Billie Piper returns in three full-cast audio dramas, set in the aftermath of the 2006 Doctor Who TV story Doomsday, as Rose continues her search for the Doctor alongside her mum Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri) and the conspiracist Clive Finch (Mark Benton).
Rose Tyler continues her mission to find the one person who can stop the stars going out and save the multiverse.
Each jump takes Rose to an Earth under threat - parallel worlds, which means other versions of friends and family too.
Time is running out, but Rose won’t stop until she finds the Doctor…
Billie Piper said: “The Dimension Cannon is such a brilliant idea and gives Rose a lot more life beyond the Doctor. But there’s also something quite sad about her search. It’s a real bitter-sweet series of tales.
“I’m delighted for the fans to receive these new adventures. It’s something they talk to me about just as much as the episodes I appeared in on TV. It seems like there’s an enormous appetite for it and it’s very moving to imagine listeners spending a few more moments with this family particularly.”
Producer Emily Cook added: “Rose was my gateway into Doctor Who, my first companion, and I adored her. I still do. So safe to say it’s an absolute joy - both on a personal and professional level - to take on producing two more volumes of The Dimension Cannon. I’m such a fan of this series.
“In addition to producing, I had the privilege of writing one of the scripts (my first for Big Finish). There’s such a responsibility when writing for Billie because she’s a phenomenal actor, particularly in terms of her ability to convey raw emotion. That’s something I really wanted to tap into with these stories.
“As with Doctor Who itself, the possibilities for The Dimension Cannon are endless. There are so many potential parallel worlds out there for us to explore and I can’t wait for fans to hear where we go next.”

Saltwater by Alison Winter
Rose finds an Earth under threat, as something steals the salt from the oceans.
As global tensions escalate, Rose wants to make those in charge listen, and finds an ally in the shape of another Clive…
Now is the New Dark by AK Benedict
On an Earth where science never advanced from the Dark Ages, Rose and Clive find themselves under suspicion.
Someone is killing the Melancholics, but apparently there’s a Doctor here who can help…
The Rogue Planet by Emily Cook
Rose finds herself closer to home than ever - but she’s in for a shock.
Meanwhile, Jackie is a hit on daytime TV and Clive is a professor, but nobody seems to realise how much danger the world is in.

@@ObviouslyKieran Most classic era human companions seemed pretty middle-class - Ian and Barbara, Victoria, Zoe, Liz, Sarah - and many of the non-human ones were aligned with upper-classes - haughty Romana, Traken noblewoman Nyssa, public schoolboy Turlough. In more recent years, Martha and Amy seemed quite middle-class.

They seem to have a lovely chemistry together - and I agree, their relatability was a key part of their success.
@HARRYRANTS again, that’s one of the points of the show: change. Doctor, companions, TARDIS, villains, locations etc. but still the same messages: kindness, exploration, mirroring real life etc.
I cannot stress this enough…

The people’s queen
It's always great to see Billie back in the role, she's grown tremendously as an actress since her regular run on the show. And it's nice that despite her career taking off she makes the time to come back, I think sometimes actors see their earlier stuff as a mere jumping off point and once they move on there's no looking back.
I really liked her as The Moment in Day of the Doctor. Easily her best onscreen Doctor Who performance and drastically different from Rose, which shows that Billie is more versatile than people give her credit for. If you can hold your own while John Hurt is onscreen, you're doing something right.

'Apart from perhaps Ace' Camille really knows her stuff! You've got to love that. She's right. Ace was in many ways the prototype for Rose; an attempt at a working class character but still very much through a middle class lense, no working class girl would talk the way Ace does but it was a very noble effort for its time. There would have been no Rose without Ace.

I had a crush on Billie Piper as Rose. Rose was one of the top 5 companions of the series. It was a sad day when she departed the series.

RTD has the ability to write parts that are soooo real. You know these people. It’s Britain, real Britain. Not polished, posh, downtown abbey Britain. RTD has authenticity and knows how to pick actors to pull that off. Phenomenal actors that really launched the show, family first and the Doctor second. Before jelling until they’re just as important as each other. Doctor and companion.
Downton Abbey was not well-written. Compare to the original Upstairs Downstairs series from the 1970s that showed the real working class servants of the 1900s-20s.

