      Agreed; I love Mikotoba more than Holmes tbh. Not that there's anything wrong with Holmes -- this is my favorite version of him we ever see, when he's actually serious and using all of his smarts -- but I never expected for Mikotoba to become as important as he is, and it's just so nice to see how he can easily keep up with Holmes' thought process (compared to Watson in the original stories who, while no means dumb, iirc was always just mostly following behind Holmes and doing whatever he asked of him) and be on equal footing (ha) with him. Plus it's just neat to be playing as an older character in an AA game for once; I would love to get a spinoff prequel where we get to play as best dad Mikotoba. ❤️

    • @peppercat1887
      @peppercat1887 Před 2 lety +32

      This needs further elaboration.
      During the Golden Age of Detective Mysteries, someone called Ronald Knox created the most influential rules that writers follow.
      It's called the Knox Decalogue.
      10 Golden Rules to follow if you want to write a detective story, and Knox created a extremely tyrannical reign where it was regarded that if you don't follow those rules, you essentially aren't to be taken serious as a writer, essentially shutting down many who wanted to follow into the footsteps of the great Doyle.
      And while some of his rules have undeniable credibility, there is one rule that has damaged the Sherlock Holmes stories forever.
      Rule No. 9.
      In which he literally says the partner of the Detective must be stupid and have intelligence below that of the readers. And he named Watson as the example for this.
      Because Knox held such power and influence due to his Decalogue, it created a unbelievable misconception for hundred years now.
      The misconception that Watson is an incompetent and stupid fool who is in the shadow of Holmes.
      But that was not the case at all.
      Sherlock stood out due to his character and his skills but Watson himself was well able to carry his own weight and more. He brought up ideas himself and spotted things that even Holmes missed and Holmes in return did the same.
      Both of them complimented each other perfectly.
      Watson was never in the shadow of Holmes, they were meant as equals, just having different fields of expertise to assist the other.
      This is what made them legendary.
      Where one of them had gaps and errors, the other one filled them just how they actually worked together in deductions.
      Which brings me to the Game itself.
      Cause this here is a love letter as what it did is give Knox the middle finger and reestablishes Watson as the highly intelligent and capable he actually was meant to be.
      And furthermore, they pulled Watson out the shadow and genuinely made him Holmes' as he is meant to be.
      It is difficult to put into proper words without wanting to be pretentious but consider that the stories of Holmes and Watson are legendary pieces of fiction which received a big dent due to Knox.
      A pride of Britain and works many people look up to.
      And Ace Attorney honored it by putting Watson back where he belongs.
      At the side of Sherlock as a true friend and competent partner.
      The legendary duo is complete again with this and I personally hope this game does the unthinkable and shatters the Rule No. 9 for good, reestablishing Watson to the world as he was meant to be.
      So in a very important way, this game and this moment is culturally rich for what it does to a giant of literature.

      Genuinely could not stop smiling throughout the entire scene and for a good ten minutes afterward. I kept thinking to myself "goddamn is this scene perfect". The game felt like it was toying with the idea of Herlock being intentionally obtuse to teach Ryunosuke the ins and outs of deduction and to me this scene proves that to be true. When he absolutely needs to uncover the truth ASAP because Ryunosuke's success depends on it, he nails his deductions and twice saves the day. The hologram thing was pretty farfetched to me, but this moment just hit it out of the park.
      I also loved seeing these two working together during the scene. It ties in so well to the game's themes of the importance of trust in one's friends and the pursuit of justice. This is the climax of the duology to me and what elevated Sholmes' character to my absolute favorite.

    This has become one of my favorite moments in the whole AA series. Not just bc the music is great and the scene is super satisfying, but also because it marks a great moment for Sholmes' character. This final deduction proves that while Sholmes can be prone to flights of fantasy, in the darkest hour he will pull through. Not only does he not make a single mistake during this deduction, but he's actually genuinely clever in provoking Strogenov to leak information on accident. Like when Strogenov says "Why would I try to protect Eastern stranger?" "Ah, so we're talking about the same man, I see. Good.". This whole scene tells us so much about Sholmes. He may joke around a lot and he definitely has horrible memory, but his success in this deduction leads me to believe that a lot of the mistakes he's made in previous deductions were either because he was intentionally teaching Naruhodo how to make deductions (or he was just having too much fun in his own world). When it really matters tho, Sholmes doesn't mess around, and with his trusty partner at his side, he might as well be unstoppable.

  • @dysonsphere2394
    @dysonsphere2394 Před 2 lety +102

    This one scene elevates every other dance of deduction in the game. At first, in GAA1, you're led to believe that Sholmes isn't all that he's cracked up to be. As Ryunosuke, you're led to correct Sholmes' incorrect deductions, in an act two. All this time, you're led to believe Sholmes is just bad at what he does, but in reality, the issue is that he just doesn't have his trusty partner, ready to deduce with him.
    And this scene exemplifies the sheer chemistry between the two. So strong is their bond that they don't even need an act two. They bounce off of each other so fluidly that there isn't a single mistake in their deduction.
    You weren't doing Sholmes' job because he was bad at it. You were helping fill in the missing puzzle piece.

    This was SO GOOD! Where to begin? The upbeat version of the Sholmes theme (which I informally refer to as "Shomes's True Theme") is just pure joy. I like how Sholmes lets Mikotoba take the lead on deductions. I LOVED the moment at 6:00 where Mikotoba goes "I don't know how to approach this one" and Sholmes coaches him through it. It's just really familiar, comfortable, and collaborative. Totally did not see the literal dancing coming. . . so that's why it's called the "dance of deduction"! My favorite moment in DGS

    I've said it before and I'll say it again: This version of (S)Holmes is a much more accurate adaptation of how he was in the source material than a lot of the modern adaptations that depict him as this cold, calculated badass. He's always been eccentric, to the point of coming off as weird to others, but with an underlying, undeniable sense of genius.
    In that sense, Sholmes is far from a bad interpretation of the character.
