- Another E&R save from years ago.
Side note: Why do people always feel like they have to declare they're not a Trekkie or Trekker when saying they like a Star Trek movie or show? Just admit you like it, who cares what other people think.
Funny how Ebert predicted Season 3 of Discovery
And, somehow, it made Nemesis look like The Godfather Part II.
Ebert faked his death, travelled into 2020s to watch Disco and then went back to 2002 to do this review
Or season 1 of star trek discovery
Ebert crushed it.
Holy Crap, Roger Ebert wrote ST: Discovery 20 years beforehand. lol
*the orville
@@FussyPickles is an amazing show.
While I admit that "Nemesis" has its flaws, I blame Stuart Baird for the bulk of them. He had no previous experience with the franchise, and removed a lot of the character moments from the film...which any fan will tell you is the very heart of the whole thing.
I’ve been watching Siskel & Ebert clips and stumbled across this - Roeper is so argumentative and defensive compared to Siskel. Siskel & Ebert were respectful of each other’s differing viewpoints and let each other speak.
It depends on the review, because I've seen S&E reviews where the two cut each other off, get argumentative almost to the level of personal attacks and be snarky/dismissive if they disagree. S&E still had the best chemistry though.
The mixed reviews pretty well sum up Nemesis. There were some aspects that I enjoyed, but the overall execution was sloppy. They also cut corners on the ship’s cgi etc, which really doesn’t hold up near as well as the original Star Trek films (with models). The cast were getting long in the tooth too - like they were using a lot of camera tricks to try to make Riker and Troy look younger.
"Retread"? I think Ebert meant "reboot".
Did Ebert just predict Discovery ? As we've learned, sending a turd 1000 years into the future does not make it any less a turd. (Personally I think it made it worse.)
Roeper looks at the camera too much.
Star Trek really went on a hiatus after this film, both in terms of theatrical and tv. It took 7 years before a reboot happened and then 12 years for the tv shows to return. Although, looking back, maybe it really should have just stopped with Nemesis.
Deep Space Nine is exactly where the franchise should have headed, compelling new characters and complex stories even further into the future. Instead, we get a trove of Wrath of Khan knock-offs.
Yeah, if I had known that the reboot trilogy, Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds would happen in their states, I would’ve been kinder to Nemesis back in 2002.
@@ForceMaximus84 Season 3 of Picard is actually pretty good and serves as a great send off for the characters of the TNG series. But yeah, it's been a terrible time for Star Trek since it's return in 2009.
@@tjjordan4207 Maybe, but I would’ve rather seen them sent off by the same team that helped bring them to life: Berman and Piller with Moore and Braga writing it.
@@ForceMaximus84 On that, I agree.
Nemesis was the best TNG film.
I think you misspelled "worst"
I'd like to see a new science fiction franchise rise to the forefront. Star Trek has had too many built-in weaknesses from the beginning, the transporter (save-my-ass-and-do-anything-else machine) chief among them. It's bad for writers and bad science.
Somehow they're both wrong.
It's unfair to compare the TNG tv show with the movies, there complete opposites. The TV show is way better than any TNG movie
It's not unfair. They are all part of the same series.
All the TNG movies are unwatchable. Not a single one had anything close to the compelling storylines of the TV show. They were all basically just dumb action films featuring actors that were too old to be action stars.
Unwatchable is a bit overstated but you're right the movies did not capture the magic of the show
I love TNG and the first two movies. Not a fan of this one. Felt like a long TV episode.
Its a bad reboot of TWOK, though not as bad as the next reboot of TWOK.
I think it's an OK movie when you think about it as a long episode. It's not great, but for a popcorn flick when you have nothing else to do, it's sufficiently entertaining. But First Contact, or The Wrath of Khan it's not.
Its a lot better than the bullshit 2 seasons of picard
Nemesis was the best of the best!
Let’s be honest. Nemesis and Enterprise are looking better and better thanks to the absolute garbage we’ve gotten since then.
I felt that the best one was Star Trek First Contact, Insurrection was good, Nemesis was the weakest of the bunch
How could you say Insurrection was 'good' when Nemesis was stronger than it in every way possible?
