He seems to stand tall in the pocket and makes quick reads. He’s precise. Every throw was litterally placed perfectly. In the nfl those traits are massive. Yeah it’s cool to be fast and athletic but I would much rather have a quarterback that can make quick reads and is composed in the pocket. Pickett seems absolutely legit.
Agreed. I mean the most successful QB to ever do it looks like a giraffe when he starts running around. Accuracy and decision making is most important for an NFL QB.
I truly believe in time he will advance to 1st string quarterback

Like the GOAT (these days) nearly all his passes were on the shorter side. The one where he aired it out looked ok, but correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it those big plays that really determine your ceiling as a QB? He seems efficient and is a decent scrambler when the pocket collapses, but he’ll have to show he can come up big when the pressure is on.
As a Pitt student, it's still absolutely wild to me Pickett is in the big leagues at this point. He has a long career ahead of him, and I am excited to see him grow even more. We'll miss him over here!

This is becoming more and more apparent as the weeks go on. Honestly I have nothing against Mitch but he just isn’t firing up the team. They don’t seem to rally around him and that’s something I noticed even in preseason. Kenny looked like he brought life and energy to the team and that’s something Mitch can’t seem to deliver.

I think Steelers fans are jumping to conclusions with Pickett. Most of those passes looked like easy passes. Wait until he tries those passes against starting defenses. You will see interceptions, dropped passes and passes for no to little gains. If he was so great than why is he still 3rd in the depth chart.

@@Andrew-cu3xd I think you don't know what you're talking about. He barely played this preseason. He had like 4 or 5 drives in the past 2 games combined. He has outstanding receivers, and is really accurate.

Who else is here after 2 weeks of suffering under Mitch Trubisky hoping to god we give this kid a shot sometime soon. Cannot stand watching Mitch miss or ignore deep open receivers any longer. Mitch = Brock Osweiler.
I’m trying to watch the offense as a whole and Mitch has been bad but man even with Kenny in at QB these receivers aren’t really THAT open. Some of these throws look really risky still. The system just is not good.
Hopefully we can establish the inside running game and Canada has some play actions and read options up his sleeve but with the inside runs getting stuffed we have to throw and these pass concepts just aren’t it. We’re barely one dimensional.

Just lost to the Browns. Rewatching these highlights. I can’t believe we’re still not playing this kid. Steelers went safe with Mitch. Good move when your HOF qb retires, but it’s time for Kenny to start. Not all the blame lies with Mitch though. Poor guy takes all the heat for an overrated OC. Same thing happened to Ben.
it makes you appreciate how bad ben was late in his career. there are some very simple throws here that you look at and think "man ben prolly doesn't make that last year."
Ben could still do it but the issue was his ability to move and make throws like he used to.. it was just to inconsistent.. Ben mad some great throws late in games last year.. he was the best QB in the nfl in the 4th quarter last year

4:32 He has an excellent feel for zone coverage. He is throwing to a spot, and trusts his man will get there. This is an unbelievable trait to have as a 1st year QB. He needs to start now.
Absolutely. After todays game I feel like Mitch has some flashes however what he doesn’t have is the fire and leadership. You can see it on the field and off. Nothing against Mitch but what this team needs is a quarter back to rally behind to bring life and energy to the team. Honestly we haven’t had that even with Ben in his final seasons. Regardless of talent I think Kenny will bring something that Mitch doesn’t have.

I feel sorry for the recievers the last few weeks and last season there morale is thinning especially for Dionte Johnson and a few others, Tomlin needs to really consider starting Pickett against some of these harder teams coming up on the schedule because tribisky not gonna carry them on his back..

Kenny is laser accurate in this series. For all of you guys wanting Mitch, watch Kenny from last year at Pitt, where he took them to the ACC championship.
I think Mitch startings is great to get the O line ironed out. This is a rebuilding year so I don't expect much but when Kenny starts (yes When), it's going to be exciting.

