Why did Magnus Carlsen call his opponent? | Carlsen vs Karthikeyan | Qatar Masters 2023

  • World no.1 Magnus Carlsen faced off against 2611 rated Karthikeyan Murali in the 7th round of the Qatar Masters 2023. Magnus played boldly and imaginatively, but not 100% correct chess. Would he manage to escape unscathed or would his opponent punish him for that. Check out the game along with the commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

      He knows indian players are really sincere and they will never cheat,there are a lots of talent in india who are underrated,this was one of the examples,top players generally don't know about lower rated players strategy and magnus isn't preparing nowadays and also these young players are tactically very sharp,always look for sacrifices and magnus sometimes does mistakes in calculating tactical positions.

    • @Ponchiboy444
      @Ponchiboy444 Před 9 měsíci +27

    • @kasparov9944
      @kasparov9944 Před 9 měsíci +10

      Fischer didn't get overtaken since he quit in 1972 at the peak of his powers, Kasparov was world No.1 in 2005 when he retired and even though he lost the title to Kramnik in 2000 he still dominated all the tournaments winning 10 in a row up to Linares 2002. Carlsen has 281 classical losses now compared to only 108 for Kasparov.

    Congratulations Murali ❤ and best wishes for the upcoming rounds.
    I think Magnus losing in the tournament twice against the 2600's is a sign he is facing difficulties in trusting his instincts. That might be happening because he is getting older and losing the zist to play the classical games as what he said in the world cup 2023. His interest in classical chess and the enthusiasm in defending in titles might already got to extinction and now he just wants to enjoy chess by playing rapid and blitz form of game on OTB.
    Don't take me on wrong side.
    I am very happy that our super talented played Murli Karthikeyan beats Magnus Carlsen with black pieces.
    It is just an opinion that magnus is not anymore interested in playing this form of chess and defending titles because he has almost achieved every big title at least 1 time.
    I hope magnus plays like we fans demand.

      I agree tremendous approach to narrating the game. It's off course not live but his comments are still emulating live possibilities without using computer and hindsight for belittling the players, only to enlightened the game a little, he never let go that they are live and he is doing post game hindsight analysis. For me the second a commentator uses computer to negatively judge a player that commentator becomes obnoxious and detestable. A lot of them do that especially GM's. Sagar never does that.

    Carlsen is such a fair player. Called his opponent to resign the game. Some old timer, when he had losing position, he just left playing hall and left his clock ticking until it flagged. Rumor is Alekhine was one of sore losers who occasianally did that when he needed another drink more that humiliating handshake, ( he was not the most humble and modest man in chess world )but of course I was not there to confirm it.
    2 losses in classical tournament, it does not happen often to Carlsen.
    I think it is more about motivation than about his decline of playing strenght. He still likes to play chess, but I think he does not like classical format any more. Too much preparation, too much memorizing new long opening lines, less room for improvisation and sudden brilliant ideas.
