  • Fiskars 2 in 1 Rotary Cutter and Ruler has been a game changer for Laura and she would recommend it to anyone who sews, but definitely for anyone with issues with weakness. She offers her review of this product and the blades she uses.

Turning your fabric vertically makes it much easier. Put the 2.5 inches of fabric to the left under the ruler and yardage to the right. You can apply much less pressure. This might help your hands too. Blades last much longer than using regular rotary cutter. Only apply hard pressure when cutting four layers.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. The package really doesn’t explain you need a mat with it. I’m glad I came across your video or I would have ruined my blade for sure. I also didn’t really get how you cut the fabric. I was thinking you use it like a paper cutter where the fabric goes inside the metal plate and then line it up with the ruler measurements. 😂 omg 😆 thank you, this really helps.

Yes the Fiskars Rotary Cutter Ruler was a game changer for me too ! I'm legally blind, have weakness im both shoulders from rotar cuff repair & dexterity problems in my hands & fingers due to diabetes, yet I still need the income & enjoy making baby quilts to sell in my Etsy shop. Thanks for the great tutorial. I've had this tool in my craft room for years but didn't know how to use it

Thanks for explaining how to use the cutter. I have generalized Myasthenia and just recently purchased the cutter/ruler combo for that reason. Grasping a rotary cutter and eye strain are often issues when I cut the pieces for new quilt projects. I cut all the pieces at the beginning. Try as I may I've had problems with some of my cuts being incorrect. This cutter will make things so much easier and accurate. I look forward to starting my next quilt project.

I have this ruler. I think you will find it easier to use if you use the cutter vertically. Put your fabric down with ruler part to the end of the fabric you are going to cut off. (ruler is on the larger piece of the fabric.) You can hold on to the ruler and not have to move your hand to get the cutter to the end. Good luck

I too have this ruler, absolutely love it, but would also only use it vertically as demonstrated on the shopping channel I got it from. I have just ordered the Crafters Companion/Threaders version which is 15.5 " wide, neither of them exactly cheap but worth every penny, my Fiskars one has certainly paid for itself as I' m sure the new one will.

With MG, leaning forward can be problematic due to core muscle weakness..when I move my arm forward (bending slightly) I become off balance b/c I don’t have the strength to resume my “upright”position-with a regular rotary cutter/ruler, I cut at the corner of my table (diagonally) so I don’t have to reach much

No. Now it can get loose, and I have to re-tighten it. But if the blade is inserted correctly and the bolt is snug, it works wonderfully. It's one of the best purchases we've made for the sewing room.

I just bought this Rotary Cutter so I could cut straighter and I'm very excited about it. As good as Fiskars is, I was really disappointed in them for not being wise enough to put the instructions with it on how to use it and not having a safety feature to cover the blade underneath. Fortunately, I can unscrew the circular cover when I am done and cover the blade underneath for safety purposes. Great tool but it needs more up-date on it.
