    For the technical people: By average person I was implying anyone that considers themself a runner. This is the average time for male and female. In the past like around 1986 or so the average time was around 3:55 ish becuase back then there weren't as many people running marathons just to complete them or recreationaly. Also, the 0.01% doesn't necessarily make sense but it's what most cites/people say so idk

    correction: the average person cannot run a marathon

    • @Chew81
      @Chew81 Před 2 měsíci +20

      Wrong. The average person will not run a marathon because most of us feel that it is beyond us.
      But the average person CAN finish a marathon. Marathon finishers come in all shapes and sizes, from the skinny and the chubby to the fit and the hulking bodybuilder, and even to those who have overweight and obesity problems.

      I think he said an average runner, not an average person. Any random average person will not likely finished at 4hr and 30m.

    Great video, appreciate your story telling and you explaining your fitness background (awesome to frame it, too many other people come off like they do couch-to-marathon which is not fair or relatable!) this running thing is hard and you do hard things (with a kickass time to boot!). Keep up the great running and videos….you’ve got a little fan in your family that’ll be taking notes of their dad (& mom!) as two great role models. Cheers!

    We're on very similar journeys. Started back up in 2020 myself, ran when I was 18-22 in the Army (2005-2009) but quit because Army running. I remember my first 5 mile run in 2020 struggling to hold a 12 minute mile pace. First marathon was a trail marathon 2022, ran a road marathon 2023 (had 5k and 10k the day before, finished 4:40), and now I have 2 marathons coming up, one in 2 weeks.
    Meanwhile i just finished my 20 miler before the marathon, almost identical elevation gain at a 9:40 moving pace lol. So yeah, I'm trying to break 4:22 myself which is the 10 minute mile pace requirement.

    • @RellyMoorer
      @RellyMoorer  Před 2 měsíci

      I've found that consistency is what helped me the most. Obviously the training plans and learning about nutrition have helped, but being consistent about running and trying to get better have helped me

    • @jaysingh05
      @jaysingh05 Před 2 měsíci

      Yes for sure! Keeping track of weekly mileage and stuff. Getting your quality (threshold/VO2 max etc) sessions in, hopefully twice a week. It’s just harder to do everything - even 40 mi weeks, one long run, and just one good speed session - when you’re above 40 haha. But the sky’s limit, age is just a number,- and our generations (yours and mine) - are starting to push some crazy boundaries with what all is possible, with the mind and body (AND spirit as you said in the video). Keep it up! I’ll subscribe to see where your journey takes you.

    nice vlog, this 4:30 average time includes women and old folks right ? why would you measure against them? I believe its around 3:30 for a 35 yo male and you look like you can do much better than that, keep up the good work, man

    • @RellyMoorer
      @RellyMoorer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It does include both. I checked Brooks’ website and it said the average male time is 4:21. BUT the average time for both in 1986 was 3:52. The average keeps getting longer because more and more people have been doing marathons. Interesting.
      My next goal is 3:45 then I’ll go from there lol

    The average marathon runner cannot finish a marathon if you ask them to run TODAY.

      Well yeah…people gotta train for it lol. I couldn’t right now either. My next marathon isn’t until November though 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Think the average time is slower then for example 30 years ago. People used to train for a marathon. Nowadays just finishing is good enough. In my opinion evey time above 4 hours us really bad because then you have not trained and is really bad for your body. Recovery afterwards for a more trained athlete is a lot better. When is it even running and when does it become walking.

    • @RellyMoorer
      @RellyMoorer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I agree and disagree…respectfully of course. Back in the day the only people that trained for marathons were most likely athletes and now it’s done more recreationally.
      From an athletes mind (especially elite or competitive) yeah 4hrs and longer is not good but now a days I feel like even for the “I stay in shape recreationally” type of people, even with a training plan, 4:30 isn’t that bad.
      Personally I understand what you mean because I’d love to qualify for Boston one day but I also am on the side of if you can finish that’s awesome! If you beat your goal(s) awesome! Or if you tried and failed that’s awesome! You at least tried. I wish everyone could try to better than their previous time
      But this is just my opinion

    Only 1% of All female marathon runners in the whole world and 4% of all male marathon runners in the world can run a marathon under 3hrs !!!

  • @Asif24960

    Less than 1% of people can run a marathon in the world. The average you are referring to is the average of the 1%
