- A quick look at the Bachmann SANTA FE 2508 Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation in H0 Scale, fitted with Bachmann's DCC Sound Value Digital Sound.
This model will be used as a base for an up-and-come WW1 ROD (Railway Operating Division) Locomotive Project, were I will be back-dating the model to recreate a WW1 ROD 'Pershing' Baldwin 2-8-0.
Hope you enjoy!
A beautiful looking locomotive with excellent detailing and great sound from the horn. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg! Really is a nice bit of kit! Looks a bit different now that I've done a bit of work on it ;)
awesome locomotive.
Thank you very much!
A beautiful loco certainly worth owning. IMHO one of the best products Bachmann ever built. I believe it is actually an Illinois Central engine. Excellent choice for your coversion since it was in fact built by Baldwin.
Thanks for the info! Really is a great model! Certainly looks a bit different now she's in ROD form, hopefully will get the full video of the conversion up some time in the not to distant future.
Great sound
Sure does :)
I could hear the steam air compressor but it wasn't visible on this side. It would be nice to see how they've modeled it. The sound of it was surprisingly accurate.
Ah yes, was on the other side of the model. Really is quite big, as its right in the centre of the running plate. The model looks a bit different now that I've finished with it ;)
Is that sound that occasionally sounds some sort of air brake, because I've heard it on clan line and tourska at the ngr
Ha! Yes, it cost a fair bit sadly. Got a good discount though ;) Yes, I believe so. The pump is mounted on the running plate on the other side of the model
Woah! How much did that cost?????
I one of those babies, named her after a high school sweetheart
Glad you like it! Really is an excellent model
I'm taking a break from working on this very model right now. There's a good black and white pic of the prototype online that I'm going by to modify it to a 30s era version. This model is a decent starting point but once you see what the real one was, you realize that almost all the details are pretty generic and/or not placed well.
The front light markers are nowhere near where they should be. I removed them and bought brass ones. The dome with the numbers on it needs to be taller. The dome behind that shorter. Got a different brass whistle and put it on the side of the rear dome. Had to add another dome. I scratch built the traditional 3 sided number boards and decaled them. Would have bought these if I could find a pair. These aren't even on the model and it's a huge detail right on top of the boiler. I also replaced the cow catcher and modded it using the front steps from the model and put in a nice realistic Seargent steam coupler on the front with an air hose that looks way more realistic. Added brass sun shades and top hatch. Cut off a lot of the details that came on the model. Had to add the cupped light shade on the head light. Just cut a piece of brass and glued it on. There's all kinds of stuff to add to it if you would like it to be more prototypical. Maybe I'll post a vid when I'm done.
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to it
Sounds like a complex but fun project to embark on! 😀
Got one yesterday for £50 not shure if its sounds fitted but its dcc ready
Wow! What a bargain! Where did you find that too?
@@SDJR7F88 a dealer friend of mine I also got a Bachmann B30-7 for 25😁
The spectrum one was way better
Indeed, however this one does not look like this anymore, as I bought it for a ROD project ;) here's a link; czcams.com/video/3TKg9P0M0ec/video.html
