After hearing a couple of this gentleman's calls, I'd be interested to hear how he is now. It sounds like he may be struggling with thinking he has OCD, which I can understand...I find myself constantly feeling the need to continue to analyze this condition...get stuck in ruminating on "what if it never gets better?", Which in turn keeps the cycle going as it's gas on the fire. It definitely can be exhausting
Since there is no bridge between anxiety and the development of other mental illnesses, there's no reason to worry about that. But worry is a behavior that creates issues with anxiety. Consequently, worrying about developing a more serious mental illness is actually just anxiety.

Since worry is an example of anxious behavior that stresses the body, and since anxiety symptoms are symptoms of stress, yes, worrying about your symptoms can cause them to persist (or worsen) and cause anxiety to persist (or worsen). I'm going through the same thing currently. Very well could be related to anxiety/depression.
