Interested to hear that you‘ve got mixed feelings on this one - it’s easily in my top 3.
Iolanda’s vocal performance is an absolute stunner and I think the dancing hits the right mix for the song - it’s an interesting mix of fluid, lyrical dance with more aggressive hip-hop elements that echo the hard and soft features of Iolanda’s styling.
The whole thing feels like a really complete, thoughtful package.

Thank you for a lovely comment 😍 The song is about mental struggles and fighting to overcome them on you own. I get that is not for everyone and it might be thought to get attention from televote. She is on the 2nd half of the 1 semi is a thought one. If she gets to Final I believe that she will do way better with the juries vote. Explaining the choreography, the dancers are/represent the struggle and her demons hence no faces/ the lace and at the end she makes them disappear with her scream overcoming the struggle . Grito = scream . Hugs from Portugal

In my opinion the song is about depression, aknowledging it and realizing that the stregnth to get out of it it's in herself. The dancers are like the inner voices inside her head that gets her down, and at the scream (Grito) at end we can see the dancers getting away.

I think me and Nova have noticed a small detail that other people dont talk about that much: iolanda's subtle use of urban elements (like the clothing or the contemporary dance with some hip hop swag to it), something that is characteristic of her work as a musician (blending tradicional portuguese music with modern beats). Regarding the white lace and as a portuguese person myself, that element really reminces of the table cloths that our grandmothers usually have at their houses, which I find to be nostalgic. I do have to agree that this entry might be a bit too "intelectual" for some people, but I think it could really be a wonderful cathartic moment at the second half of the semi final.
Thank you for reacting to iolanda's Grito (Scream) and remember: We are all flames that still burn #aindaarde
P.S: Trust me... this was one of the best (if not the best) staging at Festival da Canção this year. RTP, f**k you for not giving most songs the staging conditions that they deserved and start doing the damn selection in an arena, specially when its the 60th anniversary of Festival da Canção.

The song 'Grito' by the Portuguese artist Iolanda is a poetic expression of overcoming and resilience. The lyrics talk about the journey of facing challenges and the ability to get back on your feet after moments of pain. The artist uses metaphors to describe personal transformation and the strength that still persists, even in the face of adversity.
At the beginning of the song, Yolanda describes the feeling of carrying the weight of the body, a possible allusion to the difficulties of life. The repetition of the phrase 'one and the other' can symbolize the constancy of the challenges that lie ahead. The expression 'free fall' and the act of surrendering 'little by little' suggest a surrender to the process of change, accepting vulnerability as part of growth.
The 'Mother Star' mentioned in the song can be interpreted as a protective figure, perhaps a metaphor for nature, or a spiritual entity that guides and offers hope. The artist speaks of 'transforming each verse of herself', indicating a profound inner change. The flame that 'still burns' is a powerful image of persistence and inner passion that does not go out, symbolizing the strength and courage that the artist finds within herself to continue to fight and dream.

The dancers are supposed to be her fears and demons and shes letting go of them. I understand your point about the outfit and specially the lace in her head as that is something traditional that we use a lot here so not everyone abroad will like it but as always we do ourselves, if people like it amazing and if they dont and we dont qualify its fine, we feel proud of this entry!

  • @BB6_MM
    @BB6_MM Před 25 dny +1

I do speak Portuguese ❤💛💚 and the message is very clear right from the beginning! Probably the metaphors that she makes are imbued with Portuguese culture, which makes it easier for someone who grew up with Portuguese culture to understand.
There are also references to Portuguese music, and the way that she sings is very expressive; she is really singing from her heart, and you can feel her pain and inner struggle in her voice, connecting her deeply to the public. So, even if you're not familiar with Portuguese culture or/and don't speak Portuguese, she can still resonate on a deeply emotional level. That is also something that is very typical in Portuguese music.
This is my favorite song ❤💛💚 this year, even though I would give 10 points to many others.

I loved "Ai Coração" last year but was a growner, on the other hand, "Grito" clicked instantly with me.
Iolanda already have the whole package ready to ESC (of course, some changes still need to be made, but nothing major), we will have a much better result than last years one (it's not very complicated either 😅) for sure!
    Love from Portugal!

I really liked Saudade, that was a fantastic entry from Portugal. I actually didn't vibe with Sobral much at all, and I found him a little... snobby?
As for this, I like it! I do agree it sort of just ends, that needs a little work, but the vocals are so great and so haunting. There aren't many songs like this one this year so it might do well.

    Iolanda
    scream
    I heard, I felt
    My body charging
    We proceed this way
    One and the other
    One and the other
    One and the other
    I’m free-fall
I’ll tell you when I get there
    Here I surrender myself
    Little by little
    Big steps, stuck at departure
I want to let go of what wounded me
I ask mother star to make the day
    Be born again
    (still burns)
I changed each verse of myself (still burns)
    And surrendered myself to courage
    That still burns
    Still burns
The light hits my chest and opens up
I’m a flame that still burns
    Still burns
    Still burns
Today I want to prove to myself
That I can be whatever I want
To gather those who wish me well around a table
To forgive those who wanted to see me suffer
They won’t fool me! (No! No!)
    I’m all dimensions (I am)
I still remember when I was little
And used to dream first of all
    Big steps, stuck at departure
I want to let go of what wounded me
I ask mother star to make the day
    Be born again
    (still burns)
I changed each verse of myself (still burns)
    And surrendered to courage
    That still burns
    Still burns
The light hits my chest and opens up
I’m a flame that still burns
    Still burns
    Still burns
I’m a flame that still burns
    Still burns
I’m a flame that still burns
    Still burns
    Burns
    Burns
    Burns
I changed each verse of myself
    And surrendered myself to courage

I agree with Olympia, the staging with all the dancing is distracting, plus it doesn’t really translate the meaning of the song so people that don’t speak Portuguese have an idea of what it’s about.
On the other hand I think one of the reasons Maro’s Saudade did well was that it had a simple, honest staging, so it felt like a group of friends getting together and singing, rather than a highly choreographed act, and that resonated with people.
All the best of luck for Iolanda though, I hope it qualifies.
