Teresa Teng 鄧麗君 テレサ.テン: 難忘的一天 (An Unforgettable Day)

It is 8 May again. Today is the 28th death anniversary of the late Taiwanese songstress, and my most respected idol, Teresa Teng (1953 - 1995). She may have been gone for 28 years, but her songs are still very much alive in the Chinese and Japanese communities around the world today. In the 1980s when I was still a kid, her songs were the very first ones that I listened to, thanks to my mom and her records. That is why she has always been a big influence in my life. Whenever I’m feeling down her angelic voice is like a good old friend singing soothing words into my ears. A pity she was gone too soon.
As a tribute to her, every year on this day I’ll play a solo piano version of her song. This year I’ve chosen 難忘的一天 (An Unforgettable Day), a Mandarin song sung by Teng as the main theme song of the 1979 Taiwanese film of the same title. The movie starred Brigette Lim (林青霞) and Charlie Chin (秦祥林). The song was also recorded in her 1979 album “甜蜜蜜”. During her lifetime, she had never performed this song live. A simple melody with a simple arrangement, with Teng’s vocal. What a beautiful song.
