My Amputation Story!
Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel has documented my journey adjusting to life with a visible disability as an amputee, and continues to be a haven to discuss physical and mental health!

The SOUND when the liner came off, I’m dying 😂
Glad your leg is feeling well enough to go biking, I love a good bike ride!!
Right?! She could do the gym the other day. So very cool she could bike
It was added post production
That *pop* was impressive!
Truly an epic SCHLORP!
@@Randys4g no, it really sounds like that. I have one too.
sincere condolences for the inconvenience but also that sound was AMAZING
It sucks.
...I'll see myself out. 😅
That sound is so cool and strangely satisfying. Lol
THAT SOUND I cackled 😂😂
I have watched this multiple times just to keep hearing the sound of the liner coming off your leg. Every time I hear it I make this noise of delighted disgust. It’s amazing. Thank you for sharing
Love that a fellow cycler happened by just in time to see you pop off your liner. That made me hysterical for some reason.
As a person with Large assets on the front, iykyk, i use body powder spray to keep the sweat at a manageable level on super hot days in Denver.
The powder could mess with the seal from the liner to keep the prosthetic on unfortunately 😅.
as someone with large assets on the front who lives in the swamps of florida, please share the brand names of your secrets
@@cursedwithsetience4017 thank you for that info i had no idea!
@@grey6703 just walmart brand body powder spray. Unscented antiperspirant also works wonders in the humidity
@@grey6703seconded! Large assets in Ohio. Lol

Jo's sleeve: *SQQQUUUOOAAAAGGHHHHH*
"Get back on the bike," sounds like a good motto for life. Things get difficult or weird? Adapt and get on with living. You're awesome, Jo.
I had the same thing happen to me about 4 years ago. I literally sweated my leg off. When I remember to do it, I use some really strong anti perspirant to prevent it.
i’m sorry i chuckled at the phrase “sweat my leg off”😂
@goawayimhigh no need to be sorry, it was kinda funny.
The amount of core control you have, removing your leg and not falling over! 🤯 I have two legs and I can’t raise one without falling over.
" And Get Back On The Bike "
The Slogan Of Jo 👍👍👍
Stay safe Jo.
Glad you can ride your bike. Bike safe Jo.
So what I'm getting from this is that you can cycle with a prosthetic leg. This makes me really happy.
I found the pin socket pulled off more when sweaty versus the compression sleeve. For me it also started to mishape the bottom of my residual limb and stretch it out. Had to change away from it
Wow you don't let hard knocks hold u back!!! Wish I could be as tenacious and motivated as you! Thanks for being a great encouragement for others!!
yo i absolutely LOVE biking!! it makes me super happy knowing that your amputation hasnt stopped you enjoying it!!
Tenacity and determination look great on you Jo! That sound though! I about fell over when I heard it!
I work at Walmart and I get so hot and sweaty that my liner falls alot!!! I have to fix my leg 2 to 4 times in a shift during the summer.
I’m 5 months into my amputation comeback and these videos are maximum inspiration for me. Thank you!
EEEEEEEEE! You are awesome! The liner sounded like a cork coming out from a bottle!
I love that you just wipe it off and hop back on the bike 🚲 ❤❤❤❤❤
I wear special sweat socks that I got from my prosthetist under my liner. They work pretty well.
Damn you're impressive. Nothing stops you, you improvise, adapt and overcome - AND you make excellent video of the process. WTG girl
Two things, carry a small (2oz) spray bottle of alcohol, spray some on your leg & some inside the liner. Wipe off with your hands & put everything back together.
Next try Dove Dry spray antiperspirant & spray on your leg in the morning let dry 100% and put in as normal. 20 years as a below the knee amputee both practices really work.😊
That answers a question I had subconciously. Nice to see you have an easy fix and kept on going
Love to see you getting out and having fun.
Really happy to see you outside!
That SOUND!
