Back in '64 their hair was outrageously long! Lead singer Eric Burden came from the northeast of England which has it's own very distinctive accent. The Bass player is Chas Chandler who discovered and promoted Hendrix. A great band, in competition with the Beatles, they made some great music. Lovely reaction, this little old English lady thanks you.
The Animals were a part of the "British Invasion" in the early 60's. Brit groups obsessed with Black American music includes the Beatles.

Something tells me she knows that. Prob better than you.
Can you please be my grandma? I read this comment and instantly fell in love with you.
@@EpicEvilMonster12 I'd love to be your grandma, EpicEvil, :)
@@TheHaplorhine well you're my grandma now I love you. 🥰🥰🥰😚😚😚
“They did all kind of stuff before I was born... that ain’t fair!” 😂😂😂😂😂
I was 1 when they did this one.
Ricky Culpepper I was -11 LOL! I was born in 1975!
I was 9 . Peacelivelife.
Heather Tucker - You were 11 when the Animals covered this song and you were born in 1975?? This came out on their 1964 album.
SynergyPhoenix Umm no... read carefully... I was NEGATIVE 11 (-11)... 1975 minus 1964 is 11.
It's crazy how powerful and mature Burden's voice is considering he was only in his early twenties at the time..it's like your listening to an old man reminiscing on his life
He’s got one of those surprise voices like Rick Astley 😆
I can`t duplicate that voice without hurting myself. I thought that the unique thing in this song was how Eric would stare into the camera with that serious look on his face. Isn`t that a no no. It`s so different...
Son, watching you discover and genuinely enjoy music I grew up with is so goddamn satisfying, it's like watching my own kids. You are the epitome of welcoming and warm, you connect with the music and your audience. I'm not your dad, but I'm damn proud to be here to watch you continue to grow in followers and positive influence. Well done.
Your comment is beautiful and touching. 💙
Man! What a great comment. I was 10 when this came out and you nailed my very own reaction, Sir! God Bless him and Bless you!
That dude's fire with those belting vocals.
Animals "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"
And Nina Simone's version is GREAT also😍
oh lord.... yess
and absoFREEKIN'lutely to the undeniable Miss Simone
YES YES YES
I'm just a soul whose intentions are bad Oh Lord, don't let her realize she's been had.(my version)
Open your eyes vato.
Eric Burden was 23 when they recorded this, looked like he was 18 and sounded like 50, a young man from England singing like that I just unbelievable. He's 79 now. The secret to being that loud and seemingly unbothered is to sing from the diaphragm, where the lungs meet your stomach.
Agreed, Eric Burdon was one of those people who sounded NOTHING like what you might expect by looking at them. There was this joke ever since he started performing (that people still tell) that he's a 24-year-old lad who looks like he's 17 and sounds like he's 54. Pretty accurate.
That organ is the juice of this song.
Eric Burdon is one of the greatest voices that we have! Try, War, "spill the wine" On the trippy side!
I wondered if someone would suggest this! one of the best videos ever, imho! :-)
I love SPILL THE WINE! One of my favorites and Eric Burden.... One of my favorite voices❤
This. Spill the Wine.
We Gotta Get Out of This Place was a staple of the Viet Nam War. My brother was in Da Nang and these guys and their music, along with the Four Tops, and Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin kept him alive. Eric Burden is British and rocked his music!!
sexy guy for sure
Took my dad (72 years old) to see Eric Burdon perform in Nov 2018 and he still sounds great. My dad last saw him perform in '67 so seeing my dad's reaction when Eric Burdon came out was awesome and surreal. But to be honest, seeing most of the crowd which are my dad's generation react and act like teenagers/young 20's, was awesome.
Eric's voice was piercing. Great band
Screaming Jay Hawkins - “I Put A Spell On You”
Yeah brother!
AGREED, Sir...A-GREED!!
👍
Have to go with CCR'S cover of " I'll put a spell on you"
Oh, HELL yeah!
