  • Want to build control and balance on snow?
"When you're on the mountain you shouldn't skip arm day!"
Get your arms under control and improve your balance on skis with Janus Hecht from:
    ‪@InspirationalSkiing‬
Whether you are a strong skier, or an intermediate learning, we've got 3 ski drills that will level up your ski technique.
If you're a Carv skier, check this out if you're seeing lower balance scores.
You may be surprised that your arms might hold the key. We'll have you holding your shoulders, and skiing with your poles in strange positions in no time... you might look weird for a few runs, but once you've done it in the words of Janus, "you'll be turning heads for all the right reasons."
We hope that you enjoy the video and it helps you take your skiing technique to the next level.
Where did you get the data in the video?
We often get asked to show how Carv's technology works in practice. In this tutorial, Janus is using Carv's Digital Ski Coach in his boot to give a real-time feed of his balance on every turn.
Carv is an ultra-thin sensor that fits in any ski boot. Janus is using the Monitor Mode here to analyse his pressure and motion live in the Carv app - so he can get objective data to dial in his balance. We've pulled the app screen out in the video for you.

"I improved my Ski IQ by around 10 points but far more importantly the knowledge of what I actually need to improve on in real time (for me, Balance most of all) was amazing." - Carv customer

Amazing how you ski with you feet sooooo close together, sit on the back of the skis and lift your inside ski. I’ve learnt so much from your demos

Janus, I have seen quite a few training videos - from Carv and elsewhere - and THIS one from you I think will help me the most. My skiing has improved a lot (partly due to the CARV system) but my wife tells me that I'm still rotating my upper body too much. An unfortunate bit of hangover from my beginner days. These tips and exercises of yours look like JUST what I need to focus on for improvement in this area. Many Thanks!

I find skiing on one foot and turning in both directions helps get me tuned in. I also keep my spine plumb with the plane of the slope. Hips over ankles. Knee angulation and weighting turns the ski, body stays quiet.

Does Carv monitor any higher drills such as Garlands, Schlopy Drill, Uphill Ski Garlands, and One-Ski skiing? The drills you showed are awfully low level. One ski skiing variants especially would be useful.

How far are you suppose to look ahead? Great tips, thank you.

    • @InspirationalSkiing

      You are welcome, Coffee Cake.
I would say it varies depending on the snow conditions, terrain and visibility, but in general you don't want to look down on your ski tips. 20-30 meters could be good while skiing. It will help your posture and overall stance (and hence balance) to look a bit ahead.
When you are searching for the right hand position in a stationary situation find something in the distance when looking straight ahead. Once you have that awareness you can implement it while skiing, so you always have your hands within (peripheral) sight.
      I hope this helps.

What kind of ideal balance is the 45-60 range supposed to represent? Having the front/back of the ski completely evenly weighed or being slightly forward weighted?

    • @CarvSki
      @CarvSki  Před rokem +2

Hi Ethan, 45-60 means the balance is neutral in an athletic stance (as in center of pressure is 45-60% along the length of the foot). As the turn starts, moving slightly forward is ideal, but as the turn passes the apex, moving slightly backward can help - that's why we give a range here. The ideal movement is very subtle in practice.

For me it's all about the falling over. If you are falling backwards up the hill you are being too timid, and pretty soon your thigh muscles will start hurting. Every fall must be face first down the hill.

You're overcomplicating things. There are 3 very simple steps to improve your posture.
    1. Use your pole to pivot the turn.
    2. Make sure your elbows are never behind your shoulders.
    3. Don't stress about it.
It's really not that complicated, and beyond this the tricks are still not hard to learn.

No mate, he did an excellent job showing drills to develop good technique.
I’m sure you are an incredible skier and your technique is perfect but a teacher you are not. That’s obvious from your simplistic approach to coaching.
      Enjoy your skiing.
