Some digital piano brands mention the hammer action type as Graded Hammer Action (GHA),some mention Progressive Hammer Action (PHA) while some use Scaled Hammer Action. Are these terms synonymous or is there any difference between these hammer action types ? Which type of hammer action is closest to that of acoustic piano ?

Pretty well said their. I am a working pianist. I have to say though that not all digital pianos have a stand. Some of the pianos have cabinets. Then the portable digital pianos have more of the stand like frame that you can mount to them. Some digitals even have that metal brace stand. It all depends on what the person has. I saw a home set up where the person actually had a digital piano like it was a keyboard. It only had one pedal and it was on a metal x frame. The other thing is is that a synthesizer with some exceptions does not at all have a full 88 key hammer action. The synth actually goes as far as having 76 keys and semi weighted. But yes. I will give you this. Now keyboards are defiantly more portable than anything. A digital piano though is made to look more like its cousin the acoustic piano. Like you said. 3 pedals. And tipically a wood frame or cabinetry. I do frown on one thing though and it is not anything that you said in this video. A lot of beginners do however try, and learn on a digital piano. Well, as a pianist who does play both and keyboards and synths for a beginner if they possibly can, it is so much better for someone really starting out to learn on an acoustic if possible. Well, digitals do have software but this is not the point. The point is is that as I say to many people if you want to fly a plane,,,, learn to drive a car first. I always give this example. Why because take a look at this. The car is streight forward and will bee pretty simple to operate. Well, the acoustic piano is like the car. No buttons or anything on it. It is just the piano. You can easily focus your attention to playing the piano. A beginner should not even worry about playing a digital piano because this is a totally different beast. It is so much better to learn to play a piano first and then if you get good enough that you are understanding your techniques then the exciting stuff comes. The thing with a digital piano is is that you are not only thinking about piano parts, and playing the piano but,,,,, you have to think about emulating different instruments. Where as an acoustic piano is not going to do that. Plus the action is the original piano action. When you start learning a digital piano, you must have the concept of what it is like to play piano, because the digital piano is a totally different beast. Yea. You play it like an acoustic piano but then their is so much more on it. So I know that digital piano is less expensive than an acoustic piano but for beginners I would say learn to play the piano first. Then go to a digital piano. Now yes. They are affordable compared to an acoustic piano, but the thing is when people that don’t even know how to play the piano do get a digital piano they are then seriously overwhelmed. They may play around with the sounds and patches because it is something to mess with. Then they may not even go to play the piano after a while. This creates a problem. So to beginners you have to learn the basics before going up the ladder. Once you have the understanding of how to play a piano, then if you want to go on a digital piano it will make so much more sense to you. The acoustic piano as well will get you prepared to play on a digital. Some people think the other way around. They say a digital piano will help them get use to an acoustic but this is false. Number 1. You are never going to see a digital piano in a very classily classic concert hall. You will bee playing on either very nice upwrite or baby grands or 9 foot concert grands. You are not going to see a digital piano in a concert hall. This is the other thing. The acoustic piano is going to give you that othentic piano touch. Like I stated. Before you can even consider flying an airplane you have to have the skills of driving I would hope first. Well, the same thing with a piano. It does not make any sense what so ever for someone to learn on a digital piano, and say I want to prepare so I can get use tot the acoustic piano. It is actually the other way around. Get use to the acoustic piano first and then you can get on a digital piano. An acoustic piano is all a beginner needs. Once you get to digitals and synths, you are talking about music production their. A beginner should not even think about this. Learn your scales, triads and chords first. Technique pedaling posture hand position and time. You have to learn a lot before deciding to jump up to the sky here. Take it slow. The digital piano will come but people you got to bee patient and learn from the ground up. That is how it works. It is not always fun but you know life isn’t always fun starting out learning a skill. It doesn’t make sense at all for someone to start from the top and make their way down. It goes from the ground up. Let me put it this wya. When you build a house you are not going to just slap the roof on and then work on the foundation right???? Well, it is the same thing when playing a piano. You do not put the roof on before you lay the foundation. Well, it is the same thing. You do not start out on a digital piano producing music with that or synth when you have not a clue even how to sit at the piano. You must,,,,,, work your way from the ground up. I guarantee that this will make a whole lot of sense to you. I have been playing the piano sense I was 2 and was raised up in a musician family. All the pianos I played during that time were pure acoustic pianos. I worked my way up to ladder to get to the digital piano that came later on. But i wanted to really master the acoustic piano before everything else. I spent many years perfecting on an acoustic piano. Then,,,,,,, as time grew on,,,, I got to experience what it was like to play a digital piano. The other thing is the action is a compleetly different way of playing than the acoustic piano’s action. They do not feel the same at all. Even in the pedals. The acoustic piano action and digital pianos action is a compleetly different ball park. They do not feel the same at all. It feels totally different. Even as a professional and working pianist that i am. I go to work and play on baby grands and then i come home to play the digital and the feeling is compleetly different. So for those beginners, yes. Please learn the piano first before getting on a digital. You will bee so much better off. Once you have learned and skillfully can play an acoustic piano well, then it will bee time to play a digital. But slow down and back up.... you don’t have to hurry with this. Lay down the foundation for the house before you put the house up. It just makes sense this way. It does take a while to get good enough to understand what you are doing with the basics of piano but not everything is going to bee fast and right this minute. Sometimes, in order to get to the great things you need to go through the boring things first. It is like this...... when we are talking about food I mean you are hopefully going to eat your dinner first before the sweets right???? Well, on some occasions you will have desert first but we are not talking about that. You got to eat your dinner and veggies first before the sweet stuff. Not everyone loves veggies but that is the fact of life. You want to get to the good stuff well, sometimes we have to do what we don’t want to do in order to get their. Same thing. Dinner always with some exceptions always is eaten before desert. You got to eat the healthy food before getting into the chocolate cake lol!!!!!!!!! I hope that this helps.

Oooooh, how negative about midi keyboards. Remember that you can connect it with your computer even your phone and play ALL kind of instruments and ALL kind of pianos. Felt piano? with a laptop this is no problem. Many people sampled their pianos. I believe that keyboards are obsolete, why buy one when the sounds you get using your computer even your phone are so much better. And the downside of a real piano that it is expensive and you get just one piano. A midi keyboard is cheap, portable and infinitely versatile. So my advice:: get a midi controller!
