WHICH STEERING WHEEL IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
If you enjoy getting into a car and racing IRL, then getting a wheel setup for your racing game should be high up on your list of gaming things to buy.
Because I was on a budget, I chose to purchase the best rated steering wheel under $100: the Thrustmaster T80. My hubby, on the other hand, who loves racing and is very particular about how he races, purchased the Logitech G29.
Now that he spends more time playing flight sim games and FPS games, he let me use his Logitech G29. Since I've used both the Thrustmaster T80 and the Logitech G29 wheels to play Gran Turismo Sport, I thought I'd share my experience with you guys with this comparison video.
If you'd like to purchase either of the steering wheels, the links to the products are included below. ***Using these links do help support my channel, so thank you! =)

If you're on a budget and want to experience a steering wheel gaming: Pick T80 - good upgrade from a d-pad controller.
If you want to experience driving closer to a real thing, and having a deep pockets, pick G29 - better upgrade from a d-pad controller.

Thrustmaster T150 is a really nice compromise between these two options. Has 1080 degree rotation and force feedback, but is only £170 rather than the expensive G29 which is £250+

      Don't buy the t80... LOL
Buy the right item the first time you go shopping.
The t80 steering wheel is too small for me, and as she said the pedal's platform keeps getting pushed back. It's sad. I just got mine today.
Save yourself $100 and buy the $250 on your first time.

    Cons for g29 are.
1: it’s super loud (gear on gear brushed motors)
2: ffb is jerky at times (compared to t150 which is belt to gear, or t300 which is belt to belt)
Another pro for g29 is price. For a beginner wheel it’s pretty cheap, but I highly recommend a t150 or t300

Great video for anyone just starting out or considering getting into sim racing, I'm sure it's helped a lot of people so far.
T-80 is the best low budget wheel for sure, especially if you're not sure that sim racing is your thing. You can still have a lot of fun, for the money you'll spend.
If either sim racing isn't for you or you want to upgrade, you can always sell it in the used market.
If you want start in mid-budget, with force feedback, then the G29 starts to run into some competition and you'd be best to watch comparison videos, of wheels in its category.

Had the g29 for over a year. As a starter wheel, its godlike.
Build quality is awesome, had no issue whatsoever, with heavy and vigorous use. Only maintenance was a bit of leather care, for the rim.
Materials are excellent, real leather wrapped rim, metal based mechanism for the pedals. Only weak point are the paddle shifters, although made of aluminium, they feel cheap....
FFB is more than enough, if a bit notchy. And to tell the truth, i never felt it, until i went to a belt driven wheel. It does have a small deadzone, although its negligible.
My 6 speed shifter broke almost 2 months after i bought it... then again, i have a friend that has had his for over 4 years without issues. So, you know, YMMV.
All in all, if you are just starting in sim racing, G29 is your best bet.
Second option, thrustmaster t300. But you might need to uprgrade the pedals. Out of the box, they are shit.

    • @LadyWanderlust
      @LadyWanderlust  Před 3 lety

Thanks for sharing, tom. I'm interested in a shifter but not a major priority rn. I know several top sim racers (not just starting) who are still using the G29 wheel. Overall, I believe that it really is personal preference.

    • @TomGS
      @TomGS Před 3 lety

      @@LadyWanderlust well, yes and no...
      Heh..
Yes, there are several pro real and sim racers that still use the G29 (or the logitech family, really). There are 2 reasons for this. 1, the obvious one, its built like a tank, and its all in one package (well, it used to be, now you need to buy the shifter separately). And, because until this pandemic most real racers didn't really have elaborate rigs and setups.
2: one thing you will notice about the FFB is the small but noticeable notching when you turn the wheel. Now, imagine if you could memorize how many notches you need to catch a slide? You see where im going with this? No? Alright... in the real world, racing teams try to shave as many tenths of a second as they can, by streamlining systems, lowering the weight, etc...
We, as gamers, have to game the game. Learning our controllers, and excelling with them, is one of those ways. Why would i, a master of the G29, move on to another wheel? I would need to relearn the FFB tells, the buttons and rotary encoders.... and now, all the cars feel different, gotta relearn those... and the brakes!
(As a personal note, changing to the thrustmaster TCLM was the biggest learning curve. )
How much time and effort, relearning all of that would take?
It took me about 4 months... from the G29 to the T300. Granted, im a gtsoprt and f1 20-- pleb. But still.
Shifter, its NOT a must have. Although it makes , to me, a more complete simulation of real driving.

Thrustmaster t80 isn't force feedback and only has 240 degrees of rotation compared to the g29 which has 900 and dual motor geared force feedback. Whoever said the ffb is jerry is wrong and doesn't know what they're talking about. I have experience with both of these wheels and the g29 is arguably better. Some might say that it's too expensive , but it is definitely one of the cheapest ffb wheels on the market right now. The t80 features a bungee cord system that tries to replicate the force of turning, which, well, it does terribly the pedals are plastic and flimsy and if you press too hard you might snap the plastic. The g29s pedals have metal plates and the extra spike grip feature for people who use it on carpets.

Lady Wanderlust I have looked online for them but didn’t see anything so I rarely use the wheel now and when I do want to use it I have to try and use a screwdriver to tighten it up.

First of all its not the same price. Second the pedals are not bad and you cleary pushed it with your feet just to make a point for g29. With all my respect young lady, you review is not good at all.