Eric Burdon is seriously underrated as a vocalist. other good ones are "Please don't let me be Misunderstood", "We've gotta get out of this place" and "It's my Life". Spill the Wine is super trippy as well
Love Spill the Wine and Tobacco Road live videos. Sooo good.
You are so right!
Yes! Great tune
Now wait a minute, Lady Shar. I KNOW I'm lying in a field of grass somewhere ..........
These groups back then didnt have all these special things to help their voices like today. You had to know how to sing back then.
And they also got a lot of damage to their vocal chords by relentless days and months of venues, sadly !an English trumpet player, Roy Castle ,died from lung cancer ,purely because he inhaled the cigarette smoke via his trumpet .
The Animals were a favorite of my father. They were part of the soundtrack to his time in the Vietnam War, and the Animals music helped get him through that rough time.
The base player helped Jimmy Hendrix launch his career!
the Bass player also discovered and managed Slade.
The late Chas Chandler.
@@DavidGiggyes he did! Love Slade and RIP Chas Chandler. Slade is a band that I would give up some months to go back and see Slade in their prime. Thin Lizzy as well. You take care and stay safe 😷
Awesome! Didn't know that.
Chas Chandler was Jimi's manager took him over to England and formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience!
the rest is history
"We've gotta get out of this placer" is another great by the Animals. After the Animals, the lead singer went with a band called War. Try "Spill the wine".
THIS!
And he talks. Wish granted.
Unless you Were Born in the 50s Or 60s You Lost Out !! But Not Totally Cause ur Injoying It Now...I Was Blessed to Be Born in 55..Yes...🎼🎵❤😉✌🎶
@@wandaprescott6672 OMG! Me too :)
@@wandaprescott6672 I was born in 61, but I remember the protests in the 60s and wishing I had been born earlier so I could be a part of that. These days I say... be careful what you wish for 😉
This is such a great example of why I love older tunes more than alot of modern stuff. Most these days just trying to recreate the magic of a golden age of songwriting and craftsmanship
Captivating was a great a word to describe this song and his voice.
9 yrs old when i 1st heard this and i thought "wow" this is different than " I want to hold your hand" by the Beatles. Soon after that i got into " The Yardbirds" . By the time i was 12 i had discovered " Muddy Waters" " Howling Wolf" n other great blues artist.
😍😍😍😍
I'm 31, but you pretty much just listed what I got my feet wet with back in 95 on my moms old records. I didn't realize she was a badass youngin in her day until much later in life haha
Chas Chandler, the bassist, left The Animals in 1966. He discovered Jimi Hendrix in NYC and brought him to England where The Jimi Hendrix Experience was formed. He managed the band until the album "Electric Ladyland" because he felt it was self-indulgent. He went on to manage the group Slade. He died in 1996 at the age of 58 of an aortic aneurysm.
And the guy on the keyboards is Alan Price who went on to have his own group and after that was with Georgie Fame.
Nice breakdown. I think Electric Ladyland is a phenomenal album though. Chandler came outta the world of 3 minute pop songs though, and always told Jimi and Mitch how the House of the Rising was cut 1st take. Jimi was a different artist, a perfectionist, and an explorer. Guess it was time to part ways. Chandler did a lot of good for Jimi, except getting him under contract with Mike Jefferies( in the long run anyways). ✌
Jimi opened for the monkess in 67
@@madmann5373 Yeah, created a lot of publicity. What a strange combination though, Hendrix and the Monkees .
I was always surprised that the music industry didn't try to promote Chas Chandler as a solo artist. He had such good looks that he could have been a teen idol on that basis alone.
Yup he sang it :
The band achieved a major breakthrough with "The House of the Rising Sun" in 1964. Burdon claimed that recording the piece took him only 15 minutes as, to him, singing that song that he had already been singing at age 16 was simply routine.
This song is only 4 years older than I am. My hippie mom played this song sooo many times. I know the lyrics backwards and forwards from my childhood. There's so many good memories associated with this song, even though it's sad. Eric Burdon is one helluva vocalist, but the whole band is just on point on this song. Back in the day, only casinos and brothels were open all night. That's the whole "house of the rising sun" idea. It's so sad, but it has one righteous vibe to it.
