  • The Train Robbers (1973) directed by Burt Kennedy features Ann - Margret as a widow, who enlists the aid of three gunmen in retrieving the gold her husband had stolen. Although not the strongest of John Wayne's westerns, it remains an enjoyable addition to the Duke's later movies. The rousing score was provided by the underrated Dominic Frontiere, which is represented here by a short suite.

    Awesome cast.. John Wayne.. Ben Johnson.. Rod Taylor.. Christopher George.. Ricardo Montalban.... May they all Rest in Peace. And Ann - Margaret... You're forever beautiful for me.

    Saw this again after a 30 year or so hiatus. It's not "Hondo", "The Searchers" or even "The Cowboys" but just a damn good Duke Wayne western. Really the last time Duke looked good before the respiratory and heart illnesses set in a few years later. Top shelf supporting cast and we're treated to Ben Johnson AND Rod Taylor (going at each other like a couple of Old West biddies) and the sight of Ann Margaret in her rust colored Levis and tight button down shirt below that mane of blonde hair defies description. William Clothier's cinematography is stunningly beautiful, one of the best jobs on a Duke Wayne film, and Dominic Frontiere's score has a Elmer Bernstein/John Williams feel that is broadly heroic, evocative of time and place and stays in the head for a long time. Just an all around enjoyable film and thanks for uploading the suite and keeping the magic going for a bit longer.

    One novelty of the movie is the bad guys were never really portrayed - just a bunch of gold-seeking bandits to be blasted away.

    This is the same music as the theme to "How The West Was Won" . Has no one noticed? Why would they do that?

    • @epiyiyo
      @epiyiyo Před 8 lety +3

      Karen Wilson ...NO, it is not the same music, you listen to them again. the only thing they seem, is what we accept as western music ... they are different! ... It's like saying that the music of "Superman" and Indiana Jones "are the same music.
