A comic costing 20 grand?! Talk about a mega-con!
I dropped $2500 with Greg on a tales to astonish 13 first appearance of groot. I felt bad about his book getting stolen so I decided to make a major purchase for the personal collection with him.
Better check that book for trim and CT
Hes my landlord. He's a great guy
The guy says he spend 6 figures a year with Heritage auctions. He isn’t poor and doesn’t need people to donate to him. 🤡
@@RunMeThrough it’s still a kind gesture tho regardless
@@RunMeThroughyou're an envious 🤡
Sad to hear this. When I first moved to Florida I took a job transfer to Kissimmee in the late 90's. Greg White (the gentleman who was robbed) had a little brick and mortar store in the downtown area and that was my LCS back in the day. Bought all of my early Dark Horse Star Wars comics from his shop off the rack monthly. Hope justice is served. Remember thieves karma is a bitch.
There are thieves all over the world. 3 years ago, during covid, I had my first child at 36. Never imagined having children but I did and the money had saved went for a new vehicle to get me and my family around. Long story short I was making payments and on the last payment the car and seller was nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, it was told to me that it's a civil case and anyone who's ever sued before knows your basically s.o.o.l.
If people are willing to steal from those with newborns, they'll steal from anyone.
That is a real shame. Hope it turns up for sure!
I noticed Dale Roberts' booth. I've been dealing with him for years. Really nice books!
Great video Brother and Sister. Get the word out about the theft! Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures from Toronto Ontario Canada 😀 👍 ❤️ 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 ♥️ 💯💯
I saw this guy at megacon. Why you wouldn’t keep a book worth that much up high is beyond me
Shouldn't be a thing. The thief is to blame
What a stupid comment
Different vendors have different set ups. My guess is his thought was if it was closer to the ground, he could keep better tabs on it and snatch it quickly, but that wasn't the case. The biggest issue was that this guy grabbed it and ran. Who knows, it could have also been a set up. Distraction theif is pretty common when you think about it.
Dang thieves stealing that man’s book. Some people suck. Great video.
For some, eye candy of this magnitude is just too much to bear. Glad to see the owner taking it well. Thanks for sharing and doing what you can to help out. I'm a firm believer that good things happen to good people. Stay blessed!
Back in 1981,I was undecided about buying a VF tos 39, with a piece torn off the back cover corner, for 35 bucks. when I returned to the dealer table to buy it, the book was gone, and hadn't been sold. The employee got a mouthful for letting someone rip if off under his nose.
I really feel for that dealer you highlighted. He is trying to make a living because I am sure he loves what he is doing. Please post updates if you hear anything. I am really hoping that not only is this person caught, but the comic is returned to the dealer.
the thief may not even try and move it...he might just keep it for his collection, if that's the case the book is gone.
sooner or later it will turn up-too big a book and everyone will be watching for it-even if its years later
If the theft was opportunistic, the thief might try to sell the comic and with so many dealers alerted he may well be caught; if it was stolen to order or for himself then it's much less likely to turn up in the near future.
Absolutely beautiful EC comics, the covers look like the books were released just yesterday.
In the early 90’s, I helped out at a comic store. One night someone broke in. Smashed in the back door. Took several Golden Age books. One was Action Comics #23 - which I think was the 1st Lex Luthor. It wasn’t mint, but still. The biggie was Detective Comics #75 - which was MINT. Back then, there were many more comic stores than now. So the owner got on the phone to every store within a reasonable distance and had them keep an eye out for the stolen books. I really don’t remember if the ‘Tec 75 was ever recovered. I seem to recall that it was rescued, and the owner put it in a safety deposit box.
I was there as one of the vendors.. That theft messed the mood up for me the entire weekend. Greg is such a chill cat.. I always buy from him.
He did not deserve this.. I hoped (like in chicago years back) that the idiot would return and attempt to sell the book to someone else.. There would have been “problems” before the police arrived.
Hope springs in the knowledge that there are not a lot of AF 15’s out there.. It will surface.
That hurts, I bought a bargain vintage comic at a convention yesterday and he has my sympathy and I really hope he gets his book back.
God, stealing a grail would totally taint my entire collection. Can't imagine.
yea its pretty cringe, imagine having to look at it everyday and cant show anyone lol
For me the best cover of 2023 is the action comics 1053 by Will Jack. What an awesome cover it is 🥰
Interesting opening to this video. I hope for a positive outcome for this seller.
WOW some really great pick ups. Looks like you all had a good time
That’s a shame. I hope the vendor is made whole
So sad that people gotta steal...that just pisses me off. These guys gotta travel and keep up with so much and to have someone steal your stuff is just unacceptable bullshit. I hope they find his book.🙏
What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area.
That's a great Greg Land page! He's coming to a con I'm going to in a few months, I'll have to try and grab one.
nice haul-I luckily picked up one of the trade dress Wonder Woman covers-I want the others but they are already out of my price range
find the dude he was busy with, and you find the culprits.
