- In this video, I tell you about 5 symptoms of a bad car battery. If you see a few of these symptoms together, or even one symptom as a dominant one, you should look into the condition of your car battery because it might need to be replaced soon. The goal of looking into these symptoms is to be able to replace your car battery when it is getting weak, but before it actually leaves you stranded on the road.

Additional symptoms.
1. Meter panel lights flickering, sometimes very obvious sometimes you have to look closer.
2. Aircond goes slower for 1 or 2 seconds and then goes back to normal.
3. Steering locks when you are turning right or left. Since newer models these days are using EPS, any small battery issue will make the steering go crazy.
Hopefully these helps others out there. 🙂👍
Went through this in my car, Honda City year 2016.
I got a 2006 GMC Yukon, still looks good engines clean she runs great, but last night I noticed that when I hit the switch to let my windows up or down, my headlights kind of went down a little bit everytime I hit the button, when I let the button go they would brighten back up, they wouldn't go out, they would just dim
My rpm counter didn't start immediately. This symptom disappeared immediately after battery replacement.
My steering locked
I have 3 year 4 month old dry car battery. No problem starting car from cold. Strangely car doesn't start when engine is hot. Know it should be other way round.
What could be the reason for this problem??
I stopped listening after 1min and started reading the comments lol
Me too me too 😁
I got 10secs 😂😂😂
Me too!

This video delivers good value info. Thank you :)
LOL
My car's battery is leaking a really foul-smelling fluid around the terminals, and it's warm to the touch after sitting for several hours. It is also only a few months old. What might cause this? I have a newly refurbished alternator, so, I don't think it would be that.
Thank you so much!! You saved me a trip to the dealer, I really needed this.
DUDE NO-ONE replaces their battery until it's completely DEAD - It's a guy thing.
Agreed
Tru🤣
You taught me how to drive. I watched your videos last year before going to a driving school and it really helped me a lot.
Awesome how are you doing now? Do you notice how drivers at night are more annoying than in the morning. It’s like night and day literally
I have an 06 Chevy 2500 and it’s doing a weird thing where I have to turn the key to the on position without starting it until the voltage goes up then I can start it. It doesn’t make any sense to me that the battery gains voltage when the truck is off.
I love getting car tips from David Cross!
Thanks I appreciate all your great videos!
What about my car starting but when I give it just a little gas it’ll stop or move a little slow
My car over heated cause my rad fan wasnt working and now my car feels like im starting in 3rd or fourth gear till it catches up and drives...the battery light on the dash will light up and turn off randomly...slow crank, slow accel and if i give it gas it feels like im in to high of a gear...do you think the the battery or maby something else im not great with cars ☹️
I had a burning smell that occasionally came from my defrost vents for the past couple of months and thought my rotors were getting hot and causing my brakes to burn. Turns out my rotors are in great condition, but I went ahead and changed my front brakes just to be on the safe side. The burning smell was heavy the first time my wife and I noticed it, but it eventually got somewhat better and would come and go at times. I then put CRC Guaranteed To Pass emissions fuel system cleaner in my car and I still got a little bit of a smell. I was going to buy new front calipers thinking they were bad because I was dealing with wheel dragging and hesitation, but then a winter storm hit 2 days before Christmas Eve and it got down to negative 5 degrees outside. I went to start my car Friday morning, but my battery was weak and my car barely started up. I replaced my 8 year old original car battery with a brand new Ever Start AGM battery from Walmart and the smell went away almost immediately. I then noticed that my car no longer felt like it was dragging and hesitating to go when I accelerate. The problem I was having this whole time was that my battery was actually starting to fail causing both a burnt smell and my traction control to engage intermittently which was the cause of my dragging and hesitation...
Now i see whats going on with mine as well. Thanks, you are a life saver
Why are you screaming at me😩
My car some days it will start some days it won't start took it to O'Reilly's hook it up to the battery machine says my battery is holding charge but it also said dead battery on the machine so does this mean I have to replace the battery
Thanking you for all the information here.
My car wouldn't start for a while but then I got a jump and it started. Then the next day it wouldn't start. So I unplugged the battery clamps for about a week. Then I connected the clamps back on and my car almost started but couldn't turn over.
So my question is, would that be a bad battery or a bad alternator?
Thanks!
