- The dirndl - a low-cut women's folk costume - is a common sight at Oktoberfest celebrations, but increasingly the traditional dresses from Bavaria are gaining popularity in other parts of Germany where it used to be unthinkable to don the apparel.

They showed the shop where I bought my dirndl in Munich, I would have to say it is one of my greatest purchases ever!
I was the Oktoberfest Queen in 1986, in the Dandenong show grounds in Melbourne Australia. I'm so happy that dirndl are yet again in fashion. When in Germany in 1987, my aunt was very upset that I wanted to wear my Salzberger dirndl in Hannover. they were terrible snobs of that idea .In Bavaria people wear it often to work, as in Austria. I dearly hope that this trend keeps on going, as well for the handsome men in their Stier suits.

Bavarians love to see foreigners wear dirndls and lederhosen, but we gossip about people from northern Germany (Prussians) when they wear it XP

Dirndls were not traditionally low-cut, or skimpy-sleeved. Germans used to be very strict, prude Christian types, particularly in Bavaria.

Seit meinem Film "Wiesnkollektion 2011" habe ich hier in den endlosen Weiten des Netzes ganz viel über Mode und ihre Hintergründe gelernt. Eine faszinierende Welt.
Fragil, schnelllebig, vergänglich und wiederum mächtig und sehr bewegend.
Und ich bewundere Menschen, die an den Schalthebeln der Mode sitzen, denn würde das Gefühl einmal richtig trügen, wären die Folgen immens.

The lower the neckline, the more popular the dirndl. And you don't have to be a bikini model to wear one. (American women would probably reject it due to it's femininity.