I can't someone stole the AF#15 but something that cost that kinda money,he really should have had it on the top shelf,I hope he gets it back. Great books you guys picked up by the way and the Wolverine sketch is sick.
Victim blaming.....great.....
@@scottschram5178 Lol - not really victim blaming per se. But securing your valuables is important. It is about risk mitigation and we can all do better.
I really hope that guy gets his AF15 back. I would be way too scared to bring such a high-end book to a con. Sarah might have one of the biggest original artwork collections lol. She always brings that sketchbook with her.
I'd love to have a copy of X-Men #1 someday.
Joe Rubinstein! What a legend!!! You guys did good! Thank you for your great uploads!
Thank you for watching!
Hey guys another great video loved that original art I would have choose that page too.
Old timer has the right idea. Amen. I'm excited to go to the one in Phoenix. Nice pulls. God bless
Oh man! I love Greg! I hope he had the book insured.
I am so sorry to hear this. I was recently ripped-off as well I know how you feel and yes the only thing you can do is just move forward, like me what comes around goes around
Someone knew exactly what he had and they came up with a plan to have him be distracted and then they stole it. It boggles my mind on why if you have something that damn expensive you don't have it a a locked display case that's just stupidity. Can't believe how many people throw their money away on comic books.
7:19 the DCeased stuff is great. I missed the initial run, but luckily they are easy enough to find. A lot of really nice variant, too.
My head would explode trying to figure out what to buy. Enjoyed the video.
great video gives a good taste of the con for those of us too far away to attend - thanks for posting
Thank you!
Thats just heart breaking. I hope they find it and nail the thief!
I'm starting to wonder if this was a crime of opportunity or is somebody actually traveling around doing this because someone hit a booth at NYCC last year for a couple of big books as well.
In fact, a friend of mine had his personal copy of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (that was signed by John Romita Sr., John Romita Jr. and Virginia Romita) stolen as well.
I hope pray that they get all of their books back.
It's so awesome to see this generation with true happiness and wonderment in your eyes...it is a business I understand, still It's a shame some prices are out of reach for most fans ....
omg.....that art made of the smaller pieces I'm in love.
I gotta do Megacon, maybe next year.
In 2023, It's not who shot JR? It's who stole Amazing Fantasy 15? 🤔
It was kristen wot dun it...guv'na..
Wouldn't the people he was helping have noticed someone snatching a slab behind him? I think they were in on it, to distract him.
Exactly what happened
Dude you might want to suggest that to him, if he can remember who he was attending to when the theft happened, the better chance he has to locate it.
where i am from thiefs work together, one to distract and one to steal
I always love cons for the one of a kind items. Sucks about the AF15. Some people just ruin things for everyone else. I don't get it, but I'm not a thief to understand.
Thanks for video.
Thanks for watching!
That is heartbreaking! Especially since he'd bought the book for $15k so recently. I'm shocked that he had it sitting so close to the floor and not near the top of his display, but it's not like it's his fault. Heritage does a regular podcast now and since he bought the book from them (and many other books over the years) they might be willing to make an announcement about it on the podcast. The comic has such obvious sun damage that it can definitely be identified at a glance.
I feel like things that valuable should deff be locked up.
@@jerminator0688 But there are often a lot of expensive books on these dealer's display walls. It's just there's usually more than one person in the booth and/or the books are posted high up for visibility and safety. But hey, regardless it's terrible that it was stolen.
With as many people that were probably around the table I'm sure someone would have had to seen the person snatch up that AF15. I sure as heck would have said something if I saw it happen. Hopefully we get an update with good news.
Maybe they was more then one? 1 distract, other one steal..
Wow Greg lands original art stuff is great priced. 😮 I've always wanted to meet Land.
Sad that people resort to stealing a comic book!!
Nice pick ups!! -- Hope that the stolen AF #15 is recovered!! One of the reasons I shut down my brick & mortar retail & went to online sales only, was due to too much theft!
Wow thats very unfortunate!
If their insured for damages I’m sure it is also for theft
A lot of insurance companies do not want to cover comic books anymore bc of stolen books. AF#15 is not gonna show up for this guy and I feel so bad for him.
I can't imagine it would be easy to flip a stolen comic book.
Wait a few years
Very nice impression of MegaCon, make it 30 min plz
Really enjoying the con videos. The original artwork was awesome! That's a real shame about that stolen ASM. That's not what our community is about. Hope they catch whoever did it.
You pass on golden and silver age books to get those modern soon to be dollar books? You guys are really smart lmao
I haven't been to megacon is so long...it was always so fun. Life just makes it harder and harder to have the time and extra cash to make it to megacon.
I love comics
Noticed that you are becoming interested in original art. Consider looking for art of the key 1st app comics you look for (and know a lot about). They are out there..patience is needed though as they are tough to find.some are surprisingly not (yet)expensive.
The dude who stole it would be better off getting the $1000 reward. Lol
Cool adds guys
yo big ups to that vendor's mentality. I would have lost my shit if that happened to me. he's got a very positive outlook.
