Northampton immediately makes me think of Allan Lamb and footballer Phil Neal...guess that ages me. Whilst showing us what Northampton has to offer to visitors it was nice to see a town centre where old buildings rule, rather than the average place destroyed by town "planners" and "architects" who specialise in concrete 'n' glass monstrosities. It's bad enough that most towns seem to have the same chain stores who have a corporate identity, so you could be stood in a branch in Portsmouth and the layout will be pretty much identical to the branch in Newcastle....talk about sterile. The splendid art deco Savoy picture house makes me think of the destruction of the one in my town, and how council sponsored vandalism has left just remnants of Georgian architecture.