Eric Burden is still in a band today. There are videos with Eric talking and doing his today thing.
I watch all of his interviews. Love his geordie accent. Intelligent man.
I was 10 years old when this song was released. I was lucky to see them in 2015 at Stagecoach Festival in Indio CA, a country music festival
Eric Burden has one of the most beautiful and soulful voices ever!! I was born in the late 70s but grew up listening to this type of music. 99% of new artists cannot hold a candle to Eric or his band wether it be the animals or WAR.
"We gotta get out of this place" I think is there best, then "don't let me be misunderstood" is probably my second favorite of theirs.
That's him...Eric Burdon. Keep going and you'll see they did a lot of great songs."It's My Life" is a good one. He also hooked up with the band War for another good one "Spill The Wine".
"Spill The Wine" is a definite
Dave Wilson nice to know. Thanks 👌🏼

That Vox organ solo is like the blueprint for 1960s psychedelic music, it became such an iconic sound.
Rumor has it these dudes would really party down back in the day, too.
This was one of my mama favorite songs RIP mama
Same with my late mother in law- She sang very seriously in church choir for YEARS.. time to time, she’d partake in a few beers.. when she did, she was sure to belt this song out! And very well, I must say- had some pipes on her- ✨✌️
@@kimberlinibambini1988 another one was ccr proud mary
Amanda Johnson yeah, also LOVE them doubt “Heard it through the grapevine.” Sooo fawnky!! ✨✌️
@@kimberlinibambini1988 yes
The Anímals. House of the Rising Sun. Hell yeah. You could sit and listen to this song all day, and not be able to dissect it all.
They’re smiling there at the end because they know with that video and that song they just became LEGENDS
It's hard to believe that Eric Burdon, the lead singer who sang this song in this video, is now a great-grandfather and still performing and doing great. :)
The lead singer is no fake. He was raised in a rough neighborhood and had a hard early life...and that's how he ended up with that voice.
Patricia Downing is 100%correct. He is still going strong.
Has he wrote a song yet, my main complaint with the animals is most their songs were covers or written for someone else
@@jamiespencer1041 that was the nature back then. A lot of big Led Zeppelin songs were covers
Jennifer Mirra I don’t overly rate them either lol they’ve done some good ones, just not for me, much to my dads disgust lol
So living a hard life in a rough neighborhood, is the reason for his voice? Here I was, thinking he was just born with it.
Eric was voted one of the top 100 greatest voices of all time.
The fellow with the "huge guitar" (it's a bass) is Chas Chandler, who "discovered" Jimi Hendrix at the Cafe Wha in New York city and took him to London, introduced him to Clapton et al and the rest is history...
Eric Burden had and has a soulful voice that was older than his years.
Remember mate, in those days they couldn't cut loose or they would be arrested for public indecentcey. That's why they are so restrained.
😍
I should also say I was born in 1970, after this was even made. Some music lasts the test of time, this is one.
???????
You should check out a song called "the letter" by the box tops. The lead singer was only 16 when he recorded it. He stayed out all night partying the night before and came straight to the studio from the clubs and laid down the vocals. That's why his voice sounds the way it does on the recording.
Made me think of that one also!!
Agreed. That’s a fabulous song. I prefer Joe Cocker’s cover, though. I’d love to see that on a reaction video. Joe Cocker: The Letter, or Joe Cocker: With a Little Help from My Friends.
I had such a crush on Alex Chilton. 💜💜💜
The Doors - Roadhouse Blues
So many great songs by them.
"We got to get out of here"
"Don't let me be misunderstood"
Soundtrack of the 60's
Eric Bourden has just such an iconic voice. I'm so glad he's still kickin it
One of the best songs ever. Eric Burdon has also one of the best voices. Sheer talent from the whole damn band..Don't make em like this anymore
This was super popular when first released. That melody was infectious. There was a lot of surf music around also using that clean guitar sound.