Ah this happened to one of the comic book stores I went to. He has a lot of key and silver age books hanged on the wall but since he only rents a portion of the shop and allows the owners of the full shop to ring up he is not always there to watch his shop. He realized someone stole one of his wall comics.
That booth is small , so it’s possible that whoever he was attending was in on the heist. To crawl under or over the boxes seems a little difficult to reach the book.
That anamatronic Cart Titan was awesome.
Spend a hundred bucks and put up two cameras on poles to film the booth from 2 sides. And put up some signage to let people know they’re on camera.
How often are books stolen at cons i wonder? It’s crazy to keep your eye on every one at your booth.
I grabbed a few vendor and Megacon exclusives but dropped the most money at The Angry Artist William Russell's booth getting a sketch card, and 2 of his exclusive cover books
Thats good he has a picture of it alot of comic collectors look out for another collectors theyll help out
Those events have cameras everywhere .
11:13 that's inspired by a classic Spidey cover, right? I have a Venom one that is more of a straight up homage to that cover. It's very similar, only venom instead of Spidey, and then the colours are different as well. I forget which issue it is, but it's am pretty recent one I think.
That Agent Venom is gorgeous though.
where comics on the shelf above it valued higher? why was a high price item on the bottom of the shelf?
Man, that sucks. So sorry.
Angelo updates on the stolen AF #15?.
Pretty tough to fence but cool to own. I wonder if its just in some nerds vault on a covetous pillar of supreme honor.
Good thing you have insurance
2:24 is that X-Men #1 a first print? I read recently a 9.6 went for over 700k. I just got the Facsimile version last week, probably the only way I'll ever get to own it.
GOTTA BE security cameras all over that place...
Some people are the worst. I shared this around in a few circles. Maybe they'll find a lead on his slab.
A $20k book should not be so easily accessible
Because of situations like this I put big books up top and small ones above
I’m trying to find that Wonder Woman booty Variant you showed at 10:53 mark.
Can you give me the info for it?
So why in the world would you not have a 2nd person watching your stall while you're addressing other customers? Especially with tens of thousands of inventory? Also, they must have camera's around that place to see who did that, somebody must have it. Or it wasn't actually stolen and was insured.
6:12 I like #3. They're both really cool though.
I’m surprised Greg didn’t trace his signature!🤗
Probably under the table get some alarm sensors
Hey how’d the Polaroid turn out 🤙🤙 thanks for swinging by.
Came out great! Thanks so much😁
The thieves won't be able to fence something that expensive without setting off any alarms. Hope he filed a police report with an exact description of the comic book and its rate and list price. Anyone that tries to sell that, it should be marked like jewelry or weapons right? They call that type of stuff in to see if it was reported stolen first?
It was the flash! Let the sheriffs try but he went zoom to vegas.
This sounds like a distraction play(the buddy acts like they wanna buy a comic and dive the dealer into a conversation then the other guy gets the goods). Best suggestion is have a Hotspot and setup a 180° camera on record.
Dude I was there looking at some of his books thats crazy
Probably not as big a deal for seasoned collectors, but I just secured some great stuff today. I got all the first print connecting covers for "house of x/powers of x" (with also some other first print variants from the set, and all the base covers also) then a 5th print issue 1 connecting covers as well (the black and white one with prof and moira in colour) but then also got the "every mutant ever" connecting issues.
Got them all from the same guy. I paid a lot for them, but he's holding them for me for a week, so more than happy to pay. Really into my connecting cover variants at the moment.
I'm hoping to be able to eventually get all of the connecting variants from each print for powers/house. It's unique in that we have 2 comics that are connected and they go together to make dual covers. I know now we often see connecting covers across multiple books from different series, but the house of x/powers of x ones just feel special because of the connection between the books.
It's definitely more difficult to get this stuff in the UK though, especially since they came out a few years ago.
Nice pickups! Hopefully you will find everything your searching for 😁. Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe.
@@TheComicsDen Thanks.
Yeah I always think about buying a booth but I know that would likely happen to me.
It is definitely something to watch out for especially if you plan on doing it Alone.
@@TheComicsDen Well also I get told that people think I'm not smart. So they do try to pull this on me a good deal. It these sucks overall. People shouldn't do it.
Right, and then you interviewed him again just recently, and at his booth he had his back to a Batman 1 that was sitting at the end of a shelf, right by an opening where space for someone to grab it, and he still did not have his stuff covered in plexiglass or in any secure method -wow, ... seems like there should be more security guards and sellers need to spend more money on precautions -?
Who created the Hulk/Wolverine art at 8:31? Amazing piece.
Hope very much he get's his book back or is somehow blessed another way.
And I always thought comics was for kids!!! HA ha!😂😂
*leaves $20,000 car unlocked in Fresno, CA*.. I could have swore I parked it right here.
That's sad, poor guy ,maybe keeping your more valuable books up higher and only keep them we're you sit only, hope he gets it back ,some people fu,,,ing shits, he won't get to sell that anywhere ❤
This is why I believe comics need to have the same devices that Walmart/Target uses, or better yet utilize a Security camera.
Hope that comic gets found and true easy to spot very rare comic
