guess and changing but I do remember when I was in my 20's and I would hear it on the car radio and I'd roll down the windows and crank it up and jam out!!! Good memories.
It's more than a feeling - pure talent
I saw Boston live in Hawaii when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor in the mid 1970’s! They were great live.
I'm glad you liked it so much. If you do a bit of research, you'll realize just how technical every song Boston did. Im not trying to sound like a condescending jerk, I promise!😂
This IS my favorite Boston song. This song and Hotel California always makes me think of summer. In the 70s and 80s, people played their radios at the beach, at a level that didn't disturb others, but could still be heard when you walked along and passed someone's set up. These two songs always seemed to be playing.
Same with amusement parks, which used to play music on the PA system.
This song always puts me in a good mood, and makes me think of sunshine, tanning lotion, rollercoasters, and hanging out. If my life had a soundtrack, it would be More Than a Feelin'. 😊
Hearing it once and you think "I like that". Hear it 1000 times and it becomes part of your being. The amount of "tech" that went into these master tapes was limited since it was mostly done in 1975 and 1976. I can't imagine the number of man hours it took to get just the right sound. When they finally signed with a record company they said they would take his masters and remaster them. Tom said you will use them just like they are.
The reason for them being so good…they all went to Juilliard. They sounded like exactly like this live. They actually traveled with a real pipe organ.
Marianne was the love interest of the song writer.when he told her about his feelings for her, she stood up and walked away. He was 10 and she was his 16 yr old cousin.
This brings me back to my childhood, my parents loved Boston
It's hard to get how all the reaction people have never heard these old songs. I know most of them were not even born yet but I grew up listening to my mom's 45s of artists that were big before I was born. Mom loved music and played those old records all the time.
The most perfect debut LP in RnR history!
This is WHY we love our songs and they continue on. We didn't know they would because no other generation has the legends like we did. We were blessed with friends and music. Great times.
Thank you, SalvoG! Greatly enjoying your reactions to all the incredible music I grew up with in the 70s! It took real talent and real musicians to create these timeless gems, which is (sadly) so lacking in today's music.
They sounded just as good live as they did on the record. People could really sing in the 70’s.
This song has always been incredible. Bought the album the first time I heard it on WORC AM in college. Now, 46 years years later, you listen to it and realize that you're living it. Phenomenally meta experience.
Brad Delp should be on everyone's top vocalist list. He made it sound that way live, no studio needed. It was unreal. Go back and listen again - his voice and the guitar are harmonizing on the high notes.
Mr Delp harmonizes with the guitar on that high note,,,,💥💥💥👍😳
I’ve been a little obsessed with this song in the last 2 years. I grew up hearing this music, this type of music, and yes I’ve heard this song hundreds of times. But it was only a couple of years ago that I realized the name of the girl was the same as mine. So now I listen to it and imagine I was the girl that got away… ( yes I know he was singing about his cousin that he had a crush on)
The lead singer had a very clear voice. He even sang Barbershop
Try their song,
Foreplay/ Long time. It's my favorite on this album.
I love when the keyboard comes in (solo) on the bass notes in Foreplay - I could listen to that part all day long.
Favorite song of theirs. So good. They can sing!
Zeppelin
PENTATONIX
and now, BOSTON!
SAL, YOU'RE KILLIN IT! 🤣
BOSTON is not just music....it's an EXPERIENCE!
You really need to hear this to appreciate just how good Delp was. This is Rick Beato's breakdown of this song, and he isolates Delp and the guitar on that final high note. It's breathtaking. czcams.com/video/ynFNt4tgBJ0/video.html
Absolutely one of the best songs of the era, brings back a lot memories.
what a gift to hear this for the first time
You should definitely watch this live - they were a superior concert band! Classic Rock is the Best - keep exploring!
Ahh...yes. Nostalgia. My High School years. We all had our own Marianne.
I saw them live in the 80s. Pure perfection
The entire debut album is fantastic. To me, it sounds just as good and exciting as it did the first time I heard it in the late 70’s as a kid.
I introduced one of my best friends to this group in high school in the 80’s. That cassette never came out of his cassette player. Ever.
I'd say it's in the top 20 "rock" songs. Top 20 of the decade for sure.
Every time I hear this song, it's immediately summertime in the early 80s, I'm riding my Big Wheel up and down the street and some teenager in striped tube socks is washing the family station wagon in the driveway.
I remember when this album came out......boston is one of my favorite bands of that time.......very good music they produced! if you really wanna hear a good representation of what they are all about I suggest you hear "Don't Look Back" or "Smokin'" both are really great bangers!
I've ehard this song numerous times. Hadn't heard it in awhile. Almost forgot how great "More Than A Felling'" is. So much fun watching you hear it for the first time ..... crazy fun ! ~ So many young people like you are discovering my younger years. It is heart warming to see you appreciate this song as I have for many years. . New eyes for me, Thank you. Jesse, 72 years old. : ) Peace, love.
The whole album is amazing, but this is my favorite song. Brings me back to when I was a teenager listening to this.
Greatest debut album ever!!!!
Boston's debut album(released august 26,1976) was the biggest selling debut of all time until gnr's debut. The album has sold over 18 million copies.
I had a Quadraphonic stereo in my car ( had headers and glass packs, so it had to be loud) and listened to this album on my old 8 track.
We were a lot more bad ass than our grey hair shows.
I must ass to all these wonderful comments, that we had this album on 8-track tape!! Jammed to it in car on way to high school.
The production on this album was so incredibly well done, that we used to use it to set our car audio settings. It was so bright and clear, it made it easy. Yeah, I'd put this song and album up as top 100 all time. Most lists have it somewhere in there. Closer to top 20 on most.
Not bad for a guys basement 🙂
@@bobwarfield3621 Tom Scholz is what happens when an MIT-Engineer just so happens to love music. And we're all thankful for it!
@@bobwarfield3621 No ordinary basement, let me tell you! LOL! Tom built the perfect technical work place to produce this kind of futuristic album, full of electronic marvels based on his first rate understanding of electrical engineering and acoustics. I saw a picture of it once and Tom must have had bottomless pockets to buy and build everything he did. And a brain to match! 💘🎸👌