The House of the Rising Sun was recorded in one take. couldn't afford more time in the recording studio
What does this song; Black Betty by ram jam; Gallows pole by Led Zep ;Cotton fields and Midnight train by C.C.R ;Where did you sleep last night and Ain't it a shame by Nirvana all have in common?
They where all recorded by a African American folk/Blues man from the 20/30's. named Huddie Ledbetter, better known as lead belly.Could you please react to one or more of the above in Honor of this great but little known artist?😄🇨🇦
Had to look him up and will check out his covers :)
I second that. I'd love to see him react to Lead Belly!
These old videos don’t always match up with singers words. But he is certainly singing this.
As I understand it, the audio quality in the various TV studios was pretty bad, so they used the recording over the video.
this video looks like 2 live film clips edited together with a single audio track, so half of it matches an the other half doesn't
You must, you absolutely HAVE to see him with the band War. He really gets loose with them and shows how much power he had. You will love it.
In his 70’s, he still has his voice!
If you wanna hear the lead singer talk, search for "Eric Burdon Interview". Your reactions are BRILLIANT!!
"Spill The Wine" is another cool tune he did.
This is an all time Classic! It’s been covered by many, many artists. 🎵
You look as mesmerised as everyone who hears this for the first time. Fantastic song, voice and band
eric burdon was one of the best vocalists from the early and mid 60's. saw him 10 years ago at a small theater in great barrington mass. with the new animals. you would not recognize him as he looked old but man he still had 'the voice'. unmistakable talent
Do "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"
It’s only fair that our comments entertain you since you entertain us so so much with your reaction videos.😉💜👍🏻
It's awesome seeing the young generation appreciate the Classic Rock of the 60s and 70s. So much great music.
I saw these guys in Seattle in 1980 and even as old as he was then, his voice was perfect. they were just fantastic. I got up close and it was a thing to remember.
A song about a sushi buffet. Way ahead of it’s time. Most underrated thing ever conceived. GOAT cheese.
It's about an opium den/whore house.imo
@@linnymaemullins3319 Had to have been a joke, friend. Yeah, it wasn't about sushi, I'm sure they were cracking a joke on the name of the place.
Vinz Clortho lmao
Animals were one of the best bands in that era and I would put them up with any band today. Happy you got to experience them.
The keyboardist and vocalist were phenomenal!!! The singer was so young that no one would have anticipated such power, maturity and soulfulness from him. An amazing voice and delivery. And what could be said about the keyboardist? Such incredible, stylistic playing, again from someone so young. This was a little like that white guy, “blue-eyed soul” we got from The Righteous Brothers.
The unadorned simplicity and innocence of an earlier era in this almost high school gymnasium level performance from the early years of rock, reaching back to when most television was still broadcast in black and white video. 🧨🧨
My daddy sang this as my lullaby every night....beautiful memory as he just passed away April 29th of this year. Thanks so much bro ! The animals were righteous !
I saw Eric Burden and the Animals at the Hollywood Bowl in 1968. Great show! Song about a whore house. And check out Tom Waits, you'll never believe the voice comes out of that little White boy. and Leonard Cohen Hallelujah.
One of my favourite groups in the 60's. Still have their first album. Bought it in 1966. I was 14 years old. Played it a lot. Thank you. Still sounds great. God bless you. 💟🎸🎹💟
Haven't heard that song in a long time, that was so chill! Even the face pillow was like 😳
The lead singer has such a great voice, another guy who had opera potential. Terrific song, listen to that keyboard.
We Gotta Get Out of This Place and Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood are also great one's by THE ANIMALS. Thanks for doing this❤💙
This used to be a go to song when learning to play guitar... lol
The Animals: Don't let me be misunderstood...its a must!
"We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" is another Animals beauty!
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood is a must!
Eric Burden has an amazing voice. Van Morrison is another amazingly bluesy voice from the same era.
We saw Charlie Daniels AND Eric Burdon in concert in 2012. My daughter was three and met Eric Burdon. We are huge Animals/Eric Burdon fans. His time with War was epic!
