  • Moovy recently talked to STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS stars Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike) and Rebecca Romjin (Commander Una Chin-Riley) about their Emmy Award nominated spin-off.
    In this little extract we hear Mount talk about that VERY special day where he recorded the famous "space, the final frontier" speech - and a different Starfleet captain stole the moment!

    I'm so fascinated and grateful that Paramount finally managed to produce a very, very good Star Trek episodes again.
    They didn't produce bad seasons with Discovery, but unfortunately they never completely met my taste.
    Picard seasons 1 and 2 were also very nice for me as a Next Generation fan, but they were never on the level of the old series.
    BUT as of Picard season 3 and with Strange New Worlds seasons 1 and 2, they have done the stroke of genius...the miracle...!! Star Trek is finally what it was for decades.
    Finally the passion and dedication to the stories, the atmosphere and the style is back!
    The only thing I would criticize is that not enough time is taken to develop the characters in many (more) episodes. 10 episodes per season are not enough to present a harmonious character development. The actors do their best, you can tell! They hardly have not a chance in the short time. Unfortunately, the high speed caused by the few following makes it seem very rushed!
    BUT whoever is responsible for this at Paramount and the studios involved... keep those people really tight and in your ranks. Pay them good money.

      Same here :-) Didn't "hate" 1st season of Discovery, but was definitely underwhelmed, and when first I heard that Pike and Spock were being featured in the 2nd season of Discovery I thought it sounded like a desperate ploy to get fans onboard. But they were so well-integrated into the plot and character gallery, and the series really took off and stayed good even after their departures.

      @@Eldritch-1 IDIC! In other words: you are obviously entitled to your opinion :-D But after that first uneven season (which was immersed in way too much pessimism and forced violence and contrived drama akin to many modern contemporary shows) the 2nd season really gribbed us with the Pike/Spock storyline, even though the red angel subplot didn't really go anyhwere interesting.
      3rd season was much better, where the show finally found its own footing. And how many of the prior great shows had to spend 2 seasons to find their feet? Which is why we feel it deserves a bit of leeway. And the 4th season was great, a couple of episodes too long but a lovely Trek-version of "Arrival" focusing on the value of communication and diplomacy over warmongering. In other words: very Trekish. It's probably the weakest of the newer series (discounting the first two seasons of Picard), but it still has merit :-)

    Anson Mount is pretty good as Pike. Strange New Worlds isn't as good as TOS. The quippy MCU style dialog needs to go. Totally wrong for Starfleet to be talking like that. It has a few other rough edges, but SNW is much better than Discovery or Picard S1-2.
    I didn't know they were recording while Shatner was up there. That's funny.

    • @MoovyTV
      @MoovyTV  Před rokem +4

      After rewatching lots of TOS and TNG episodes recently, I specifically noticed how much down-to-earth (and somewhat "unprofessional", though not implausible and always charming) banter there actually is among the crew. I noticed it more, because so many had criticized that kind of dialogue in SNW, and I do agree with you that it is a little "much" at times, but I still find it believable - especially in the age of TOS where the dialogue does seem to be a bit more loose and "chill", for lack of better terms, than in the 24th century.
      But yeah, Picard S1-2... damn! Glad they salvaged that (and more) in season 3!

      @@MoovyTVhe banter is fine. They just shouldn't do it on the bridge. And they should never talk back to the captain, especially on the bridge. That doesn't happen in the military.

    • @MoovyTV
      @MoovyTV  Před rokem +2

      @@stevencoardvenice I agree that it goes a little overboard, but I've always felt that Trek has presented a more "lenient", relaxed style of communication and interaction than what we see in the current day military :-) This "clash of styles" has also informed some of the franchise's best episodes, like Chain of Command.

    • @aquariandawn4750
      @aquariandawn4750 Před rokem

      @@MoovyTVwe cannot be forgiving and say things like okay it's a little overboard. A military organization does not allow a little overboard, not when the setting is professional like a bridge or already room or an away mission. Reminds me of the concept of a slippery slope, allowing a small amount opens the door to the avalanche. Today's Trek just is no longer Trek, and in many instances it seems that today's iterations purpose is to tear down what track was and to reimagine it for a new audience. But that's pretty much a whole new show, a new show in a Star Trek wrapper. Nowadays I find myself preferring fan made productions by Star Trek fans. The actors are overweight the sets are cheap the acting subpar, but they do manage great ship scenes, one of the few times I'm grateful for CGI which is overused nowadays. It's much more like Star Trek than the million dollar productions of today. Star Trek fans create Star Trek, people whose goal it is to reimagine someone else's intellectual property for a new audience is not Star Trek. You could just imagine if you were to write a book create a television series or a movie and 50 years down the line some fresh-faced kids come along and decide to reimagine it (rather than creating their own product) they hijack yours. They changed the color scheme the emotional town etc etc, when you get the joy of watching the deconstruction of the child of your mind.
