That quick throw with the reordering at the end of the first run was glorious.

he made so many baffling decision, he should have learned by now but he still somehow made a decision only eldritch god can decipher.

That seemed like the best possible order. It’s not like the extra +3/+3 on the giraffe would’ve saved him. His build was set up to counter white weenies and he fought a build that wasn’t that.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s sometimes the most headscratching player you could ever see, but that time seemed really good.
@@MawileLover I think the rhino had not enough HP for that idea. Anything above 42 attack at the front would destroy it and on round 15 it's pretty plausible. For me the rearranging was something like Tiger-Rooster-Dodo-snake-rhino, maximising the effect of the tiger and the dodo and using the snake behind the rhino.
Moving the whale to the front because of a turkey in a non-summon build instead of the monkey he held frozen for like 2-3 turns is something else.
Selling the lvl3 kangaroo caused me physical pain.

That squad setup at 25:45 is so cursed. A rooster and a horse, but no units that get summoned. A whale, except put at the front so it doesn't eat anything. This is why we watch NL

Massive Kangaroo is always better than lvl 1 turkey, and tiger with fly. You're build was on its way to 10 until the switch. It's always hard to judge whether or not you should pivot but always think about levels and how you're scaling. +6/+6 didn't really matter when you had a Kangaroo that was averaging +20/+20 at the least in battle. Good run nonetheless!
NL! Rhino is not good! It was good one time early this run when you snagged it turn 7 and it soloed a sheep build. For the rest of the game it did nothing at all except clear some unimpactful melon armors. Even the Turkey/Rooster builds clapped you with melon armor on their front liner.
Sometimes Rhino pops off and wipes a squad. But you don't get extra points for the number of your animals left alive at the end. The average case for Rhino is he is a vanilla body that trades 1-for-1 and does nothing, and you only have 4 losses to give.
The commentary for this game is hysterical, I love it

The fly play was gonna lose because if you have 3 support units, you essentially have to sac one because 2 offensive units aren't gonna do it in most cases, and then from there the synergy falls apart

NL keeps tiger and giraffe for 3x 2/2 buff per turn. Could have had a level 2 cat with tiger buffing the dodo. One pizza then gives you 2x 6/6
Also tigers effect is only in battle so it was doing literally nothing
@@brendan7030ify Actually this was recorded before the patch. Tiger was bugged and did apply to some animals outside battle as well. You can see on end of turn turkey goes from 23/23 to 25/25.
They've fixed that now

Going all in on the 20 health rhino was a choice
I am workshopping the 5-win marty theory, it goes something like this: too many early ties leads to you fighting squads that are focused on late scaling. The number of units that facilitate a good late scaling team are very few and are all tier 4 or later. If you can’t manage at least 3-4 wins before tier 5s are added to the pool you are generally doomed to fail on turn 12-15 unless you super scale in just 3 turns and get one or more 30/30+ units.
The hyper fast scaling unit I can think of is the Dragon, so yeah, you're pretty much right. If you're not already on your way to victory, you're on your way to losing.

6:17 Personally don’t think rolls are a waste, if you have 3 gold why spend it on a 1/1 apple or temporary 3/3 when the chance of getting a dodo which can level up to level 2 will give a second unit 7 attack every battle. That’s 7 apples or 4 pears to just match. When you factor in the price of rolls and a second unit as opposed to the cost of items needed to match the buff it’s definitely worth rerolling. Muffin buffs early are OP though for easy wins.
I think a lot of people were like I was where they think this game has economy and all gold rolls over to the next round.

Especially when you really need to level up your units, upgrading them usually gives much more value than 1 apple
Generally speaking, rolls have huge value early due to the experience bonus and powerful level 2 powerspikes. Not only do your units get stronger with a 1/1, but you also have a chance of leveling up, which if you time it right could nab you a kangaroo or camel or whale or turtle two turns early, which is massive. Getting to begin the scaling two turns before everyone else is often what can push you through to winning some good trades against other strong units.
This holds true pretty much until level 4, at which point the level 5 and 6 units become more niche and compliment a build rather than complete it. At that point, the shop gains a massive amount of pure delicious value with melon armor, chocolate, peppers and steaks. At the same time I feel like people undervalue cupcake. That 3/3 bonus early is often enough to clutch a win or otherwise guarantee it, and the first rule of SAP is that the longer you spend in the arena, the more chance you have of losing. so buying a cupcake to earn a cheesy win can often be the push you need to get a clutch dub. Rolling instead of buying can set up some insane plays, but food can be more reliable than digging for the one unit you desperately need.

Pilling the turtle isn’t universally worse than keeping it, but it definitely was in this run
I love NL and this series and less-than-optimal plays don't bother me 99.9% of the time, but that one made me physically cringe... The turtle was SO GOOD there :(

the playerbase is being taken hostage by the turkey play too much, it forced NL to pivot his already working build that could scale to 10win, because it scaled relatively quickly (with a tiger +giraffe) . still good plays
NL's current build wasn't working anyways. +2/2 isn't fast enough
tiger literally does nothing to the giraffe btw. Tiger only doubles effects in battle, so he was literally just wasting it.

@@ep1633 people underestimate pure stats with some not great but decent effect synergy, he was not that deep into rounds to face some absurd teams. turkey play is really not that strong, even a snake behind a beefy unit takes care of it
@@MrNjsteele I think it doubles the animals hit. It is still +1/+1, but for 4 animals ahead (instead of 2 with lvl 2).

LUL watching this man level a giraffe to level 3 just so it can add +1/+1 to a flamingo that gets eaten by a whale at the beginning of the level. THE ZANE. If he had his heart set on a level 3 giraffe then he could of moved it back behind the turkey so a unit that could feasibly fight would get a +1/+1.

Rhino is a hard counter on rooster/sheep/fly/turkey builds and that's about it.
@@Bugbite0656 I mean, it isn't. Level 2 sheep + Level 2 turkey summons a 10/10 and then your level 2 rhino's 8 damage is pretty irrelevant. It's obviously possible for the breakpoints to line up where the Rhino does great, but even against that exact build it's not that uncommon for them to go the other way and then the rhino looks a lot like "no effect".

The dodo buff both isn’t permanent and doesn’t give health. Also, there’s a cap on stats at 50/50 so you’re wasting most of the extra attack you’d get from a double dodo buff.
It always weirds me out that NL doubts the long term viability of the horse build but is terrified of the fly/turkey build, when fly/turkey is just a horse build that made it to late game

It’s not a trap, it just needs to be supported with a monkey or another buffing unit.

Yeah Rhino just isn't good unless you get crazy health scaling (which any animal can get good if they have that) or run unit turkey spam. I have only seen 1 rhino pop off and it was due to enemy turkey and and allied trex
