- There's a piano in the international Terminal E at ATL airport, and an old local pro has the gig, he's in his 60s and he knows just about everything. One time 7 or 8 years ago when i was passing through there i heard him play You're The Only Woman, and since that day i always wanted to learn it. Ambrosia was a native L.A. band that made the long climb up through the US record industry in the 1970s, finally hitting the jackpot in the winter of '78-'79 with the Top 5 single How Much I Feel. Things got even bigger in the spring of 1980 when the band, still featuring its classic late 70s harmonic groove sound anchored by David Pack's powerful vocals, went global with You're the Biggest Part of Me, to this day their best-known song. The follow-up, You're the Only Woman, with its stealthy bassline and ominous minor chorus, turned out to be the group's last hit, as Pack departed in the early 80s to pursue other projects; he became a highly successful producer, and also notably was the musical director for both of President Clinton's inaugurations in 1992 and '96. One piece of trivia about Ambrosia that i didn't know before researching them for this cover is that the bassist Joe Puerta went on to become a founding member of Bruce Hornsby & The Range, another of my favorite bands.