Mitch is a backup QB. Solid too. But Kenny is the future. Poise, accuracy, mobility, & clutch. He brings the spark that this young team needs. Tomlin will switch but he has to build the foundation first. In due time Yinz🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛
As a Steelers fan, I’m going to root for him to be great, obviously. As a realist, I am NOT sold on him, + he’s gonna need a better o-line ASAP, and I’m glad he’s not starting week 1, 2022.

Honestly guys...Kenny threw easy passes that Ben could still make with a beer in his hand. Kenny's passing distances thrown relative to the line-of-scrimmage (LOS) were:
1, 1, -2, 2, 3, 10, 8, 6, 5, 1, 8, 3, 3, 9, 4, 11, 0, 7, -2, 5, 27, 15, 7, & 4. With a total of 24 passes, Kenny had an average of 5.6 yards beyond the LOS. This is actually worse than what Ben was providing us. This guy is NOT impressive. We could get a high school kid to make these throws. Hopefully he gets better since we have the most talent we've ever had on offense since EVER..

Would like to see a pass more than 1 11 yard pass downfield but what pocket presence great job avoiding pressure and throwing on the run. I'm a packers fan but I'm exciting to see what he can do!

@@losauce521 what 2 over 20 yards? The other 90 percent of his completion was a check down or within 10 yards. I've watched every single preseason snap of his and think he's pretty great but with playmakers like Pickens and Johnson I would've like to see more downfield shots.
I agree. he looks good but I wish we saw him throw some more deeper throws, especially in preseason games where the windows are wider. He only really had two throws in this vid that were more than 10 yards

I'm extremely frustrated that Kenny is now going to the bench to rot away the rest of the season behind a journeyman bridge QB. He's 24 and started fifty college games. Sitting behind Trubisky won't do a thing to help him. He needs snaps and he needs gameplay experience. He said so himself. Not getting his first NFL playting time at age 25 or 26. Such a waste.

That oline if it does get better will be because it better adapts to trubisky and the game calls when he is in. That accomplishes nothing in Pickett's development. He is the best qb on the team and gives the Steelers the best chance to win.

Not bad at all. The only thing I noticed is how he stares at the receivers a little too long. Defenses will figure that out quick in the NFL.

The back shoulder passes in man coverage has nothing to do with that. The rest of it is timing before the defense can react.

@@alvinjohnson2402 I'm not saying he'll blow up immediately but after the tendencies are studied the QB continues to study as well. That's why Pickett was drafted, because they know his work and study ethic. Many young QBs don't have that maturity

But I've seen too many great young QBs come out of college and light the NFL up the first part of the season then after elite teams get enough film (exp. he's perfect with accurate throwing to his right 20/30 yds downfield with a 3 second dropback) Defenses will take that away. trust me, Pickett could be the next coming of "Big Ben" without the drama OR he could be a few devastating sacks from becoming a Sam Darnold!

That would be the missing piece that could allow the Steelers to go late playoffs or Super Bowl.

Pickett looks good. He is the player Tomlin drafted, accurate, efficient, and steady. He will be behind Trubisky this year, which will teach him a lot.
We can go 10 and 7 if we take one from Cincinnati and Baltimore.

I don’t know how it’s possible, but the offense looks more vanilla now than it did in the preseason with Pickett at the helm. We’re not using the middle of the field at all currently. Pickett was owning that area of the field and he was using motion effectively, and he even commits to running the ball better than Trubisky so he doesn’t get caught from behind for a sack or just a 1 yard gain.
@@colten53 I feel the exact same way. Mitch is playing too safe instead of just trying to win the game plus it doesn't help with our predictable play calling. How many times are we going to run that stupid jet sweep.

Well, really this class hasn't been that good. Pickett and Ridder are the only two that stood out from the pack. I would say Howell has the highest ceiling for potential and had some moments, but still looked kinda raw. Willis is still pretty far out from being a realistic starter, if ever. Corral looked horrible.
Canada’s scheme sucks. Throw the damn ball down the field. Pickett needs to get used to the idea of calling audible go routes ASAP.