Had trouble hearing you in the back
Thanks for Your tips
just today i had my honda accord 2010(what you have as acura tsx) cranking twice to get it going.
the batterie is about 8years old.....
i think i will have to replace it monday or tuesday.
its not that cold over here in germany....i think we had like 7°+celsius...pretty warm for a newyears night.
the radio is always on and the beams are also in automatic so it tried to crank it but it didnt turned on the first time and i could feel it just dont have the shmakkes to turn it....so i had to give it a second turn and then the engine started.
i just think its a bad batterie in bad shape.
can i upgrade to the next bigger one...lets say i have a 55...can i go with a 65?
Replace that battery ASAP. It will leave you stranded.
Wow thanks first time experiencing this issue thanks alot
I have a problem with my battery I cleaned the posts and changed the positive terminal and still don't start the car but it plays music and lights turn on and the car could run for a few hours but a few hours later it won't start..anyone know anything about this thanks
I have some troubles with my car battery. I started the engine using a jump starter, twice this week, tuesday and today (I haven't used my car between these days). I have checked the charge with a cheap tool and it says my battery is half charged while a multimeter indicates the voltage at 12,16 V. About the fluid, I can't see how much fluid is left in it... Is my battery dead?
This is the same with our car wev had to jump start it a few times these past two weeks zzz
Hay from Israel. my battarry started to slow down & this video gave me very useful information in a clear way. Thanks. & for all the "heros" behind the keyboard with personal comments, SHAME ON YOU!
So helpful information. Thanks
One symptom of a bad car battery is the battery keeps going dead and won't recharge itself a lot then it would be time to replace the battery
or the alternator
Or both, if the battery is past recovering.
👍🌹 how do I know if the battery dead because of problems with dynamo ?
Thanks
Are you still running a record company with the chipmunks?
Excellent info!
Good job explaining the problem. I love this guy. He should be a mechanic
My car started to stall at an idle I couldn't for the life of me figure it out.. battery was drained.. changed three iacv and tps sensors and throttle body even the ecu and fuel filter and fuel pump
My car usually shakes when it starts like how most cars do but today it decided to feel like it didn’t start like it started but it didn’t shake and it felt quiet as if it didn’t start and then the battery light was on but then I turned it off and back on and it didn’t start so I did it again then it started normal again and battery light went away
was it a red or yellow battery sign? could be a bad alternator or maybe a bad starter... but start with your battery. Check your spark plugs too
thanks
So my car hasn’t been started for 5 months been setting and I turn the car on and it makes clicking and don’t trun on
Charge your battery lol
Thank you.
How does it sound again ?
A slow crank can also be a lazy starter motor
I replaced the negative side battery cable end cleaned it up.an replaced the end and now I have to jump it to start it. when it sits after getting a jump it goes totally dead. Now i can't even get a jump. The other day I had to get a jump 3 times to get home. As soon as we would hook the cables up it would start right up. Well my friend and her son came to give me a jump. An as soon as he hooked up the cables to his battery his truck died and totally drained his battery completely and started to melt his cables. An they are the thick good jumping cables. So he checked out my battery an the negative side had so much spark more than the positive side. He said that the ground side should not spark. So what could the problem be?
Hey,,where are the chipmunks ...🤣
Next month is the month I start studying and start my journey to get my driver's license I already have a playlist about driving tips for beginners like me and I'ma study so hard im also almost finish with my weight lost journey if I handle going through a weight lost journey I believe I can go through a driver's license journey
Buom tut don’t forget to add blinker fluid every month to your car
Thank you so much
Ok, my ears are officially bleeding profusely....
My battery is venting fumes smells bad do I need a new battery or is that another issue?
That's not your battery that's most likely your catalyststic converter
Nice. I liked the way you explained.
I have a 2014 Acura RDX with battery hydrometer and it say battery description green good battery and dark bad battery but I just look a clear color the battery has like 4 years is oem.
In Vegas you be lucky if battery last 2 years.
What does it mean when it makes that first noise and not the second? For
Reason number 1
Good advice
my battery died twice already and its only been 6 mos since I had it replaced.
my battery just got flooded and got shorted from 12.6V to 2V was charging for 4 full days now cranking is really slow
here's several things for battery repairing
never try to do this until you are sure what you are doing - the acid can burn your skin
check the voltage first - there may be a kaput cell which would waste your time.
Check the battery fluid.
Try to fully charge the battery.
(I learned about these and more on Jons mender guide site )
Great video 👍
Spot on.
