DeMar DeRozan became the face of mental health in the NBA a few years ago when he let the world know he dealt with depression. People are asking why he’s playing like an MVP this season and part of the reason is winning a battle with mental health. This is a look at DeMar’s road to recovery and how things have changed in recent years.

For ages now, I've been struggling with depression. To see DeMar's story and how he's coping gives me genuine hope. I have dreams of making it to the NBA but my mental health always seemed to drag me down. I'd tell myself I'd never make it those sort of things. But hearing now makes me hopeful for the future and he's a genuine role model for me. Thanks for highlighting this, Casey
Been dealing with that myself for decades, I can only suggest, enjoy the good days and think about tomorrow on the bad ones, you get through it
Life is difficult. People with mental health struggles are valuable. Don't give up. Some day your struggles can help someone else get through their tough times, like DeMar did

Same with me, it's destroyed me, I can't study for exams, wanna improve my basketball game, I bought two new balls, a tennis ball, I dribble but a thought keeps popping in my mind "I'm gonna mess up the next dribble, I can't dribble". Hard to do or accomplish something when your mind keeps thinking " I can't do this, how can I possibly do this!" 😞
In hindsight, getting traded to San Antonio may be the best thing for DeMar, both as a player and as a person. This says a lot about the Spurs as an organization.
Yea big ups to the spurs. They are as real as it gets. Not sure how they got drama with kawhi, but everyone else loves that org
As a bulls fan I have mad respect for the spurs organization being one of the most likable nba teams even tho they're opponents

I am truly happy for Derozan! I was diagnosed with autism while I was a kid, I had to overcome a lot of difficulties (depression, incapable of learning, especially English isn’t my native language).
I am glad his difficult past was over and he is in better situation and life!

I knew Derozan looked out of it in San Antonio. You can tell he's so much happier this season in Chicago. I just thought he hated playing for SA.
He’s a completely different player than he was in SA. People thought he fell off but his resurgence is so good to see

Sometimes there are no answers for all the questions we have that keeps repeating in our minds over and over. It starts as a distraction but will at some point overtake your life completely and without mercy. Some people can shut that voice up and some cannot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Clips gave him an offer but they didn't have alot of money so it wasn't very enticing to DeRozan? So really, the Clips never had a good chance to get him.

Sensitive subject, but to be clear Kawhi didn't actually watch his dad get shot. Kawhi was at a basketball game when the tragedy occurred.

This is what I like about this channel.
I don't know why but this made me emotional cause I can relate with Demar somehow.
I've wished nothing but the best for DeRozan and have been ecstatic to see what he's been doing with the Bulls. But this opened a a whole new perspective on him and I can't say enough about how much respect I have for him. Regardless of how the series with the Bucks turn out, this season was a banger for DeRozan and I'm stoked for him.

Best and most relatable video you have done, comment congrats!. Those Who have dealt with depression can only thank we were not on the spotlight, can't imagine what DeMar went through, he is the MVP already.
His history somehow got me to tears, usually it's really hard to get me to this stage.
I can't watch this without smiling. I am so happy for him, he is conquering his "inner demons" while balling out at a high level with that burden inside of him trying to beat his ass up. I won't be sad if he and his Bulls beat my East favorite (Bucks) with all the things he had been dealing with.

I have BPD since i was a kid, and i can tell you, it's NEVER gone, you will NEVER be "ok". The only way to have a better life its acceptance, when you accept you re not fine, you re not ok and you need help to go on, it's only the beggining. I took phills since y was 20, i did a lot of therapy and pshychiatric, i had 2 suicede attemps (one of wich i don't remember anything, just wake up in hospital) and here i'am. Still whit some pills but more adult, more mature, with a lovely wife and 2 cats. My only fear is having a kid with my problems, not for discriminate or whatever, just for the fact i know he/se will have a very hard life on, specially on childhood and adolescence.
And side note, some of the pills i have to take to be "stable" sometimes mess my body hard: obesity, urinary problems, etc