Can you make a video about the costs associated with an amputated limb, for those with and without proper insurance? In your experience, I mean
There's a video of her, where she talks about the cost of her (then) new prosthetics, liners, footshells ect. But I can't remember the exact title by now 😅
I love your attitude and I am learning so much my husband btk since 3/15/21. You are a shining light for all to see!
My husband injured at lumber mill in scotia ca 3/15/21 day that chgd things - but Dan is great and you are such a great help!! Thank you!! ❤
So glad you're up for biking! That makes me so happy! But also, that sound was so satisfying.
You are amazing! And inspirational, too!
I'm impressed with your balance!
Go Jo! Cycling is perfect for maintaining your fitness. ! Love from the UK. ♥️
The liner releasing was a straight cartoon sound 😂
Your single leg control is impressive keep it up lady this has been helping me go through my how do I make it stop hurting or itching because I swear to God it itches and hurts and nothing helps
So much to learn on this amputee journey!
So proud of you and all that you’ve accomplished through the trials and tribulations. There is absolutely ”NO LIMITS”.
I have similar liners, they are popular. I think that is one of the few flaws in them. You sweat you come flying out! 😅
You have good balance skills
You are incredible 😍, you inspire me😊
I'm glad you're feeling well enough to do biking.
Has me thinking of how to run thin flows of air through the liner... I'll get back to you.
This might be quite a challenge, since it's basically the airtight fit of the liner that's keeping it on.
@daanwilmer agreed. I got some promising results using silicone bands you'd find in thigh stockings. I'm trying to determine "grip strength" differences between horizontal vs. Vertical placement. Kind of a pain to measure.
Freedom🎉 I almost expected you to dump the sweat out
I never thought about you biking before. Great!
I usually have a strap that helps keep my prosthetic in place when I ride my push bike and dirt bike. Once, I simply forgot the strap. A few hundred metres up the road, on the dirt bike, the leg fell off. No drama, i managed to get back to the leg safe. Straight back to the shed, I have not forgotten the strap again. Being a through knee amputation, the prosthetic doesn't sit in a great position for bikes.
I did step off a tractor into the mud, I didn't realise that the leg had sunk in a little. I stepped forward, and bingo, there was a prosthetic sticking out of the mud.
The guys and I had a great laugh. Keep up the great work. The new amputees might learn a little. 🙂
So a pair of liners might help-clip one on the handlebars. When the one you're wearing gets drenched, swap out, put the other one up on the handlebars to air dry.
🤷♂️
The thing sounded like a suction cup for a second there 😅
Your literally gorgeous omgggg✨✨✨❤️❤️
reminds me of firefighting when you'd get sweat soup inside your mask 😆
That pop!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Prosthetic legs look so badass. If there wasn't any pain connected to the whole situation it would be perfect I'd imagine. And if it was like screwed to one's remaining leg so it can't come off 😅
So happy to see the helmet. Thank you for staying safe!
that sound made me recoil omg
Love your spirit.🎉🎉🎉
Wow, it never dawned on me that you would have so many specialized legs. Thanks for letting us into your life!
That suction pop reminds me of that meme with the guy popping his mouth and saying NOICE 😂😂
The sound 😂😂😂
Lotion that turns to powder has helped me many times in this sort of situation
Miss, Somebody should get you a Timex T-shirt. If anyone "Takes a licking and Keeps on Ticking! " it is you, our inspiring, ( and perspiring ) hostess.
Pretty impressive balancing! Guess you have a lot of practice with it
This is why I still feel comfortable with a waist belt as an above knee amputee. The thought of it coming off gives me anxiety.
You are one amazing woman.
I'm sending My Prosthtatist these videos as I watch telling him I want sweat socks too.
Had that problem when working out, I stopped trimming the length of my liners and it's way better.
"Oh hang on, my leg is falling off again. I'll just be a minute."
Thoughts and prayers to that sweaty prosthetic liner😅🙏🏽🤣
😮😂 shut the door! Must be such a weird feeling when paddling...😳
I'm a BK amputee and I've had this happen after a long walk. I can't ride a bike. Stay safe
I'd try some spray on antiperspirant?