Can this cause a car to surge while accelerating
How to know if the car is leaking electricity ? Model 2013 Mercedes
Good info
Hello waht happens if i drive i bad battery 🔋 for 2month
If I have a slow crank can I charge it or should I replace a car battery
You can charge it, but if it goes dead again then it’s a bad battery or alternator
What about clicking sound by driver side
My truck will stall from time to time especially when stop at A light or make a turn, then it'll take sometime to restart.... An it'll feel like it's going to stop while driving... And it has corrosion around the negative post... Sounds like A battery issue to me.... Thanks for this video.... Yet I've seen video that says it can be A fuel pump, or throttle body issue ... Idk 😐
Honest my car is just having a hard time starting when it’s cold. Tonight it wasn’t starting at all! Needed a jump start 😳
I'll give you a thumbs up because you were driving on Dufferin.
Can the battery explode 🤔🤷♀️
When I switch on and off my car headlights, my car display dims. Is this a battery issue?
I know I'm 7 months late, but no that just seems like the display adjusting for night. When you're headlights are turned on, it's most likely darker conditions, and to avoid being blinded by the dash lights, they dim automatically.
I know that Chrysler/Fiat did this for their minivans a few years back.
@@arvid3734 and mitsubishi does that too
I think all new cars are doing that now
This guy creates anxieties
Why doesnt my car give me any indication that the battery level is low???
Daniel Cannata same thing I was trying to figure out
Some cars do
Same problem here. The battery indicator light didn’t flicker like the other lights did, so I didn’t know if it was going bad
Thanks for the vid, but I thought this was comedian Paul Virzi back in his salesman days for a sec
I believe my car battery needs to be replaced as I had to recently get a jump off on the car, the battery is over 4 years old as of January 2015, when I open my car doors for the interior lights to come on, they flicker on and off, my car headlights won't come on when I turn the car on before I try to crank it up, it won't say nothing at all, when I put the car key in the ignition to make that noise, it barely makes that noise/sound so chances are it is time for a new car battery, a all new alternator just got installed and with it being new and the car battery isn't, it is that time to be replaced so that the alternator don't have to try to be getting weaker power from a low cell car battery
Thanks but this is bad.
My battery fixed but I end up most likely in ER.

I basically had the same problem with my battery. Last month when I was on my way to the store, my car died so I got my multimeter out and I checked the voltage on the battery and it was 9.7378 Volts so I thought “what the heck is going on with this battery”, the next thing I knew I seen some smoke coming from the tips of the battery terminals. I was suspicious on what was going on and I couldn't believe it because this battery was only barely 16 years old which I consider fairly new in today's society, so basically what I want to do is try to clean up the battery with some soap and salt solution and then I might put it on the charger for two or three minutes at a high current rate just to see if it will hold a charge. I'm not sure if that's going to help the battery or not but one thing's for certain before I go out and buy a new battery, I'm definitely going to try these two methods that I suggested. Now on the other hand I could swap the battery out with one from my 1962 Chevy Tahoe but I'm not sure that my old lady would let me do that, so basically what I need to do is first, I'm going to check all the air in the tires before I monkey around with the battery. Then I'm probably going to run a few errands around town down and the next thing I want to do is get some paint and paint the battery terminals because I don't think they look very good without the neon yellow color look on them. If all goes well, I am planning to do a few other things to the terminals. Next after that chore, is get some of that distilled water and pour on the outside of the battery to try to clean up a lot of the dirt and dust its accumulated over all these years. If I have time what I'll do after that it's try to clean both sides of the mirrors on my 1965 Ford Bronco because I've noticed while I was driving that it's hard to see what kind of traffic is coming up behind me. I was having a problem with the battery when I put the headlights on low beam and then when I tried to switch the high-beam I noticed that the voltage excursions were jumping around so I went out and I bought another set of test leads to use on my digital multimeter and there was no difference at all, so I think I may borrow my friend Tony Jones's multimeter just to check those voltage excursions to see if that is normal. Nobody really explained to me how to test a DC voltage excursions when the battery is not in its prime. I am all on my own doing this. A lot of people have contacting me and they said that they've had that problem once or twice and maybe even three times in their lifetime with their batteries but they did something totally different. What they did was loosen the terminals first then they carefully remove the battery and hoisted it out to get rid of all the debris and dirt that's accumulated after all these years then they put it on a slow charge which I believe they told me was 32 milliamps for 6 days, 3 hours and 54 seconds. Next they took the battery caps off and added some distilled water, which they claimed that they bought it at their local Walmart