@James K i think it could. chris talked so positively about billie in his autobiography and has said his doctor could only travel with rose. they took photos together with fans at a recent con, too. they both enjoy big finish so it’s a real possibility

Although I'm personally always less invested in returning Doctors than returning companions, which I think are much more interesting ideas. Absolutely cannot wait for the return of Ace (and Tegan... I guess) tomorrow!
Love how special a show is dr who and Rose was and still is my fav companion she was independent and funny and had great chemistry with 9 and 10 doctors
Oh, I completely agree! The Tyler's are still so well loved because they were simply soo RELATABLE! Brilliantly written!
They may be relatable to some people (I personally can't relate, but love them anyway), but that doesn't explain why they're so loved by everyone, especially now when we've had more working class, down to earth companions.
I think the reason is just that they are so well written and portrayed by very talented actresses and I love that that didn't seem to have crossed either of their minds.
I miss the Tylers so much. The conversations the characters had felt genuine and real :(

With the idea of hopping about in parallel realities, I'm honestly hoping that Rose may end up running into one of the Unbound Doctors/Masters (like I'd love to see her go up against Gatiss' Master).

@@just_joe9819 If they were going to do the Unbound Doctor thing, I can kinda see why that would take a while - a lot of them have passed away (liked Warner recently) and Warner was ill for a while before he passed too.
Now I'm just imagining Rose meeting up with the Warner Unbound Doctor and Benny, and I'm so sad we'll never get that.

What we love about Rose and Jackie is how they elevated their status from being with the doctor. He didn’t do it to them, they did it by themselves. yet didn’t forget where they came from! And we know they love each other, warts and all.

Billie Piper is such a talented actress. Her acting is just phenomenal. She has this old quality to her but a modern face.
I loved the Sally Lockhart books and Billie was perfectly cast. Sally was a modern woman in Victorian London and Billie played it beautifully.
Absolutely loved her in Penny Dreadful. She sounded so much as Nadine from Girls Aloud as Brona but when she came back as Lily what a complete 180 on the character. Very beautiful and enchanting but so dangerous at the same time.
I’m new to Doctor Who I just finished season 2 3 days ago and my favorite Companion definitely is Rose!🙌🏽I love the way Billie Piper plays Rose the character is just so relatable on how everyone seeks an adventure in their life. That’s the point of living. And you felt that through her character on top of the family dynamic. I cried in season 2 episode 13. Titled The Doomsday. It was just so sad.😭I hope to meet Billie and Camille one day!🤙🏽

Elisabeth, Janet, Billie, Alex and Jenna hold a special place in Doctor Who. Their characters have been companions alongside at least three Doctors over the years. Katy, Elisabeth, Janet and Sophie have made their marks in both the Classic era and the Modern era of the program. These ladies are all Doctor Who Royalty.
Camille is stunning and billie is flawless!!! What a pair they are, what amazing casting genius skills it was combining those two!

I will forever like the Tyler's because they were my childhood getting into Doctor Who as a young kid. I absolutely LOVED Christopher and Billie running around and going on adventures. And when David came on and played alongside Billie, the harmony between them was electric. And all of you are such god damn lovely people. You're not only down to earth as the Doctor, Jackie, and Rose. But also as genuine actors/actresses. And that's what made me fall in love with Doctor Who from then on.

They were my favourite characters for that era cuz they always felt incredibly grounded in reality and their time in history. I’ve always wanted to see a return of an older rose

They're right about their characters being relatable. Five year old me has such great memories of watching the new series when it started. The previous set was hauntingly faithful to the feel of the era too so I'm gonna have to pick this one up and burn through them all with the BF one evening.

Rose and Jackie had no expectations of life, therefore totally believable.
I wouldn't say council estate flats is middle class.. Bit of a modest comment. The working class vibe is one of the elements that made the show great, I defiantly related to that part of the show growing up so it's not a bad thing to say.

I'm sure they could bring back David Tennant to return to the meta crisis half human doctor living with Rose in the alternate dimension earth! There has to be some stories there. And we should remember the Jacqui Tyler from the first series died by being converted to a cyberman and this is the alternate earth version of her.