If it works for chub rub it might stop your leg from falling off
My leg gets very sweaty and my leg slips off or when I do take it off I usually have a big blister where it was suctioning and sliding up and down
What a kick in the ass that was! I just have2 bum knees ans you are putting me to shame. Well done.
i LOVE your tattoo!
I'm a amputee and my leg sweats and it falls off and i fell down on my butt..... hard to walk in summer bc your prosethtic leg falls off bc of sweating...I went to my Dr appt and was leaving and my leg fell off and I had to ask for help with a wheelchair bc I could not walk ...
A now late friend had had his leg removed a little below the hip. His problem with heat was that his prosthetic had hydraulic lines that ran near the leg, and when it got hot, they got really hot.
Was giving some antiperspirant that is applied the night before to cut back on that. Have yet to try it, but it's worth looking into. Better then the leg farts. 😅
Awesome ❤
You are in great shape! Good girl! Isn't it really fun to ride your bike. When you are done you can get something good to eat and not get fat because you burnt so many calories earlier. Love your videos, thank you.
Get liner liners. Basically they are absorbent socks that go inside the liner to soak the sweat. You lose a lot of skin contact to the liner, so have less surface area holding it in place, but the thick band you have holding it is less likely to get wet and slippery. I don't know if I would want one for 5 hours of intense activity, since there is a little more friction on the skin at times, but they are nice for a more normal length workout or for a longer time of less intense activity where you may still be swearing just from the heat, but not moving as much.
I feel like this should make me feel more motivated to do stuff, exercising, even just biking here and there. (Because you are freaking awesome amazing and inspiring!)
But I still can’t be bothered to put the new handlebar grips on my bike 🫣.
You go get ‘em! Conquer the world- (we’d all be better off for it)- I will loyally cheer you on, loudly, but from a fixed position 😬.
Whenever I'm at gym and working out, I definitely sweat more inside my liner just because the skin can't breath and everything is so tight inside. But AKA here and can't just take it off that easily 😂 wish I was a BK instead
Go Jo
I carry a small refillable perfume bottle size of lipstick with rubbing alcohol in it just for those occasions! Wipe squirt squirt and wipe and good to go
The leg muscles we all want.
You are a beauty! - amputee not a factor one way or other.
I have this same exact issue with my leg
Would talcum powder help??
Scary.
My dad has the exact same problem. He carry’s a sweat towel to dry his stump and the inside of the liner.
wow
My father says that the pulling away on the bottom creates a pull on the skin at the top which can lead to soreness and skin irritation but Vaseline around the top helps
Please be safe when riding your bike.🙏
Technology like prosthetics are awesome
So effectively your leg is falling off your leg? That’s a pretty good sentence!
Put a sweat band just above your liner. It'll catch the sweat running down your leg before it gets to the liner
I saw another video saying to use anti perspirant to stop it from slipping of as much.
Girl my leg does the same😂😂😂😂😂😂
I actually keep a few liners extra long for just this purpose and they still get so sweaty they almost fall off
I surf with a guy we call 1 Foot Frank.
Hes got a leg he wears just for surfing. Its got probably 12 inches or rubbery neoprene cuff to hold it on in the water and when he wipes out.
It makes a big sound like that when he takes it off.
Saw tiktok story of the guy going 100 mph on his motorcycle. Guess what can rip off in high speeds. Homeowner hears something and sees the guy in front of his house on the ground. Guys asks him to get his leg. So he sets off 300 yds down street fetching the prosthetic. Amputee has to take off his pants to get prostatiti back on. Cops arrive: Are you okay? Do you need something. Guy's sitting on the ground w/pants around his remaining ankle. Well, officer, my leg flew off you see. Yes, I see that! 😅😄
I here all these things about Roll on antiperspirant on the support Group your page directs us too. Please elaborate more on this subject.