store. I think, if I can remember correctly, they said it was .99 cents plus the sales tax. Can you believe that just 99cents? That's a real good price for one full gallon of distilled water. Speaking of water, yesterday I helped my neighbor that lives to the right side of my house, fill their swimming pool for the new season. It literally took 7 hours to fill. I am not sure how many gallons it is. I have met people in my lifetime that had no idea that there were 4 quarts of water in a gallon jug. They just assumed it was a gallon only. I am not really good at math but I do have a calculator on my cell phone. Speaking of math, it takes me back to grade 11 in high school when my teacher, Mr. Lowry gave us a sneak quiz on algebra. I failed it because I didn't understand what that was all about. I spent most of my high school time stoned and kinda out of it. Some of my classmates were very good at math, and it even showed when they got their report cards. I may have gotten of the path of whatever we were initially talking about. I think it had something to do with blue cheese. No, I remember now, it was car batteries. I never could figure out why they put car batteries in the front of the vehicle and not inside the vehicle. It would be so much easier to work on them, especially in the rain, if they were inside the vehicle. Doesn't that make more sense to you too? Well anyhow, batteries are pretty heavy for their size and some people can't lift them very good. I had a fried, Tony Smith who had asthma and once he tried to lift out his car battery, and sneezed, and the battery fell out of his hands and landed on his right baby toe. It broke the small bones in that toe of his. I called his mothers step daughter Ann but she was not home. So I then called his brothers uncle Fred and told him about what just happened to Tony's toe. He seamed like he was drunk and started laughing at me and said “I don't care about that Bast#$ds toe”. I got mad and hung up on him immediately. From that day on, I never spoke to Tony's brother's uncle Fred. I never really liked him in the first place bacause when Tony and I were 13 years old, we were at a softball game and Fred walked over to us and farted right in our faces. That was not very nice of that old pervert. I heard some stories about him when he was about 20 years old that would make you cringe if you heard them, but I can't get into that right now because I have to finish up my posting here on you tube. I hope I have given you folks some good advice on having some of your problems solved in a timely manner. I like to help out when I can if it is at all possible. I am out for 3 more hours so I want to go now and get a hot dog and a bottle of grape soda. I need to look around for a ride so I can get back to my padded room at the Sinclair Insane Asylum. I hope Dr. Dilbert will not be mad at me for sneaking out....
lights flickering
How bad the battery gets when you forgot to turn off the lights for over 5 hours?
Just charge it back up
Chipmunks uncle a retired actor... CZcams is the way now lol
Lol chill😂😂😂😂😂
Just had to change battery and notice that my window motor had hard time operating, also the remote locks. After new battery both works normal.
Look at the road bro!
I have a slow crank after engine warms up
Low battery causes the alarm comes on?
I think so because mine came on out of nowhere
@@soyicasweet99 take the battery to auto parts store, they recharge it for free and they Tell you if is necessary replace it or not 👍
If the battery is bad you can still use it when you jump start it right but it won’t charge right?
sounds like it wouldn't be able to hold a charge, meaning it probably has a dead cell in the battery. Run some tests to confirm if you can
Should be another step in there Step 6 rapid clicking noises
how many years should the battery last?
If it’s factory for sure 7-8 years with basic vehicular care
Fluctuating idle RPMs is another good sign too.
Yes!!!
Always check the date of the battery first !
First and foremost check the voltage. If you don’t have 12v get a new battery
Inside voice inside voice 🤷🏽♂️🤙 sounds like a sham wow commerical lol
If you have a bad battery will the car shut off on you while your driving ?
Yes ..if its real bad and alt is bad also...batteries go bad gradually in most cases...you could just have a bad alternator...
This is what happened to me. Did this happen to you and did replacing the battery fix the issue ?
Had to put the volume onclow
Close your eyes and you’ll see Kermit the frog being a mechanic
Thanks Gary Vee
Sounds like Saul Goodman. Better call Saul!
Hey man you should do a video on alterantors..
What would you like to know about alternators? Diagnostic and symptoms one is bad or just a general explanation?
@@diy_automotive Hello I am having problems since yesterday. All of a sudden my car wouldn't start just clicking. I jumped it drive it around parked it started right up. I tried it the next morning it wouldn't start. I thought maybe bc the temps here were below freezing. Can you tell me if it's my alternator or battery please and Thank you 😊
@pamcobbs if it will drive around its most likely not your alternator, cold weather will kill a weak battery. Most parts stores will test your battery for free.
I would say either a bad battery or something is draining it. If it started doing it with sudden temp drops and your battery is more than 3-4 years old I would bet my money on a bad battery.
Aw man..
Bro take it easy 😂
gru.. is that you??
why people are hating on him?
Cuz of his yelling lol
I don’t think anyone hates him. I truly think they are a bit bothered by him yelling loud as hell in this video
