Please enjoy these compiled clips of one of my favorite movies! I was going for funny clips and I did forget the brain tumor line, but considering what happened irl, not sure if it's appropriate anymore....oy lol.
Other side note, this is not a child-friendly video considering the film's rated R, and the subject matters are extremely dark, but fans of the film know how well this movie handles these subjects...still not child-friendly though. - Zábava

Just as I was beginning to read this, the same exact part came up so I was just reading along lol
I haaaaaate how they changed that in the musical. The whole point is that he's only saying it because his son is dead, and he's playing the accepting, grieving father. The musical missed that cynical message entirely, and made it into, "Not only does he genuinely love the gays, but he was a gay the whole time!"

The TV miniseries had a nice scene about that, where some teacher is showing the kids the whole lockdown procedure for a school shooting and describes the profile of a school shooter while JD stands right next to them.

Its so shocking to me how this portrays people who actually dominate others groups of people so well and uniquely ,twisted the happy ending plot that well liked people (popular people) are some sort of perfect gem and that the protagonist will somehow achieve happiness by getting to the top of the hierarchy and taking down the antagonists, when school problems aren’t fairy tales that revolve around a Mary Sue. The best part is that this movie is a classic, and still has kept its divergent concepts. It was somehow able to maintain that creativity without becoming cliche like other movie plots that were gaining popularity and weren’t yet considered cliche . I guess it was underrated for its real world on-look at the time, and that’s what preserved its quality later because the events in heathers was not used and is considered original and addition to honest and realistic

That's one of those lines you don't understand until you're an adult yourself. Teen movies are always about how teenagers want to have their feelings and ideas taken seriously, but that's not how life works. Teenagers are treated as though they're special and full of potential; adults know it's kill-or-be-killed (figuratively speaking).
I'm not hating on teenagers for having those feelings and frustrations because literally all of us do, and it's a very difficult time of life. But in the end, the message was that the fantasy of solving everything and creating a perfectly happy high school is unachievable BS.
The actors were real teens when it was filmed in 1988 . Winona turned 17 on set, Slater was just 19 . Doherty 17 too. Kim was the oldest at 20

I'll always wonder how Veronica ended up with the Heathers in the first place if she doesn't like them. And I love that the musical explained it well.
She was probably just excited to be invited into the most popular clique of girls in the whole school but didn’t realize she was in over her head. It was probably very similar to how Lindsay Lohan’s character in Mean Girls gets into the Plastics
From what I can tell she used to be more like the other Heathers but over time became more sympathetic to others and began to dislike the Heathers. That was my interpretation though, don't know what the writers intended or anything. In the musical they explain it better by changing it so that we see her join them but never really liked them properly after seeing them be mean.
I’m pretty sure one: her ability to copy handwriting, two: she’s rich like them, three: she was probably mean as well as she still can be mean in the film but matured more that pranks and jokes don’t appeal to her anymore