The musicians way back in the day were pure talent; they were brilliant in singing; they had no autozone
I just love the way you start your videos with the "ahhyeeeaa!" & a jump on the couch not sure why lol oh and yea you should react to spill the wine
Me too, that's my favorite part!
“Don’t let me be misunderstood,” and “San Franciscan nights,” are both really good by them! Also “spill the wine,” which was a collaborative with the great band War
I was “ Down In Monterey” with Eric! I mean I was in the audience to see what he wrote about.
The two songs that are attached to my earliest memories are "She Loves You" and "The House of the Rising Sun". Thank God I was born when I was because the bar was set then.
I work in a specialized home for people with dementia, there was a patientnwe had trouble doing his daily task like getting him dressed up. I sang this song and he started to sing with me. After that every time we used this song to calm him down. Music has amazing powers
Now not only can I not unsee the damn face in the pillow, but today she has freaking eyelashes on!!!
And eyeliner
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" or "It's My Life". You'll be happy with both!
That freakin organ solo gets me every fuckin time! Chill for years!
The lyrics, playing, singing and rising volume and tempo is just incredible. captivating as you say!
Going through your whole playlist. Great song and reaction. 🔥🎵
"We Gotta Get Out Of This Place". You probably won't be surprised that this one was yuge with the G.I.'s in Vietnam.
Love Mr.Video reactions!
That voice is something else....
And them starting to march like the craziest mariachis ever...out of this world strong.
Just always looks so weird how effortlessly Eric Burdon shouts the strongest singing voice of all times.
That voice is something else....
And them starting to march like the craziest mariachis ever...out of this world strong.
Beginning of the end of band members wearing matching suits.
Blood, Sweat, and Tears: “Spinning Wheel” or “When I Die.”
You won’t regret it, I promise.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the Leadbelly version of this kicks serious ass.
That pattern of 6 that he's got going on the guitar is iconic (it's the same pattern as REM's "Everybody Hurts"). It's quite easy to play, but makes you feel like a boss!
That lead singer is Eric Burton. He later sang with War. Listen to him and War perform "Spill the Wine" Awesome!!
Most definitely need to react to "Spill The Wine" since the fact that you an overfed long haired leaping gnome would understand it
Very 1st song that I learned on the guitar! 🎸🎵🎼🎵🎼🎵🎸
Ha me too. I was 12.
That was Eric Burden’s voice alright. He was just 23 and recorded this in one take. No technical wizardry back then either, just his own raw God-given talent. Apparently he’s still in fine voice today.
That "Thang" is a vox organ, and you can only get that sound from one. It had vacuum tubes and was very distinctive. The House of the Rising Sun was a bordello. Eric Burton, the singer, has a nice, normal voice and then this wonderful sound falls out of his face! Phenomenal. THIS is what we grew up with in the 60s.
Average White Band, Tower of Power, Danielle Nicole, The Teskey Brothers ... great soulful music from today and 70s
Oh, The Teskey Brothers song “Rain” makes me melt ♥️🎤🎶💖
Yes!!!! So good!!!
We need to thank Chas Chandler, the bassist, for giving us Jimi Hendrix......
It was great to see that video again and to see your reaction to it, it brought back so many memories and made me feel a bit tearful. i was 13 when this song was at the top of the charts. All the members of the group went on to do great things in their own right as they were all so talented. As others have mentioned Chas Chandler went on to manage Jimi Hendrix and brought him worldwide fame. Jimi is one of my all time heroes, I saw him at the Royal Albert Hall in London the year before he died, Sept 1970, he was only 27 so it must have been 68/69 when I saw him. I still have the ticket in a drawer somewhere. My friend was given front row seats by her boss as he'd been given them by a client but he wasn't a fan so we got them instead. My God what a night that was, I still remember it to this day. Perhaps you could think about giving your view on a JH track, although there are so many "All Along the Watchtower", "Purple Haze". "The Wind Cries Mary", "Hey Joe", "Voodoo Child". They will probably blow your brains out. 😅
I think this song is a hundred years old, it morphs each time it's sung.
