  • From Walking thru to Galloping, by way of Ambling, Pacing, Trotting and Cantering, a dog uses its legs in a series of different patterns to suit a whole range of speeds and needs. Slow-motion film reveals just what those legs are doing.

      I was thinking exactly along the lines of: “and then Boston Dynamics…”
      I added myself this video on a 2D drawing playlist (for whenever I finally learn draw 😅)

    This is brilliant, thank you. There's a vet and behavioralist who just hypothesized about an ambling dog who might have certain health issues (a dog that ambles regularly, rather than sporadically), so I wanted to learn about the different gaits.
    Thank you

    I have a small dog and I watched this video because I was worried she was bunny hopping, but I think she was just doing a canter or a gallop? Is that normal, she likes to wait behind and sniff while I walk ahead and she will run slightly ahead and sniff, and we will do that for a lot of the walk. So she’s usually not doing a normal walking pace, she is constantly sniffing and then running ahead but not full on sprinting.

      I think the only way to discover for sure what gaits a dog is using is by filming them and then studying the film, preferably in slow-motion. But I'm not sure why you say you were worried about "bunny-hopping"?

    Wow nice video! What’s the main difference between a Canter gait vs a Bunny hop? They seem to look the same?

    • @artiegalanti
      @artiegalanti  Před 3 lety +4

      Interesting point. “Bunny hopping” resulting from problems like floating kneecaps, hip dysplasia or even a thorn in the foot, is a limping/skipping movement. It can look a little like the Canter, but of course the Canter itself is a regular light and flowing gait.
      A different hop, also called “bunny hopping”, can happen if a dog is unable to see whilst in long grass, or is pouncing on prey. Brigg gives a demonstration here... czcams.com/video/qMs91dMevhs/video.html
